Top Five Romantic “Harry Potter” Moments

The Harry Potter series is filled with great couples. In the face of all the magic and chaos, it was great to see relationships develop and bloom. To celebrate that, I’ve looked at my favorite moments from five great couples.

Ginny and Harry

Ginny and Harry had great moments in the books. Unfortunately, a lot of their relationship didn’t make it into the films, including a time when they were just hanging out in the common room. Harry was constantly preoccupied with matters of life and death, so it’s great that their relationship had humorous moments.

‘Three Dementor attacks in a week, and all Romilda Vane does is ask me if it’s true you’ve got a hippogriff tattooed across your chest.’
‘What did you tell her?’
‘I told her it’s a Hungarian Horntail,’ said Ginny, turning a page of newspaper idly. ‘Much more macho’” (HBP 500).

Hermione and Ron

They are my favorite Harry Potter couple. I loved seeing their maturation and progression from friends to more than that over the series, so it’s hard to pick just one moment for them. Their first kiss was the major defining moment in their relationship. Plus, Ron was advocating for the house-elves, something Hermione did for years, which made it even more meaningful.

‘No,’ said Ron seriously, ‘I mean we should tell them [house-elves] to get out. We don’t want any more Dobbies, do we? We can’t order them to die for us —”’
There was a clatter as the basilisk fangs cascaded out of Hermione’s arms. Running at Ron, she flung them around his neck and kissed him full on the mouth. Ron threw away the fangs and broomstick he was holding and responded with such enthusiasm that he lifted Hermione off her feet” (DH 625).

Arthur and Molly

They’re the ultimate Harry Potter power couple. They had their share of struggles and challenges, but they’ve managed to stand by each other and raise seven great children together.

Yes, well, your father and I were made for each other” (HBP 93).

Bill and Fleur

Although not one of the more prominent couples, their love really shines through. They stand by each other no matter what. After Greyback attacked Bill, Fleur defied all expectations and stood by her fiancé.

‘You thought I would not weesh to marry him? Or per’aps, you hoped?’ said Fleur, her nostrils flaring. ‘What do I care how he looks? I am good-looking enough for both of us, I theenk! All these scars show is zat my husband is brave! And I shall do zat!’ she added fiercely, pushing Mrs. Weasley aside and snatching the ointment from her” (HBP 623).

James and Lily

Although they had a rough start, they grew to mature and love each other. Unfortunately, they didn’t have a long marriage, but from the brief insight we have, we know they loved each other. After all, James was willing to sacrifice himself to protect Harry and Lily.

Lily, take Harry and go! It’s him! Go! Run! I’ll hold him off!” (DH 343)
