Sir Kenneth Branagh’s “Cinderella” starring Helena Bonham Carter, gets sneak peak at CinemaCon

Disney released a sneak peak this week at CinemaCon of its upcoming live action remake of Cinderella. The film is directed by Harry Potter alumnus Sir Kenneth Branagh and stars fellow alumna Helena Bonham Carter as the Fairy Godmother. The star-studded cast also includes Cate Blanchett as the Evil Stepmother, Richard Madden (Game of Thrones) as Prince Charming, and Lily James (Downton Abbey) as Cinderella.

While the storyline reportedly sticks close to the original animated film, there are some additional scenes such as an interaction between Cinderella and her mother before the mother’s death and a pre-ball meeting between Cinderella and Prince Charming.

The wardrobe also takes inspiration from the original film. From Yahoo! Movies:

Blanchett’s Lady Tremaine/Evil Stepmother wears huge ornate hats, brightly colored silks and immaculately tailored dresses – a stark contrast to Bonham Carter, who first appears as an elderly woman Cinderella sees as a beggar. The transformation from tattered, drapey rags into a beautiful, shiny fairy-like princess dress is a treat. And let’s not forget James’s Cinderella… The ball gown is clearly inspired by the classic film but in a more deep blue color with embroidered or beaded accents around the top.”

Cinderella will be released March 13, 2015, in the US and April 3, 2015, in the UK. Are you looking forward to this fairy tale remake?
