Emma Watson Launches HeForShe Arts Week in New York

It’s International Women’s Day, and that means the launch of the first ever HeForShe Arts Week. The inaugural HeForShe Arts Week was announced at the end of January and was launched today (March 8) by Emma Watson in New York City. The week will celebrate artists and art and engage with art all over the city.

Find out more about the campaign in the video below.

Emma appeared on stage today to launch the week, and she chatted with Forest Whitaker, an artist, social activist, and UNESCO Special Enovy for Peace, about gender inequality and the arts. If you missed the livestream earlier today, you can watch the full conversation below.

Afterward, Emma tweeted about the event.

After launching Arts Week, Emma headed to the Empire State Building, where she lit up the building in pink alongside Chirlane McCray, an activist, artist, and First Lady of New York (seen in the promotional video above).

Finally – Emma also revealed that Twitter had created a very special HeForShe emoji! Make sure to try it out and show your support for HeForShe.
