Fan Focus: Justin – November 29, 2002

JUSTIN
Age 14, Pennsylvania, USA

I am one of the most devoted Harry Potter fans in my area. I was at the premier of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and saw The Sorceror’s Stone movie on opening weekend. I own all of the HP books, and am currently reading the series for the 4th time (I’m on the 3rd to last chapter on Goblet of Fire). I own The Sorceror’s Stone on DVD, and plan to pre-order Chamber of Secrets as soon as I can. I also love to play the Sorceror’s Stone computer game as much as I can.

Note from Emerson: Instead of submitting himself (because he is quite obviously a big HP fan) Justin took the time to submit a detailed application for his friend Eric, who was the fan of the week 2 weeks ago. I thought that was a very honorable thing to do, so I asked him if he would like to be this week’s Potter Profile. Naturally, he jumped at the chance, but he never once mentioned anything about himself possibly being the fan of the week.

MuggleNet (Emerson): How and when did you get in to Harry Potter?

I first got into Harry Potter around March, 1999. I heard about it from some friends and decided to read the first book to see what it was like. I bought the book, and immediately fell in love with it. As soon as I finished reading the Sorceror’s Stone, I bought and read the other three books instantly. I loved all of these books, and have been reading them as much as I can since.

Which Harry Potter book is your favorite?

My favorite Harry Potter book is the Prisoner of Azkaban. I like this book because as a reader I’m thinking that Sirius Black is as guilty as a man can be. Then in the end Jo proves me all wrong. She really does a nice job at doing this throughout the book (Flight of the Fat Lady chapter). I also like this book because of the maturity level of Harry, Ron, and Hermoine. They all do things you wouldn’t expect them to do in CoS and SS. I also like Professor Lupin the best out of the entire Defense against the Dark Arts teachers so far. He is the best in my opinion because of his kindness. Quirrel is definitely out of the question, and Lockhart is to ignorant to be any where near my favorite. I didn’t include Moody in this because I have only met Barty Crouch and know nothing about the real Alastor Moody.

What character can you relate to most?

I think that character would have to be Seamus Finnagan. Seamus is a boy who isn’t the main character, but he can be really funny, and provide us all with a good laugh.

What do you think of the inevitable boy/girl stuff coming in Book 5?

I think that there will definitely be some boy/girl stuff coming in the Order of the Phoenix, because there has been no big showing of this so far. So far there has been no big relationships mentioned in the book, so there is bound to be some coming soon. We all know Harry likes Cho, but so far she hasn’t showed any real affection in return. Ron has always been shunned to the side, and I think this will be no exception. Harry will get the girl while Ron gets a less beautiful one.

Who do you think Harry will “hook up” with in Book 5? What about Ron?

I think that Harry will hook up with Cho in book five. She has always been nice to him, but never enough to carry on with a relationship. I think that now that Cedric is dead, Cho will be free to anyone she picks, in my opinion, that will be Harry. Ron on the other hand will probably get together with Hermoine. Even though they have always acted mad at each other, they have always had some sort of connection.

What character do you think will die in Book 5?

I think that Hagrid will die in Book 5 for a couple of reasons. First, I think that it definitely won’t be Colin, because it would be too obvious, and Hagrid is the only other big FAN of Harry’s. Second, in an interview with the man who plays Hagrid, he was asked if he was signed through all seven movies, and he replied, “sort of,” whereas Richard Harris said he had been signed up for all 7. “Sort of” to me means not all the way, and Book 5 is definitely not the end.

Which school house would you want to be in? Do you think the Sorting Hat would place you in that house?

If I could be chosen to be in any one of the four Hogwarts houses, I would chose to be in Gryffindor. I chose this because Slytherin is out of the question, and Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff aren’t that important to the book besides the storyline. I DO think that the sorting hat would place me in Gryffindor because I am similar to Harry in many ways, and he was placed in Gryffindor.

Do you have any interesting HP stories to share?

Yes. This story took place very recently at the CoS premier. My one friend and I had just got done watching the movie and decided to stay to the end (past all of the credits) just to say that we say the whole movie. We watched the very beginning of the credits, and decided to consider whether or not to actually stay the whole time. Before we had time to decide, we were being shoved out of the theater by the mad rush of people making their way toward the exits. I later found out that there was an extra scene after the credits, and regretted my hesitation.

Do you have anything else you’d like to add? Maybe a theory you’ve concocted, a shout-out, praise for yours truly?

Yes, I would like to shout-out to a few of my friends. First, I would like to thank you to my friend Emerson for giving me the chance to be a Potter Profile for the week. Second, I would like to say thanks to my best friend Eric for being with me at all the big HP moments. THANK YOU!
