Review: Starkid Productions’ “Starship” blasts off in Chicago

Friday evening, Team Starkid (of “A Very Potter Musical” and “A Very Potter Sequel” internet fame) premiered their fourth musical, titled “Starship” to a lively crowd in Chicago, IL. The musical, scheduled to run from February 11th-23rd, features many returning actors from previous StarKid ensemble productions and boasts music and lyrics written by the now-celebrity Darren Criss (from FOX’s hit TV show, “Glee.”)

Chicago is the new home for StarKid Productions, which includes many former students from the University of Michigan. The play, which runs approximately 3 hours, takes place on an alien planet where a lone insect named Bug wishes to escape the pre-determined life of his hive and explore the universe. His chance arrives when a starship lands on his planet, but confrontations with the human race on board the starship lead both races (insects and humans) to question their humanity.
