Addressing the press last night after winning an Emmy for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in the HBO miniseries Into the Storm, actor Brendan Gleeson noted that he has just finished filming in his role as Mad-Eye Moody for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I. "I waved goodbye to him a week and a half ago. It was great fun, playing Mad-Eye was a hoot." Thanks to Snitch Seeker for the tip!

Draco Malfoy actor Tom Felton is the latest person to let the world know that he is now finished with filming for the Harry Potter franchise.

In an interview with The Press Association, Tom says the feeling when he finished was 'weird':

"I was expecting this big emotional breakdown but instead the first AD (assistant director) got out the microphone and listed the names of people who it was their last day and forced the crew for a ripple of applause and then we walked off and that was it," Tom revealed.

"The reason why it perhaps hasn't sunk in yet is because we always feel like we're going to be asked back for something or other, I'm sure it's not the last time we've seen those studios," he laughed.

Congratulations to Tom for finishing filming! At this point, we believe all filming is complete. Unfortunately no official statements have been made - yet.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 was honored with the Hollywood Movie of the Year Award at last night's 15th Annual Hollywood Film Awards Gala.

The final Potter film was chosen by the public voting online at the Yahoo! Movies website.

"Picking up the award on behalf of the crew was Tom Felton who played one of the villains in the movie. Thanking the fans, the organization and everyone involved in the film, once again the star reminded everyone just how humble they were for the opportunity to be part of a major movie franchise."

Hopefully, this is just one of many awards for the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 film and series as a whole.

Included in this honorable group will be author J.K. Rowling, director David Yates, producers David Heyman and David Barron, screenwriter Steve Kloves, production designer Stuart Craig, art director Neil Lamont, and set decorator Stephanie McMillan.

This coming year should be a huge award year for the 'Potter' franchise, and we hope the push by Warner Brothers will pay off at the 2012 Academy Awards as well.

Warner Brothers has just recently launched a new website in order to promote the studio's best movies of 2011, in order to give the Academy a preview of which films they want voters to consider for nominations.

The following movies are being promoted: Cantagion, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Happy Feet Two, J. Edgar, and of course Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2.

The website gives a detailed description of each film's news, reviews, possible nomination categories, as well as a sampling of the scoring from each film. For Deathy Hallows - Part 2, WB is showcasing some brilliant photos from key scenes in the movie.

This is not a public voting website, but it looks terrific and will hopefully go a long way towards the promotion WB plans to implement to win some Oscars at next year's Academy Awards!

As we previously mentioned, Warner Brothers has established a 'For your consideration' mini-site, which showcases their top films from 2011 which they hope to see nominated at the 2012 Academy Awards.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 is one of those movies up for consideration, and now Warner Brothers has added a small trailer on the site to showcase the film.

One hurdle Warner Brothers will have to overcome is the recent rule changes regarding nominations for Best Picture. Back in June, the Academy announced that instead of nominating 10 movies for Best Picture as they have done since 2009, they will now only nominate the movies they think deserve it (a number between 5 and 10).

Certainly Deathly Hallows - Part 2 will be on that list! Do you agree?

Will the Harry Potter series finally get its just reward at the Academy Awards next year? David Yates, David Heyman, Dan Radcliffe and Alan Rickman all attended a very special luncheon with ComingSoon.net at the prestigious New York Club 21 last week, and they discussed their chances in depth.

David Yates stated: "The film was so brilliantly received - we were probably one of the best reviewed movies of the year by a long way - and for a big, popular commercial film to get that great a response is really encouraging and heartening and I think it gives us all a bit of confidence for the Oscars campaign."

David Heyman added: "Warner Brothers believes in it, I think this is the accumulation of eight films. I'm really proud of the film, and actually, it was well-reviewed, I think it was 97% on Rotten Tomatoes."

Dan Radcliffe further added: "I think it's a great film, it's stirring, it's epic, it pulls a lot of loose ends together, which is not an easy thing to do when a story still had to go at such a pace, but it's the advantage of splitting it. It meant we took all that time in film 1 setting up film 2, so when we got into film 2, it could just be that non-stop ride. I haven't watched it since the premieres but I've never liked a 'Harry Potter' film as much as I liked this one. Part 2 is the one I'm proudest of."

