Announced this week, DirecTV is airing CBGB from September 5 to October 2, prior to the theatrical release slated for October 11.
CBGB is a New York club that became the premiere stage for bands like Green Day, Tool, The Ramones, and many more from 1973 to 2006. As reported last year, Alan Rickman will be portraying the club owner, Hilly Kristal, on which the film is based while Rupert Grint will be playing Cheetah Chrome, the guitarist for The Dead Boys.
Barry Gordon from XLrator Media, the American distributor for the film, is excited to bring this opportunity to DirecTV customers.
CBGB will have access to an enormous national platform coupled with massive marketing and promotional support, and consumers will have an opportunity to see a great movie before it hits theaters.
