The Showmaster's annual convention is to take place at the Braehead Arena on the 24th and 25th August 2013, where a number of popular culture guests will be available for signings and photographs throughout the weekend. Supanova Pop Culture Expo, the place where fans go to be face to face with "supa-star" celebrities, happened this past weekend in Brisbane, Australia, and MuggleNet staff member Alexandra was there to cover all of the Harry Potter action!

Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy), Chris Rankin (Percy Weasley), & Alfie Enoch (Dean Thomas) were there representing the Harry Potter cast, and even held two panels for fans to attend and ask questions. Some of the questions were quite, and the answers quite hilarious:

What animal from the series would Tom want as a pet? "Buckbeak."

What did they try get to keep, if anything, from the set? Chris: "My Weasley jumper!"

MuggleNet live tweeted the entire event, and the rest of the questions and answers can be found on the MuggleNet Live Twitter.

We were also lucky enough to be able to sit down and have a chat with Chris & Alfie. You can listen to the audio of the interview in full, and photos from the event can be seen on our Facebook page. You can also read Alexandra's full report from the event right here.

Did you attend Supanova this past weekend? Did you get a chance to talk with Tom, Alfie, or Chris?

Did Professor Severus Snape murder Headmaster Albus Dumbledore or was it assisted suicide? What about the torture of Hermione Granger and murder of Sirius Black by Bellatrix Lestrange? Was Lord Voldemort found guilty of the murder of Lily Potter?

These questions became the focus of a charity fundraising event held by Dereham Sixth Form College yesterday as law students assumed the roles of defense, prosecution, judge and jury, and cross examined witnesses including Harry Potter, cited legal precedents, explained the requirements of each charge and produced evidence culled from films and the Harry Potter book series by author J.K. Rowling.

The verdict:

  • Professor Severus Snape was found NOT GUILTY of murder
  • Madam Lestrange was found GUILTY of the torture of Hermione Granger and murder of Sirius Black
  • Lord Voldemort found GUILTY of the murder of Lily Potter

The vice-chairman of the student council stated "Everyone was serious about it and it was a good way of learning how to prosecute someone."

Chris Rankin - who portrayed Percy Weasley in the Harry Potter films - was also on hand at the event to answer questions about his experiences on set of the most successful franchise in history. And Chris' mother Marilyn Rankin, a soon-to-be-retired teacher, stated, "The event sprang from the A-level law students’ need to understand court procedures and to know and to be able to reference significant legal rulings, so this was all grounded in the curriculum but was end of term levity putting the 'Harry Potter' villains on trial."

Chris Rankin will be leaving the UK soon to attend Ascendio 2012 in Orlando, Florida, and this editor will be excited to chat with him regarding this fundraising event as this particular murder/assisted-suicide event was recently discussed during the MuggleNet Academia lesson on law.

Chris Rankin - who portrayed Percy Weasley in the Harry Potter series - will be one of three judges in the Grand Finale of a talent show called Dereham's Got Talent, which takes place tomorrow. The contest was organized specifically to involve the under-19 age group in Dereham Festival 2012 and the accompanying Community Festival.

Chris was born in New Zealand but locally raised in Dereham and landed fame from his role in Harry Potter. He attended Northgate High School and performed with Dereham Operatic Society's youth theatre company for a number of years. This event will be very much a homecoming for Chris.

Chris stated, "I'm starting to look forward to being back in Dereham Memorial Hall to judge Dereham's Got Talent! It's been years since I last trod these boards."

Fans should also note that MuggleNet will be spending some time with Chris and Afshan Azad - who portrayed Padma Patil in the Harry Potter films - at the HPEF Ascendio 2012 convention next month. We look forward to seeing both Chris and Afshan in Orlando.

If you have been to any of the conferences recently held by HPEF, odds are that you have seen Chris Rankin out and about, exploring (and, at times, signing autographs - always with a smile). Well yesterday, HPEF announced that Chris will be returning for their next conference, Ascendio 2012. In addition to his usual Q&A's and signing events, this year Chris (who plays Percy Weasley in the Potter films) has something even more special:

Hugely fascinated by Harry Potter fandom — and welcomed by it — Chris has focused his university thesis on fandom, and is excited to present his work at Ascendio — a Harry Potter actor-special guest first!

Ascendio, the conference, runs from July 12-15th, 2012 at the Universal Orlando resort space (in particular, Loews Portofino Bay resort, Orlando, FL). Not only does MuggleNet have a special referral page just for MuggleNet viewers, but we also have word that another announcement regarding the conference is scheduled to happen tomorrow.

Stay tuned to MuggleNet for the latest on HPEF's latest con. We look very forward to seeing Chris Rankin again, at Ascendio!

If you're going to be in France this December, you may want to check out a "Magic Christmas" in Paris from December 18-19, 2010 at La Maison Internationale.

The conference's Facebook page has Tom Felton, Chris Rankin and Matthew Lewis listed to attend, as well as others who have worked on the Harry Potter films. Those who have done French voiceovers for Harry, Ron, Hermione and Dolores Umbridge will also be in attendance.

Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in sessions with cast and crew, attend an autograph session and photo shoot, play games, enter contests and see a few magic shows. An orchestra will play music from the films throughout the conference. On Saturday night, a Sorcerer's Ball will be held.

If you're interested, check out the conference's Facebook page for full details. Thanks to Amandine!