So what do you think about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2's Oscar chances? Well, it's certainly in an interesting position because it was so well reviewed and received by fans and critics alike. Additionally, it's the last in the series of an extremely popular eight-film franchise, making it the last time this crew can be honored by their peers for their achievements on eight high-quality, blockbuster films.

We will continue to keep you informed of the Harry Potter Oscar push as we get more details and reports.

Harry Potter actors Ralph Fiennes and Kenneth Branagh were honored at the Moet British Independent Film Awards at Old Billingsgate Market in London on December 4.

Fiennes, who portrayed Lord Voldemort in five of the Harry Potter films, was honored with the Richard Harris Award for his outstanding contribution to British films throughout his career.

The Richard Harris Award, named in honor of the actor who portrayed Albus Dumbledore in the first two Harry Potter films, has previously been awarded to other Potter stars John Hurt, Jim Broadbent, David Thewlis and Helena Bonham Carter.

Kenneth Branagh, who portrayed Gilderoy Lockhart in Chamber of Secrets received The Variety Award. Branagh looked back on his role in the Potter film series.

"[It was] lovely to be part of that because it's such a big bit of the British film industry," he said.

"I've just done a film, My Week With Marilyn, with Emma Watson, who was this size when I first worked with her, and to see her maturing, and Dan [Daniel Radcliffe] and everyone, that's exacting," Branagh added.

Dan Radcliffe is weighing in on his desire to see Alan Rickman get rewarded for the brilliant performance as double-agent Professor Severus Snape in the upcoming Academy Awards.

On January 12, 2012, the official nominations for the Oscars will be announced, and as we have reported many times, a campaign from Warner Bros. Entertainment Company and the fans for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 is in full swing for both cast and crew nominations and potential victories.

Dan Radcliffe has joined this campaign for fellow star Alan Rickman as the Best Supporting Actor candidate by stating:

"I don't think there is going to be another performance from an actor in a supporting role that is so powerful, where the actor had the challenge of realising a scene that's been realised millions of times the world over in the imagination of readers.

That scene - those revelations about Snape's past - represented maybe the most anticipated part [of one] of the most anticipated movies of the past 10 years. I think Alan does amazing, amazing work."

We are a little over a month away from finding out just how many Oscar nominations the Harry Potter franchise will receive. In the meantime, tell us who you think should receive a nomination from the Academy in the comments below.

The American Film Institute (AFI) voted special awards for the entire Harry Potter film series on Sunday. The AFI Awards, which focuses on American features, cited ten movies and ten television programs of the year.

The movies of the year were: Bridesmaids, The Descendants, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Help, Hugo, J. Edgar, Midnight in Paris, Moneyball, The Tree of Life and The War Horse.

The selections were made by a jury that was chaired by Tom Pollock for the movies and also included Whoopi Goldberg, fim historian Leonard Maltin, university professors, critics and members of the AFI board of trustees.

The creative ensemble behind the chosen film will be honored at an invitation-only luncheon on January 13, 2012 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles.

Harry Potter fans may be seriously disappointed, if not completely upset, by the list of nominations given for the upcoming Academy Awards as predicted by the 'Broadcasting Film Critics Association - Critics Choice' website.

At the top of the list for the Critics Choice nominations for Best Picture are The Artist and Hugo followed by The Descendents, Drive, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, The Help, Midnight in Paris, Moneyball, The Tree of Life, and War Horse.

What seems to be missing from all of the top categories? Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2. In fact, the Critics Choice site only lists the Deathly Hallows in the categories of Best Art Direction, Best Makeup, Best Sound, and Best Visual Effects.

If this listing of nominations proves to be anything close to what is revealed next month, then there will be some extremely disappointed and upset 'Potter' fans around the world.

These predictions seem to be echoed by the San Diego Film Critics nominations as well as they also released their predictions for the upcoming Oscars.

The nominations for the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards have just been announced and fans of the Harry Potter series will be disappointed once again with the lack of acknowledgements.

