Top Five Trio Friendship Moments

In honor of the International Day of Friendship, I’ve looked at one of the best literary relationships. Below are my top five trio friendship moments.

  1. The trio and the troll

There are some things you can’t share without ending up liking each other, and knocking out a twelve-foot mountain troll is one of them” (Sorcerer’s Stone 179).

The incident with the troll marked the beginning of a long friendship. This foe altered the dynamics and united them against an obstacle. Not only did the troll bring them all together, but it was also the first of many deadly encounters they overcame together.

  1. “All was well”

After everything they went through together, it was amazing to see that they ended up a family and closer than ever. They earned their happiness after all the trials and tribulations they faced.

The scar had not pained Harry for nineteen years. All was well” (Deathly Hallows 759).

  1. The lake challenge

She’s my friend too!” Harry yelled, gesturing toward Hermione, an enormous silver bubble emerging soundlessly from his lips. “And I don’t want them to die either” (Goblet of Fire 500).

The fact that Ron is what Harry would “sorely miss” (Goblet of Fire 463) highlights the deep connection they have. Not only that, Harry stays to make sure that Hermione and the others are all right.

  1. “We’re with you”

You said to us once before,” said Hermione quietly, “that there was time to turn back if we wanted to. We’ve had time, haven’t we?

“We’re with you whatever happens,” said Ron” (Half-Blood Prince 651).

When both Hermione and Ron volunteer to help Harry with his incredible task, we see the strength of their friendship. They are willing to sacrifice their lives to aid their friend.

  1. Retrieving the Sorcerer’s Stone

Ron’s chess ability combined with Hermione’s intelligence and Harry’s bravery led to the reclamation of the stone. It took all three of them to achieve their task. In addition, Ron sacrificing himself for the other two during the chess match demonstrates his courage and loyalty, two of his greatest attributes.

You’ve got to make some sacrifices! I make my move and she’ll take me — that leaves you free to checkmate the king, Harry” (Sorcerer’s Stone 283).
