UPDATE: The person who reported this news on Film Score Monthly is citing “a very reliable source”. We're continuing our attempt to confirm!

Fans have long waited to hear who will be composing the score for the final two Harry Potter films. This morning, there is a chance the composer for Part 1 has surfaced.

Film Score Monthy's “2009 Top Forty Composer Countdown” notes that Alexandre Desplat, who has composed such recent films as The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Julie & Julia, The Golden Compass, and The Twilight Saga: New Moon, will be composing Deathly Hallows, Part 1.

The article notes at the end of his profile: “[Alexandre Desplat] has signed for one his most challenging and highest-profile assignments yet, the penultimate entry in the Harry Potter saga.”

Film Score Monthly does not note where they found this information. We've had e-mails into Mr. Desplat's agents as well as the owners of Film Score Monthly since last night to receive confirmation. So far, no word. We'll keep you updated!