The Screen Actors Guild Awads show will be held via simulcast live from the Pacific Design Center's SilverScreen Theater in Hollywood, California on Sunday, January 29th, 2012 on TNT and TBS networks at 8:00pm EST/5:00pm PST.

Of the top industry accolades presented to performers, only the Screen Actors Guild Awards are selected solely by their peers. Two nominating panels - one for film and one for television - each composed of 2,100 randomly selected Guild members from across the United States, chose this year's Actor and stunt ensemble honors nominees.

So what awards are the cast and crew of Harry Potter nominated for? Here is the "short list":

Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture

Warner Brothers is trying to work its magic on the Academy by reportedly lobbying voters to nominate Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 in a variety of categories for the Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director for David Yates.

We have previously reported on the variety of publicity that Warner Brothers has given towards the Academy Awards with their 'For Your Consideration...' promotions. But they also realize that time is running out to give the franchise its well deserved send-off.

In addition to the Best Picture and Best Director nods, Warner Brothers is also pushing for Best Actor and Best Actress to go to Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson respectively, and Best Supporting Actor to Alan Rickman for his double-agent performance as Professor Severus Snape.

Currently, according to Oscar Buzz, Alan Rickman leads the way in Most Mentioned Actors and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 leads in Most Mentioned Movies for this week.

Although it will certainly be an uphill challenge to get the Academy to nominate Harry Potter for the more prestigious awards, we like what Warner Brothers is doing and hope it will serve them well. The nominations will be formerly announced on January 24th and the Academy Awards will take place on February 26th.

Keep your fingers crossed and let's get our voices heard by the Academy.

Last night, the Art Directors Guild (ADG) announced their nominees and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 was nominated in the Fantasy Film Category.

Unlike the Oscars, the ADG separates its movie awards into three different categories - Period Film, Fantasy Film, and Contemporary Film; therefore, a larger selection of films can be saluted from both Oscar favorites and Oscar longshots. Typically, the Oscars are selected from the ADG's Period Film category, which doesn't bode well for Harry Potter.

Deathly Hallows - Part 2 will be up against Captain America: The First Avenger, The Adventures of Tintin, Prirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and Cowboys and Aliens.

The 16th Annual Art Directors Guild Awards will be held on February 4th.

While Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 might not make the cut for the "big" awards in the upcoming Oscars, one of the strong contenders to receive an award for the series comes from Tim Burke and his Visual Effects team.

In a new article, Tim - who has been with the franchise since Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets - discusses his experience behind-the-scenes of the franchise and how the visual effects were instrumental to the film's success. Of note:

"We created the world of 'Harry Potter' whole," for the two-part finale, including, or perhaps especially, the concluding section which features, primarily, the climatic battle between Harry and Voldemort - and their respective forces - to determine the future of the wizarding world.

The visual effects seen in the film are truly remarkable; for example, the giant spiders (the company that did Aragog in the second film was no longer in business) used during the final battle and the entire Chamber of Secrets (the set was struck long ago) had to be rebuilt from scratch. Additionally, the Hogwarts castle itself had to stradle between the real and digital worlds as they used a model for the basis of building the CG model including the back of the school, which had never previously been rendered.

We hope Tim Burke and his visual effects team can ultimately win an award at the Oscars, which takes place February 26th.

The USA Today has just announced that the short-list of nominations for the Academy Award for Visual Effects includes Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2.

Yesterday, we shared a report regarding the visual effects supervisor for the Harry Potter series, Tim Burke, on the creation of some of the crucial scenes in the film. Today, Tim's team has been listed among the ten finalists vying for the coveted Oscar, and we think the Harry Potter franchise has an excellent chance of winning this Oscar.

Here are the other short-listed nominees:

  • Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
  • Real Steel
  • Rise of the Planet of the Apes
  • Captain America: The First Avenger

Although Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 was not in the nominations for some of the top awards at this year's Critics' Choice Awards Show tonight, the franchise still cast its spell on two of the four categories it was nominated for.

Deathly Hallows - Part 2 won Best Makeup and Best Sound while falling short in the categories of Best Art Direction and Best Visual Effects to Hugo and Rise of the Planet of the Apes respectively.

