Domhnall Gleeson, John Williams Confirmed for “Star Wars”: Episode IX

The cast of Star Wars: Episode IX has been revealed, and we’re happy to see that it includes Domhnall Gleeson (Bill Weasley), who will be continuing his role as General Hux, commander of the First Order in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.

Also confirmed is legendary composer John Williams (composer of the first three Harry Potter films), who has worked on all of the Star Wars films thus far. We can’t wait to hear his music again!

Other returning cast members from the new trilogy are Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, and Billie Lourd. New cast members for Episode IX will be Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, and Keri Russell. They will be joined by returning cast members from the original trilogy Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Billy Dee Williams, and the late Carrie Fisher.

Fisher will be appearing thanks to unused footage from The Force Awakens. Director J.J. Abrams described the decision to StarWars.com:

We desperately loved Carrie Fisher. Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honor Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.

You can check out what Domhnall Gleeson previously had to say about playing General Hux here and our thoughts on The Last Jedi here. We can’t wait to find out what the finale of the new trilogy has in store.

Star Wars: Episode IX will begin filming on August 1, 2018, at Pinewood Studios in London and is scheduled for release on December 20, 2019.
