Afshan Azad hands out awards, gives acting master class

Afshan Azad, best known for playing Padma Patil in the Harry Potter films, appeared this week at a British school in Blackburn. Afshan led an acting master class for Year 11 students at the school (Year 11 students are ages 15-16 and take GCSE exams, which are the equivalent to OWLs in Harry’s world). During the masterclass, Afshan spoke about her own acting experiences and gave feedback to the students. Later, Afshan handed out awards at a ceremony.

Afshan said that she met “many talented students” during the visit. The headmaster, Mr. Ford, spoke some more about the event:

She came in at 5pm, which was incredibly good of her because the awards didn’t start until later in the evening.

Our [Y]ear 11 drama students are split into two groups at the moment working on productions, and they were able to perform to Afshan and get some feedback.

We always try to get a celebrity or someone inspirational to talk to the students, and we got in touch with Afshan through a contact.

The pupils were very excited, and Afshan seemed quite impressed.

Afshan further said,

Thank you for honouring me to be guest speaker. I hope my speech inspired you all a little.

It sounds like a very successful visit!

Don’t forget – Afshan will be a special guest at MuggleNet Live! 2015: Expo Patronum, which is taking place next April. If you’d like to see Afshan, and you haven’t gotten your tickets, yet, make sure you get them soon!

Were you one of the students in the master class? Are you coming to MuggleNet Live! next year? Let us know.