You can see a full listing of the winners from tonight's show right here.

Congratulations to the dedicated and hard working crew members in all of these departments.

Yesterday, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles, California, Chris Columbus - who directed the first two Harry Potter films and was instrumental in the casting of the actors - was on hand to accept the award for the franchise.

Earlier today, we reported on the BAFTA nominations that took place in which Dan Radcliffe and Holliday Grainger presented the nominations. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 was nominated in four (4) categories this year including: Production Design, Sound, Special Visual Effects, and Make-up and Hair.

In an interview after the announcements were completed, Dan said how pleased he was for the nominations that Deathly Hallows - Part 2 received, especially for Amanda Knight and Lisa Tomblin for Makeup and Hair, as they were "kind of like my other mothers. Particularly Amanda for ten years and Lisa for five or six. So to see them nominated is amazing. I'll be texting them shortly."

Dan also commented that he would be really rooting for Gary Oldman - the actor who portrayed Sirius Black in the Harry Potter series - who was nominated for Leading Actor for his role in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

Once again, Congratulations to the teams behind the four (4) nominations received for Deathly Hallows - Part 2.

The nominations were released today from the Costume Design Guild and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 (costume designer Jany Temime) was nominated in the category of Excellence in Fantasy Film.

Deathly Hallows - Part 2 will be competing with Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Red Riding Hood, Thor, and X-Men: First Class.

On a disappointing note however, Harry Potter was NOT nominated by the Cinema Audio Society even though the film received nominations from the BAFTAs and Won Best Sound at the Critics Choice Awards. The nominations they selected over Deathly Hallows - Part 2 was Hanna, Hugo, Moneyball, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and Super 8.

During last night's annual visual effect's bake-off - a lengthy branch-specific event that features reel screenings of effects works on the seven (7) Visual Effects finalists for the Academy Awards and presentations from the supervisors involved in that department - could dramatically effect the selection chances of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 into the Final nomination ballot.

David Cohen of Variety is a leading expert when it comes to the world of visual effects and comprehensive reports from the annual bake-off. And according to his twitter, the reel from the Potter team, including Visual Effects Supervisor Tim Burke, turned out to be the wrong reel. They inadvertantly presented the "Makeup" reel to the selection committee.

Eventually, they did get to show the proper visual effects reel, but the damage might have already been done. We will find out on Tuesday when the nominations for the Academy Awards are presented.

Let's hope this mistake didn't cost Deathly Hallows - Part 2 and Tim Burke's visual effects team a chance at the Oscar!

The Harry Potter franchise is the MOST successful film franchise in box office history, earning an impressive $7.7 Billion at the worldwide box office and yet...it has never won a single Oscar.

The series has been nominated 9 previous times, most of which were in the technical aspects of the film, but has lost each nomination. Will Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 get the love it so deserves at this years Academy Awards?

Warner Brothers launched a massive For Your Consideration campaign late last year and even Dan Radcliffe has campaigned for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar to go to his cast mate Alan Rickman for his brilliant performance as the Double-agent Professor Snape saying, "I don't think there is going to be another performance from an actor in a supporting role that is so powerful, where the actor had the challenge of realising [British spelling] a scene that's been realised millions of times the world over in the imagination of readers. That scene - those revelations about Snape's past - represented maybe the most anticipated part [of one] of the most anticipated movies of the past 10 years. I think Alan does amazing, amazing work."

From Next Movie:

'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2' had it all: phenomenal acting, brilliant filmmaking, thrilling visuals and unforgettable storytelling. There may never be another franchise with as much longevity and universal appeal.

We will be announcing the nominations for the Oscars as soon as they are made tomorrow morning at 5:30am PST/8:30am EST.

Producer of the Harry Potter film series, David Heyman, shared his reaction to today's announcements of the Academy Awards nominations by remaining graceful in spite of the fact that the finale was the largest box office hit of the year and remains at the No.3 position on the all-time World Box Office gross:

"What I am very happy about is that the audience seemed to respond and that's really the important thing, isn't it. But you know what? I'm really happy that the arts department and the special effects department and the makeup department were all recognized"

While it's true that the fans should be incredibly honored that the departments for the three(3) Oscar nominations were recognized, many fans of the series are sharing their utter disappointment on the social media, especially for the lack of consideration for Best Supporting Actor Alan Rickman, and the "empty" spot for the Best Picture category since votes were less than the 5% required as we reported earlier.

