J.K. Rowling gifts Dobby statue to Marcliffe Hotel in Scotland!

The Marcliffe Hotel in Aberdeen has received a very special gift from J.K. Rowling herself – a Dobby statue used in the making of the Harry Potter films, along with a placard signed by the author! Jo was a guest of the hotel for several months while her father-in-law was treated in the city’s hospital and wanted to show her gratitude for the staff’s excellent service.

The owner of the hotel, Stewart Spence, said that the statue arrived unexpectedly, accompanied by a letter from Rowling explaining that she wanted to give the character a new home. Although the hotel is due to close in November 2014 – the owner is retiring, and the building will be turned into offices – Dobby will then move to Aberdeen’s Tivoli Theatre, where Spence is a member of the board.

If you live nearby, it might be worth stopping by to check out this amazing gift! You can check out the original articles here and here.

I've been making magic at MuggleNet since 2012, when I first joined the staff as a News intern. I've never wavered from the declaration in my childhood journal, circa October 2000: "I LOVE Harry Potter! If I clean my room, my mom says she'll make me a dinner a wizard would love!" Proud Gryffindor; don't hate.
