Which “Potter” star should be the 12th Doctor?

Doctor Who, for those of you that have been living under a rock, premiered in 1963 and was rebooted in 2005. The Doctor, most recently played by David Tennant (Barty Crouch, Jr.) & Matt Smith, travels through space and time in his TARDIS (Time and Relative Dimension in Space), aiding fellow aliens and humans alike.

Recently, fans from all over the world learned that Matt Smith, the beloved 11th Doctor, has decided to regenerate (leave the show) this coming Christmas. So who should replace him? According to one UK Bookmaker, Rupert Grint.

We at MuggleNet had quite a chat about this article – and most of us disagree. While Rupert is a ginger (something The Doctor has never been, much to fans’ dismay), this staffer thinks that he lacks the energy, quirk (ice cream truck aside), and bravado that being The Doctor requires. So which Potter star do we think should be the 12th Doctor?

Keith: If there was any Potter actor destined to be cast as the next Doctor, it would have to be Dan Radcliffe. For starters, he is the only one of the bunch that could carry the weight on his shoulders from the millions of Doctor Who fans. Secondly, he is by far the most multi-talented actor of his generation, who has been trained by the best England has to offer. He grew up around so much talent, and he soaked it all in, which is clearly evident from his wide range of parts since Potter. Dan’s fast tongue and always hyper demeanor actually reminds me a bit of Matt Smith’s Doctor.

Kat: I know that most fans would say Dan, or Matt, or Tom, but I’m going to go out in left field for my pick: Alfie Enoch. Despite the fact that it’s due time we had a black Doctor, I truly think that Alfie has that “something special” that would make him an incredible Doctor. Like Matt Smith, Alfie doesn’t have a ton of prior acting experience, thus, no bad habits. I also believe that his energy level, kind hearted nature (and laugh), plus his unique style would make him a great choice for the 12th Doctor.

Terrance: Even though I’ve never seen the show, I would love for the 12th Doctor to be Matthew Lewis. It would be interesting to see him take on a well established character in a series and put his own twist on it. We haven’t seen Matt in too many things since his stint in Potter, but I think it would be a wonderful chance for him to break out of his Neville typecast, and flex his acting muscle. Besides, I think most of our female fans would agree, the Doctor needs sex appeal and Matt definitely has it!
