MuggleNet report from JKR's tea party

We've mentioned a few times tonight MuggleNet staff member Christie, who was in Scotland to check out what was going on at Jo's reading of Beedle the Bard. She's just filed this report for us, detailing what went on:

I was able to speak to several people as they came out of the National Library of Scotland after Jo's Beedle the Bard reading this evening. As it turns out, the event for children that has been advertised was held earlier in the afternoon in the Avocate's Library.

According to a library employee, this evening's events included a reading of The Fountain of Fair Fortune as well as speeches thanking the publishers and editors from throughout her career.

The first person I spoke to actually approached me. He was an older man who leaned in conspiratorially to whisper, "She's not just a good writer, she's also quite sexy."

Report from Christie:
I was able to speak to several people as they came out of the National Library of Scotland after Jo's Beedle the Bard reading this evening. As it turns out, the event for children that has been advertised was held earlier in the afternoon in the Avocate's Library. According to a library employee, this evening's events included a reading of The Fountain of Fair Fortune as well as speeches thanking the publishers and editors from throughout her career.

The first person I spoke to actually approached me. He was an older man who leaned in conspiratorially to whisper, "She's not just a good writer, she's also quite sexy." Some recurring descriptions of the evening included "fantastic" and "a whole lot of fun." One woman who worked with JK Rowling for awhile at the MS Society said that it was "lovely," and stayed to chat with me, Dinah Russell, and Emma Jamieson for a bit as we waited to catch a glimpse of Jo herself.

An adorable older couple told me that they got their copies of Beedle the Bard signed for their grandchildren, and let me photograph the signature page.
Eventually some of the National Library of Scotland employees took pity on us and sneaked us into the building to stand near the doors where it was warm and we could see what was happening inside. I think they found us "fangirls" something of a novelty really.

Both Dinah and I were wearing our Harry Potter Alliance shirts, and as Jo exited the building she noticed them and gave the three of us as a smile and a wave! Also in attendance were Ian Rankin, Matthew Lewis, Devon Murray, and Evanna Lynch. I introduced myself to Evanna as "Christie from MuggleNet." She lit up at the sound of the site, and told me that the event was amazing and "it's always so nice to hear her reading."

She said that it was more personal to hear Jo reading her own work, and that she was "really impressed with the fairy tales." We chatted about how moral the stories are, and Evanna was kind enough to humor us by letting us take some photos together.

All in all, a very successful and incredible experience!
