Killing the Dark Lord

Dear Professor Snape,

As a former death eater, I have always been curious as to how you managed to keep from killing The Dark Lord yourself? It must have been the horridly torturous to be so very close to him knowing he killed Lilly.

Dear Residing in Slytherin,

I cannot begin to describe the gut wrenching torture I endured to be in his presence. Nor can I detail the amount of constraint and reserve it takes to completely eliminate those thoughts from ones mind.

I managed because it had to be done. I promised Professor Dumbledore that I would keep Lily’s son safe and I did so. A prophecy had to be fulfilled. It was not my place to kill him.
