Dear Professor Lupin,

Who would be your favorite student apart from Harry Potter?

Sincerely,

Harry Potter’s Grandson

Dear writer,

A good teacher will see and appreciate each student for their unique selves. Part of teaching young people is helping the students to recognize the potential they have within, so that they may grow and prosper. A teacher who picks a favorite may be drawing the focus of their efforts too tightly, leaving the rest of their students to suffer.

Harry and I shared a special bond due to my closeness with his father when I myself was a student. However, if you will recall, many of his classmates in my (admittedly brief) Defense Against the Dark Arts classes grew considerably in their skills by the end of term. We all had a lot of fun together, and I think back on those times in Harry’s third year at Hogwarts with the utmost fondness.

Sincerely,
Remus Lupin.
