LIVE from MISTI-Con: 'Harry Potter: Book to Screen'
It's something of a given in Fandom conversations that the Harry Potter novels are not only the original story but the best experience of the Hogwarts Saga. It's hard to deny, though, that the film Goliath, the Potter Industry, took over the focus of Fandom discussions well before the last novel was published. What's missing from these conversations in most cases is a substantive look at the relation of print books and filmed adaptations. MuggleNet Academia is at the MISTI Con convention in Laconia, NH, today with Janet Scott Batchler, a professional screenwriter with Hollywood blockbuster credits who also teaches her craft at the University of Southern California. In addition, she is a Potter Pundit of the first order and her What Will Harry Do? The Unofficial Guide to Payoffs and Possibilities in Book 7 was a challenging guide to Deathly Hallows even before that book was published! Janet joins us as the Keynote Speaker at MISTI Con to talk about film adaptations, what did and didn't work in the Potter Film Franchise, and what effect the movies have had on Fandom. Welcome, Janet!
