Rumor: Emma Watson to star in movie musical “La La Land”

Rumors are swirling that we will soon be seeing Emma Watson sing and dance in the upcoming musical film La La Land.

Emma will reportedly star as Mia, an aspiring actress in Los Angeles who falls for a jazz musician, played by Miles Teller (Divergent, Whiplash). The two have big dreams, but their romance will be challenged by the competitive nature of the big city.

The film is written and directed by Damien Chazelle, who worked with Teller on Whiplash, one of this year’s Oscar contenders for Best Picture. He said of La La Land,

I’ve been trying to get it off the ground since I lived in LA, in the past five or six years. I wrote the script about four years ago, and I worked with the same guy who did the music on Whiplash. We wrote it four years ago, and we were just trying to convince someone to do an original, MGM-style musical because I don’t think there are enough.

The music is said to be heavily influenced by jazz and inspired by famous hit musicals such as Singin’ in the Rain, Gentleman Prefer Blondes, and Meet Me in St Louis. Filming will begin in March.

Emma also recently completed filming for her upcoming political thriller, Colonia. It is slated for release later this year.
