“Cursed Child” Script Tops Bestseller Charts

In what comes as a surprise to no one, the script book for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts I & II has topped bestseller charts since its announcement yesterday.

Though the book’s publication is nearly six months away, the book has skyrocketed to the No. 1 spot on Amazon, Amazon UK, Waterstones, and Barnes & Noble. While we won’t have numbers for pre-orders placed at independent bookstores for quite some time yet, undoubtedly it will be a popular item there as well.

Booksellers across the globe are already fielding questions from fans about what kinds of celebrations they can expect on July 31, 2016. James Daunt, chief executive of Waterstones, is promising fans a night to look forward to:

Younger booksellers now face, of course, the dubious prospect of their older colleagues rolling out war stories of Harry Potter launches for the next five months. On 31 July, we will put these into the shade.

Unfortunately, Little, Brown has confirmed that J.K. Rowling won’t be appearing anywhere to celebrate the release of the book, which is perhaps to be expected considering that the script was penned not by Rowling but by Jack Thorne (adapted from a new story by Jo, of course).

You can pre-order the book on Amazon in hardcover here or for Kindle here. If you live in the UK, both Waterstones and Amazon UK are offering the book at half-price, for just £10. You may also want to check out your local independent bookstore since many of them may be planning to host midnight release parties – always the most fun way to usher in a new Potter book.

I've never wavered from the declaration in my childhood journal, circa October 2000: "I LOVE Harry Potter! If I clean my room, my mom says she'll make me a dinner a wizard would love!" Proud Gryffindor; don't hate.
