“Deathly Hallows – Part 2” holding strong at foreign box office, on pace to challenge “Return of the King”

UPDATE: Deathly Hallows – Part 2 has now passed Chamber of Secrets, and now stands at No. 22 all-time with $882 million. It is poised to cross the $900 million mark today.

Deathly Hallows – Part 2 continues to remain no. 1 around the world despite its fall to Captain America here in the United States over the weekend.

It pulled in $13.7 million in the United Kingdom, $13.7 million in Germany, $12.1 million in France, $8.5 million in Japan, and $8.4 million in Australia.

According to BoxOfficeMojo.com:

“It reached the $700 million mark in its tenth day in theaters and passed $800 million on its 12th day, both of which obliterated the previous speed records held by ‘On Stranger Tides’ (16 days to $700 million) and ‘Avatar’ (19 days to $800 million).”

With the film still to hit theaters in China on August 4, Part 2 is on pace to challenge for the no. 3 spot all-time, currently held by The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King with $1.12 billion.

Deathly Hallows – Part 2 has currently made $846.9 million worldwide.
