Emma Watson co-stars in Marilyn Monroe biopic, screened tonight in Illinois

Tonight I happened upon a test screening of “My Week with Marilyn,” the next film to star Harry Potter lead actress Emma Watson. The film, though still “incomplete” at this stage, was very enjoyable, and also starred Kenneth Branagh (Gilderoy Lockhart in Chamber of Secrets). Toby Jones, who voices Dobby in the Potter films, also has a role.

Set in 1956, the film is about Marilyn Monroe (portrayed by Michelle Williams) and her trip to England to film “The Prince and the Showgirl” with Laurence Olivier (played by Branagh). Emma plays Lucy, a wardrobe assistant on the film who is a romantic interest for the male lead Colin (Eddie Redmayne), an assistant on the whole production who writes the memoir on which the film is based.

“My Week with Marilyn” is scheduled for release on November 4th, and was an excellent insight into Olivier, Monroe and the world in which they lived. It is directed by Simon Curtis, who also directed the version of “David Copperfield” that starred Daniel Radcliffe, before he was Harry.
