Speculation, speculation
Keith Olbermann has made some bold public predictions about the end of the series on his TV news show, Countdown with Keith Olbermann. Make sure you read the second page of the article before making judgment. It is my personal belief, and not necessarily that of the rest of the MuggleNet staff, that he is not far off the mark in his guesses. Except for that whole Harry turning into a Muggle business. I mean, really?
In other news, Scholastic has published the results of their fourth fan poll question. They claim a majority of fans - 56% - believe that Harry will end up with Hermione, 20% believe that Ron will end up with Hermione and 19% believe that Harry will end up with Ginny.
Um, was Scholastic polling people who have actually read the books? 56% of fans are wrong. I quote JKR, in the interview Melissa and I conducted with her two summers ago:
JK Rowling: Yes, we do now know that it's Ron and Hermione. I do feel that I have dropped heavy hints. ANVIL-sized, actually, hints, prior to this point. I certainly think even if subtle clues hadn't been picked up by the end of Azkaban, that by the time we hit Krum in Goblet...
I would think it's difficult to interpret "Yes, we do now know that it's Ron and Hermione" and "anvil-sized hints" any other way, but apparently 56% of fans disagree with me (or just haven't read the interview... or Book 6... or Book 5... or Book 4...). But then, many fans still believe Dumbledore is alive, despite JK Rowling saying that he is "definitely dead." Come on, guys. Wishful thinking isn't going to bring him back.
Note that the question wasn't Who Do You Want to End Up With Whom?, but Who Will End Up With Whom?. There's a difference between wanting something to be true, and believing it is true. There is a word in the English dictionary for holding a belief without evidence, and in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary... I'll give you a hint, it starts with a D.
UPDATE: I don't know if I can make this any clearer, but I will try one more time.
I am not calling all Harry/Hermione shippers delusional! I respect H/Hr shippers who acknowledge the obvious: that JKR paired up Ron and Hermione, but wish she hadn't. The only people I am calling delusional are the shippers who try to wriggle and rationalize their way around "Yes, we do now know that it's Ron and Hermione" and still believe the two will make babies in Book 7. Right, because JKR was lying to us? HOPING is different from BELIEVING!

This is ridiculous. Why do people even think Harry and Hermione make a good couple? Based on looks? Seriously, if the writer herself is saying it's not going to happen, it's not going to happen. People need to get over it.

I honsetly think it was a protest vote. So many fans think H/G sucks. Really...there are a LOT of people out there who think it was horribly written. This was their way of sticking it to H/Gers. They probably do not really think it will wind up H/Hr, but they had to make a statement against H/G. Besides, it's kind of hypocritical to say it someone can't like H/Hr because of the interview, when so many people here are syaing they want Neville/Luna, and Jo sunk that on her site.
No matter how much people say it, some H/Hr shippers just don't want to believe that Ron and Hermione are going to end up together. Even after the seventh book comes out, no matter what happens, they'll still believe that Harry and Hermione will be together. But on the other topic at hand, I think Keith Olbermann ended that article quite well. I will most certainly be putting it on my favorites list and going back to look at the "alternative" ending over and over again.
emerson, i completely agree. i thought the exact same thing after reading the poll results! i was like, what?!?? i read the one mugglenet theory book w/ the interview, and there's no way around what jo says. i mean, they are her books! besides, i think hermoine and ron make a better couple than her and harry. also, i hope harry and ginny get back together!!
I think the reason people still think it's H/Hr is because of the movies. While the books have anvil-sized hints, the movies seem to make the H/Hr 'ship much more believable, even expected. Had they not made the movies, I don't think there would be nearly as many H/Hr shippers out there.
Hearts, Emerson! I love his posts. mrshand: I think that the movies portray a very strong friendship between Harry and Hermione, and a sort of tension between Ron and Hermione (but a good kind of tension). I think the movies also point to its being R/Hr, but I can see why people would interpret it differently than I do. But honestly, after book six, how can people still believe that there will be a suprise H/Hr ending to book seven. Come on, Harry Potter isn't about the ships! I don't care who gets with who, personally (as long as R/Hr doesn't sink, teehee). Some people are too interested in shipping to actually participate in the good stuff, like actual theory-making. You don't see the Horcruxes causing such a debate. And, don't get me wrong. I respect H/Hr shippers who have acepted the truth, and moved on. But to those delusional one who keep pushing it, grow up!
"How thick can you get?" (Quote from Ron in CoS movie).
Yeah right...and when Harry and Hermione DONT end up together im gonna laugh at all their delusional faces. How could you have read any of the past three books and STILL believe that?
Hi i just wanted to say that I am a H/Hr shipper and have been since book 1, just because I've always liked then together! Im not going to stop shipping HHr because of this. I've been a fan(OBSESSED!!!) of HP since 2001, before movie1 came out so HHr shippers are not the ones who only watch the movies they read the books too you know...Besides it's not like I Hate R/Hr...I CAN stand that!;)...what I don't like is Harry and Ginny, I just don't like it!!! ARRRgggRR !:P Come one let us have fun!! What if there're more H/Hr shippers than R/Hr..?? If R/Hr is the one that will happen at the end it doesnt matter if there are more H/Hr than R/Hr! Well I don't care if Harry/Hermione doesnt happen! H/Hr will always be my ship :D greetings a harmony shipper :)
OK. i think that R.A.B is two people...everyone seems past R.A.B...anyway, the R is someones first or last initial, the A is for and, and the B is for someones first or last initial...and one of them was underaged...obviously...m y other theory is that Voldemort will kill Ginny and Luna (i believe in Ginny/Harry and Neville/Luna, btw lol as well as Ron/Hermione) and Harry and Neville will kill Voldemort with the power of love. Of course, since I'm the 700th commenter (unless someone else commented, but i'm like the 700th commenter) i doubt anyone will read my awesome theories. LOL. But I DID watch this and i couldnt stop staring at the T.V. :P. anyway, i didnt like any of his theories, not really. And no, I doubt R.A.B is Rodolphus and Bellatrix.
