Is there more than meets the eye between Neville and Snape?
No – not another shipping essay – but the author of our next quibble of the week (marauders-legacy) analyzes the relationship between young Neville and the disgruntled Potions Master and remarks a surprising discovery:
“My sister pointed out to me that his singling out of Neville for bullying is because of Neville’s connection to the prophecy…”
Considering what we learned in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince it’s easy to see why Snape had nearly as much immediate contempt for Neville as for Harry when they first came to Hogwarts – if Neville had been the chosen target of the dark lord, Lily would have likely survived.
To make things even more problematic for Snape, marauders-legacy muses that there are many similarities between the two characters, such that it would seem they have nearly led “parallel lives.” Among these connections the quibble author reminds us Snape and Neville both had difficult childhoods with absent parents, were both social outcasts of their respective houses, and in later years they both became teachers at Hogwarts.
What do you think of mauraders-legacy’s many connections between this unlikely symbolic pair? With the newest update to our MuggleNet Quibbler, you can now post comments on all your favorite fan-essays (including this one) in the section itself!
