Video: Matthew Lewis Talks Geekery and Difficult Choices at “Me Before You” London Premiere

Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom) was on the red carpet this week for the London premiere of Me Before You, the much-anticipated film adaptation of the bestselling novel by Jojo Moyes. Matt plays Patrick, the boyfriend of main character Louise (Emilia Clarke).

In the video, Matt talks about working with Emilia Clarke and the rest of the cast. He goes on to describe the coincidence that a number of the cast, including himself, made their names in large fan franchises:

It’s a weird thing… There was that dimension with Sam [Claflin]’s ‘Hunger Games’ and Emilia [Clarke]’s ‘Game of Thrones’ and then Jenna [Coleman] and ‘Doctor Who’. And you just had to go, wow, it’s quite a coming together of all these sci-fi/fantasy [franchises]. I’m a bit of a geek myself, to be quite honest with you.

So when I stopped and thought about it, I thought, that is pretty cool. And hopefully it’ll get people watching the film because the story is so beautiful, and the message is so powerful.

He also describes his experience reading the book and thinking about the difficult choices about disabilities that the characters have to make. The film has sparked controversy in the form of both criticism and praise from disability rights activists, some of whom showed up to protest at the premiere.

The film opens in theaters in both the US and UK on June 3.

Are you looking forward to Me Before You?