How do you feel about the nominations for this years Oscars? Let us know in the comments below.

If you are wondering why in the world Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 failed to receive a nomination in any of the major categories such as Best Film, Best Adapted Screenplay, or even more disappointing - Best Supporting Actor for the brilliant work of Alan Rickman, then you are definitely not alone! Millions of Harry Potter fans and movie critics around the world are wondering the same thing.

Could it be that the Academy that decides the nominations are biased because of the series being a British film series? No, because The King's Speech won many awards last year at the Oscars. What about the Academy not showing respect to a fantasy film? No, Lord of the Rings was an epic fantasy tale that took home the Best Picture and 12 other awards in 2004. So what could it be?

We have a MuggleNet fan's perspective from Stuart Klein that might explain it:

The real thing that shot Deathly Hallows - Part 2's chances, and for that matter Alan Rickman's, was the way that Warner Brothers went about their 'For your Consideration' campaign. The original campaign pushed for two actors for Best Actor (Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint), one for Best Actress (Emma Watson), two for Best Supporting Actress (Helena Bonham Carter and Dame Maggie Smith), and EIGHT for Best Supporting Actor (Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Michael Gambon, John Hurt, Matthew Lewis, Gary Oldman, Alan Rickman, and David Thewlis).

There's nothing wrong with Warner Brothers thinking that the cast is overwhelmingly talented; however, the Best Supporting Actor list reads like a laundry list. Looking at this one movie, personally I do not see why certain actors are included in this grouping. As a franchise yes, each of these actors have shown growth and development and truly moved the audience. On this one movie, the movie that the academy must consider as it was the only one released during the eligibility period, no. Only a few of them even had a large enough role in Part 2 to be able to stand out.

What further hurts matters is that the stand out actor from the final movie, Alan Rickman, falls so far to the bottom of the list alphabetically. Had Warner Brothers pushed for solely Alan Rickman as Supporting Actors, his chances would probably have been much more significant.

As far as Best Picture goes, Part 2 never really stood a fighting chance. While you may argue that Lord of the Rings was a fandom that won Best Picture, it was also successful at getting every one of its movies nominated for Best Picture. The third installment winning was more of a nod towards the saga as a whole and its brilliance throughout. The later films for Potter have certainly been darker, and shown much more depth on the part of the actors, but on the whole the first few films cannot compare to the final one in film quality. Had Part 2 been nominated, it certainly would not have won. It would have been nominated as a sign of respect that the academy has acknowledged the series for its success overall but come Oscar night it sadly would not take home the award.

Do you agree with Stuart? Let us know in the comments your reasons for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 snubbing by the academy.

Last night at the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Award show, which took place at the Shrine Exposition Hall in Los Angeles, California, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 was nominated for one category and took home the prize in Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture.

The stunt team was nominated along with the stunt teams from: The Adjustment Bureau, Cowboys and Aliens, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and X-Men: First Class.

Congratulations to the entire Harry Potter Stunt Team! You can view all of the names from the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 stunt team right here.

During a recent interview with the Radio Times, Dan Radcliffe said he was disappointed by the Academy's failure to honour the final installment in the Harry Potter film franchise.

During last month's award nomination announcements, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 received nominations in only three categories: Art Direction, Makeup, and Visual Effects.

Dan stated:

"I don't think the Oscars like commercial films, or kids' films, unless they're directed by Martin Scorsese. I was watching Hugo the other day and going, 'Why is this nominated and we're not?' I was slightly miffed. There's a certain amount of snobbery. It's kind of disheartening. I never thought I'd care. But it would've been nice to have some recognition, just for the hours put in."

The film series has been nominated for an Oscar in six of the eight films, but ALL of them have been for technical or craft categories, and yet, they have not won one single Oscar. For the most successful film franchise in history, that is a outright shame.

Will 'Potter' win something this year? We wait to find out on February 26th.
