The Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park hasn't even seen its Grand Opening, but already we're learning about the first major expansion.
"The Potter theme park is receiving so much attention right now that Universal wants to stay ahead of the curve. They're already working with Warner Brothers and JK Rowling to add three new areas, which will open in Spring 2012. And by 'Spring 2012' I mean 'three days before Summer starts - June 18th, 2012.'"
What are the three new areas? We pressed our source, and here's what he had to say:
"Fans can expect to see some areas that resemble the books exactly. Remember that iconic line 'Not my daughter, you bitch!' in Deathly Hallows? Expect a new ride that lets you become Bellatrix or Mrs. Weasley, and experience what they experienced during that moment. Universal has developed new, state-of-the-art technology that allows for a person to become someone else. In this case, these two characters."
"Wow! What else can we expect?!" we exclaimed.
"Look forward to a new area where you get to spend a hour as a House Elf. You'll get to wear clothing, cook, and be treated like an Elf does in the books. At the end of the hour, Hermione comes in and saves you. If the park isn't too busy that day, you can tell Hermione you'd like to stay for an additional hour."
With our jaw on the floor - unable to speak - our source continued:
"Oh, and Universal heard that episode of MuggleCast where Andrew comes up with the idea for Dumbledore's Tower of Terror - based on the Disney Tower of Terror ride. You'll be able to fall from the Astronomy tower just like Dumbledore did. Only instead of dying, you get transported to a limbo area between life and death just like Harry does at the end of Deathly Hallows."
Construction for the three new areas just started today. We'll pass along any construction photos we receive!

When Bloomsbury announced last week that they are re-releasing the Harry Potter books in the UK with new covers to reach out to new generations, we were left scratching our heads. Why release the books with covers that don't appeal to today's children?
Lo and behold, today we learn that Scholastic is doing the same thing - but they're taking an approach we would have. The books will be retitled and sport new covers that will "appeal to today's Facebook generation of kids".
They've passed along final drafts of each cover to be exclusively revealed here on MuggleNet. Along with each cover is an explanation from Scholastic:
- Harry Potter and the Super Cool Stone: "Kids like things that are flashy. When they hear 'super' and 'cool', they know it's going to be something they want."
- Harry Potter and the Super SUPER Secret: "Kids love learning and sharing secrets. When they hear about a 'super SUPER' secret, they REALLY want to know about it!"
- Harry Potter and A Bad Guy Who's Actually Okay: "Research showed that when children read the 'Prisoner of Azkaban' title, they got a bit scared. By letting them know he turns out good, children will be more intrigued to pick it up. They'll ask, 'HOW does he turn good?! Omg!'"
- Harry Potter and FIREEEEEEEEEEEEEE!: "Kids loves screaming. Kids love fire. This title needs no explanation."

Warner Brothers today announced that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be split into three parts. Parts 1 and 2 retain their November and July dates respectively, while Part 3 will hit theaters in July 2013.
We spoke to a source at Leavesden Studios, who revealed: "We've got to be honest. When we started shooting Deathly Hallows, none of us wanted to stop. We experienced a fan-gasm. The book is simply amazing, and we love the people we work with. Each time we shot a scene we shot way too much extra footage because we loved the content so much. Before we knew it, we had enough content to fill three films."
When the Potter production team shared this news with Warner Brothers, many higher-ups - most notably CEO Alan Horn - jumped on the opportunity to turn it into a three-part finale.
One source at Warner Brothers' Burbank headquarters told us, "Mr. Horn got so excited when he heard about all the extra footage that he immediately jumped out of his chair, picked up his Looney Tunes commemorative pen, and started pretending to throw Avada Kedavra spells at other studio's headquarters he could see out his window. He knows that other studios are gonna hate this news."
WB tells us that the reason Parts 2 and 3 have a 2-year delay in between them is due to the fact that they want the franchise to last longer. It also helps WB's bottom line.