I knew that all along, but it was well said!
i saw the keith olberman thing...i don't think the first guess will be true (at least i hope not). but i like the second one, i though it was very funny, with the soprano-esque ending. lol. but with the poll, seriously, who cares what some stupid poll says. if they haven't read the interviews, they haven't read them. really, who cares? and did anyone see on the Colbert Report, when he "spoiled" the ending, and hermione is a boy and voldemort is harry's dad from the past.
For those who did not know, R.A.B is Sirus's brother... Regulus A( don't Remember the a) Black
NBA DRAFT IS TODAY GO DURANT!
Wow... Ok... Harry-Ginny (assuming they both live) hermione-Ron... that's all there is 2 it... Oh yeah and Dumbledore's dead! ALSO i liked this guys theories but i don't like the idea of harry ending up with that huge sacrifice! That would totally SUCK! I think harry should be alowwed to keep his magical powers! if that was how it ends then i will be 1 sad kid... I don't think i'll be able 2 bear it if harry doesn't live happily ever after, although it isn't a disney book so...
I would like 2 add 1 word... Delusional!
I would like 2 add 1 word... moonywormtaipadfootprongs is Delusional! oops that was 3
why are people still commenting here?? btw, rob15, i agree with u, Durant is better than oden by the mile!!!
ppl r NOT, i tell u, NOT going to stop seeing the movies just bcuz they already know whats going to happen. i read goblet of fire and prisoner of azkaban at least thirty times b4 i went to see the movies and i STILL cried my head off when buckbeak and cedric died. and jkr will always b the greatest author in history even if she loses money (which she will NOT) when (if) harry dies.
Actually, Rockstar Girl, I beg to differ. I'm a huge Harry Potter fan, but I love the books so much more than the movies. If something happened in Book 7 that I didn't like/agree with (such as... Harry dying or becoming a muggle... darn you Keith Olbermann!!!), I would have to think long and hard about seeing the last two movies. I might catch them on DVD, but I doubt I'd arrange for a babysitter and spend the money to see them in the theaters. Why should I spend close to $60 (when factoring in babysitter cost, food and tickets) for my husband and I to see a movie when I know I won't like the ending? However, it is Rowling's work and she already has more money than God... so who's to say she won't risk fan's wrath?
hey Gatorgirlie: Go LONGHORNS! They'd beat the GATORS any day.
Buckbeak is still alive. His new name is Witherwings in case the Ministry decides to waste their time on that whole case again. And the A in RAB stands for Arcturus. I think Isabel Nunes, the Portuguese translator, confirmed this after an interview with Jo some months ago.
I want to marry Emerson.
i dont get this at all. can somebody explain this to me? so this is good or bad?
I dont think that Ron and Hermione are definitally going to end up together because it is totally probable that one of them wont even survive book 7. All JK said was that "its Ron and Hermione". Not that it will be.
Although its obvious book-wise that its going to be R/H. Did anyone consider that the people who voted on this poll were movie!Fans rather than book!Fans? Based on that assumption, I could see how people might be voting for H/H (as they appear to have more chemistry together in the movie). But then again, if that's not true. I have no idea as to how they could have voted H/H over R/H. (I mean, you'd have to be blind and dumb to miss that)
ahhh how cute they should fer sure date!!!!!!!!!!! but then again they wouldnt make a cute couple hermonies like DROP DEAD SEXY and ron hmm not so much. ha sucka.
Pretty pathetic that people are so...er...adamant to see Harry and Hermione together. I used to be a H/Hr shipper, but it became waaaay too obvious after the fourth book came out, so I changed my opinion just like that. I would've liked to see them together, but, hey, it IS J.K.R's book, afterall, and she should be able to do what she likes with her series.
It must be people who only watch the movies. Maybe even only the first movie or so, because back then it wasn't as obvious, and the movie people seemed to have built a little false chemistry between Harry and Hermione. Still, even the fourth MOVIE pretty much dashed that against the rocks. If they can't see by now how wrong they are...-coughDELUSIONALcou gh- Emerson's post made me laugh though. xD
god...how can 56%of them still belive that? jo has cleary said it in the 6th series....i can't beileve!
There is one way Harry could end up with Hermione- If the whole Weasley clan kicks the bucket and Ron made Harry swear he'd take care of Hermione forever. And probably Ron and Hermione's unborn child. But then again, maybe that's just the way I'D write it.. ?? I'm looking forward to the whole Ron/Hermione thing though. The BETTER kiss! I don't know how it could be avoided but I'm scared about the whole book right now. I know we probably all are. But anyway, I'm definitely looking forward to that kiss. And I hope it's more passionate than awkward.
*I meant THEY better kiss. Not THE better kiss. Sorry. I had to clear that up. I didn't want a bunch of people mad at me thinking I was saying all Harry's kisses aren't that great or something. :/ We all know Harry's an awesome kisser. ;) Just ask Ginny.
I've just checked that particular poll again. Instead of 56%, it's now 73%. Wow. Some people are idiots.
