I think he might perhaps be Gellert Grindelwald? I’m so excited

I just saw a source that he’s gonna be Grindelwald. I’m not sure how I feel…

I hate this news and I hope it’s not true. Other HP actors have had their personal lives effect their roles, so I don’t understand why an abusive Johnny Depp would be considered suitable for a major role in the FB franchise. I’m very surprised J.K. Rowling would agree to his casting. If this turns out to be true, then I’ll be honest and say the FB franchise will feel a bit tainted for me, and I’ll be a lot less excited for movies 2-5.

While I’m not a fan of Johnny Depp for other reasons, he has never been proven guilty and there is some legitimate doubt. And it’s still “in dubio pro reo”. It would not only be a shame but also against any form of justice, if he isn’t allowed to work because of some unproven accusations.

I believe Amber Heard because I’ve seen the pictures, and I don’t support abusive stars. He should be recast in future movies, if he really is only a cameo in FB. He is too controversial to have near the FB franchise and he isn’t a good role model for younger fans to see onscreen. But I wouldn’t want him in the franchise regardless, because he will overshadow everyone else and all the PR and media will become about him. Another actor is a better choice for Grindlewald.

If you mean the pictures which Heard sold to People magazine, you might not be aware that these were never submitted to court as evidence or subjected to any kind of meaningful scrutiny. Lots of details raise serious questions about her credibility. Depp’s legal team submitted extensive witness & evidence lists with which to refute her claims had the hearing gone ahead. But she withdrew all her allegations ‘with prejudice’ & agreed to a divorce settlement which bore no comparison to her original financial demands. I think it would be a shame for his participation in the franchise to be condemned under these circumstances, when nothing was ever proven against him. I do sympathise with your other reservations, but will withhold judgement until we have seen his performance. Rowling will have had a say in casting him & presumably thought he would be a good choice.

Maybe Johnny Depp plays Newt’s brother Theophilius (what’s his name?).

please say its not true… I love Johnny Depp, but I think its going to kill some of the magic if he is playing a big part in the next fantastic beasts… its just not going to be very “convincing” seeing him as a wizard, because we already know him so well as a Jack Sparrow….

He’s proven himself capable of disappearing in roles, though too. I think he’ll surprise you. If you’ve seen Black Mass, you must know what I mean. Incredible, really.
