Miriam Margolyes, who plays professor Sprout in the Harry Potter films, was recently honored by her old high school, Oxford High, which invited her to be the guest of honor at the launch of some new campus buildings and named a studio space after her. Margolyes says of the honor:

They said, 'Well would you like to [open the buildings]?'. Which of course I desperately wanted to and I had the most wonderful day and it was a real thrill. I opened the new buildings and the whole school were there in the auditorium and I gave a speech and I went round the building. It was thrilling, and then I went to see the Miriam Margolyes Studio which is there in my school and I don't think I've had a happier day. It was absolutely wonderful.

It sounds like Miriam had a blast, but it turns out she wouldn't have had the opportunity to attend the launch if it wasn't for another Harry Potter star - Dame Maggie Smith!

Smith also attended the high school, and Margolyes was originally contacted so that she could ask Maggie if she would like to do the opening. Maggie declined, and the job fell to Miriam! Says Margoyles, "I was really pleased that Maggie didn't do it, because I got to." Sounds like it worked out for everyone in the end!

For the next four nights, Miriam Margolyes (who Harry Potter fans will recognize as having played Professor Pomona Sprout in the film adaptations of our beloved series) is bringing a close to her ten-month, highly-acclaimed international tour of a show that she co-created, called Dickens' Women. Five performances remain, and they are taking place at Chicago Shakespeare Theater's "Upstairs Theater" - on Navy Pier in Chicago, Illinois.

MuggleNet recently spoke to Madam Margolyes about the production where she expressed her delight in visiting Chicago and ending her tour in the city.

After catching the premiere performance of Dickens' Women tonight, we have posted a review of the show which can be read here. We were very entertained by Madam Margolyes, and enlightened by her storytelling as she recounted the life of Charles Dickens and portrayed some 23 different characters throughout the show.

Tickets are still available for Dickens' Women, and if you are in the Chicagoland area we encourage you to see Madam Margolyes in such an intimate setting as "The Upstairs Theater."

British actress Miriam Margolyes, known to Potter fans for playing Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter films, is currently performing her one-woman show, Dickens' Women, on a comprehensive international tour. The show was written by Margolyes and Sonia Fraser, and features the BAFTA award-winning actress assuming 23 different roles from across Charles Dickens' literature, "from doe-eyed young heroines to brow-beating old harridans — as she sets out to discover Charles Dickens himself."

MuggleNet had the pleasure of interviewing Madam Margolyes recently, and that interview is now available on our site.

In our interview, Madam Margolyes spoke about the tour's final stop, in Chicago, Illinois:

"My show is not a play - and it's quite difficult to describe. It's like, well, if I say it's an animated lecture, that doesn't nearly give you the thrill of it. Because let me tell you that every night, every night in Vancouver and everywhere else, the audience leaps to their feet at the end of the show... they are witnessing something rather extraordinary and they know it. And I know it, too - I know it's my swan song. I won't do it again. And my performances in Chicago will be the last performances of something that means a very great deal to me, so it's extremely charged... I believe that the Chicago audience is a fitting audience for me to say goodbye. And I believe they will relish it."

The Chicago production of Dickens' Women OPENS TONIGHT at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater on Navy Pier, where it will see six performances between today and Saturday, December 22nd. Tickets are still available via the show's page. This is truly a one-of-a-kind opportunity to see a veteran actress working passionately with familiar material and bringing great laughs and entertainment to an audience.

Also in our interview, we ask specific questions about Dickens, learn a lot in return, and we even find out which prop or item from the Harry Potter set the actress who plays the proud Head of Hufflepuff House took home with her! The interview is a must-read. We can't wait to see the show!

Daniel Radcliffe’s tendency to prank his fellow Harry Potter cast-mates often added levity to the set, but there was at least one time when his antics went a little too far.

Reportedly, Robbie Coltrane, who portrayed Hagrid in the films, was once a victim of a prank where the young actor changed the settings on his friend’s phone from English to Turkish. The joke seems harmless enough—except that Coltrane was left unable to make calls!

The infuriated actor had a hard time finding anyone on set who could change the settings of his phone back to English, and Radcliffe was left feeling understandably sheepish about what he had done. Coltrane remembers the event clearly:

Eventually we found a girl in the Harry Potter make-up department who was Turkish Cypriot. She phoned her mum and was chatting away in great detail until they sorted it out. I think Daniel was so upset at what had happened that he wrote me that note...'Dear Mr. Coltrane, I'm sorry I changed your mobile telephone into Turkish...

Have you ever been part of a prank gone too far? Let us know in the comments!

If you are in the Chicago area for the week prior to Christmas, you will definitely want to head over to the Chicago Shakespeare Theater's Upstairs stage to watch Miriam Margolyes - the British actress who portrayed Professor Pomona Sprout in the Harry Potter films - as she is performing her one-woman show titled Dicken's Women from December 18-22.

As the Chicago Sun-Times reports, Margolyes will be bringing to life 23 of Charles Dickens female characters, ranging from "doe-eyed young heroines to browbeating old harridans." These characters will include favorites like Mrs. Micawber (David Copperfield), Miss Havisham (Great Expectations), and Mrs. Gamp (Martin Chuzzlewit).

Tickets for the show can be obtained by calling the Chicago Shakespeare Theater box office at (312) 595-5600 or by visiting www.chicagoshakes.com. Ticket prices are $50-60.

Will you be attending this unique show.
