“Harry Potter” passes “Star Wars,” becomes highest-grossing film franchise of all time

Harry Potter now stands alone as the highest-grossing film franchise of all time. The eight films have made $2.223 billion, surpassing Star Wars’s $2.218 billion.

Deathly Hallows – Part 2 pulled in $12.27 million Wednesday here in the United States, making it the 13th highest-grossing non-opening Wednesday ever.

With $214.88 million, it is slotted third among the top-grossing six-day openings, trailing only The Dark Knight and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Through Tuesday’s sales, the film has made $604.9 million worldwide.
