Dragon Con recap: Evanna Lynch and Scarlett Byrne talk their favorite “Potter” ships and who streaked through the Great Hall

As we previously reported, this past weekend both Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) and Scarlett Byrne (Pansy Parkinson) attended Dragon Con 2014. Dragon Con has been taking place over Labor Day weekend in Atlanta since 1987. The event is “the largest multi-media, popular culture convention focusing on science fiction & fantasy, gaming, comics, literature, art, music, and film in the universe!”

MuggleNet was thrilled to be able to attend Dragon Con this year and check out two amazing Potter alumni. Evanna and Scarlett hosted three panels at the con, one each on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Unfortunately, all three panels were part of Dragon Con’s Young Adult Literature Track, which does not allow guests to take video of the panels. However, we are including some of our favorite questions and answers from the panels.

Both actresses were asked about their upcoming projects. Scarlett, of course, plays human/alien hybrid Lexi Mason on Falling Skies. Because of her character’s hybrid nature, Scarlett says that “[s]he has awesome powers.” Evanna couldn’t reveal too much about her new movie role, although she did give some clues. She said that “the script is amazing.” She also confesses that she had to learn to swim for the role, although she “hates” water. She also talked about her ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, stating that the director of the film has ALS and is “really inspiring.”

One of the first questions from the Saturday panel was about practical jokes on set. Both Evanna and Scarlett confessed that they were too well behaved to partake in practical jokes, but Scarlett told the audience that during filming of Deathly Hallows Alfie Enoch streaked through the Great Hall set. Evanna added that Alfie had, in fact, been caught by a security guard during his romp through the Great Hall and when confronted, asked the guard, “I’m sorry, am I not supposed to be naked here?”

Both Evanna and Scarlett were asked which Hogwarts house was their favorite, to which both actresses confessed that they preferred Gryffindor. However, Scarlett confessed to being sorted into Slytherin on Pottermore, while Evanna stated that she had been sorted into Gryffindor.

Evanna was asked her opinion about the Neville/Luna romance that was added to Deathly Hallows – Part 2 (and that many fans secretly shipped). Her reply: “I liked it. It was like, ‘Maybe… What if?’ They had a bond. They were both outsiders to the group. They didn’t really fit in anywhere.” Although she did concede, saying, “I personally think they wouldn’t have worked.”

On Sunday, Evanna also confessed to her own personal ship: “I had a weird ship for them for a while, Luna and Dumbledore.”

Both actresses were asked their favorite spell. Scarlett said the Levitation Charm; Evanna said the Patronus Charm. This then led into the discussion of what shape they believed their Patronus would take. Evanna, who on Saturday stated a preference for animal hybrids, wished for either a cabbit (cat/rabbit) or a meowl (cat/owl). Scarlett took a more traditional route and answered with a simple cat.

Finally, both actresses were asked which prop they wished that they could have taken from the Potter sets. Scarlett stated that she had a Slytherin ring of which she was very fond and is now included in the Warner Bros. Studio Tour. Evanna wished that she could have kept Luna’s lion hat or the animatronic Fawkes, although Creature Design did give her three of Fawkes’s feathers.
