J.K. Rowling one of the most read authors in UK schools

It comes as no surprise that J.K. Rowling made the list of most popular authors among children in the UK. The sixth annual “What Kids Are Reading” report, published by Renaissance Learning, placed J.K. Rowling tied for seventh most read among all children between Grades 1-11. She is down from fifth place since last year.

Other authors on the list include Jeff Kinney (1st), Roald Dahl (2nd), Suzanne Collins (6th), and newcomer to the list David Walliams (5th).

The same research group released findings earlier this year showing that six of the seven Harry Potter books ranked as favorites among UK children.

The report goes on to analyze other aspects of children’s reading habits, such as the difficulty level of books read, which for secondary school students is falling below the expected reading level. Click here to check out the full report and see the full top 10 list.

What do you think of the list? Will J.K. Rowling continue to be one of the most read authors among children for years to come?

I have been a fan of Harry since 2000, a fan of MuggleNet since 2005, and a MuggleNet team member since 2013. I believe in the power of stories to bring people together, and nothing does that quite like Harry Potter. I live in Toronto, Canada.
