Speculation, speculation
Speculation, speculation WARNING: This is a very opinionated post!

Keith Olbermann has made some bold public predictions about the end of the series on his TV news show, Countdown with Keith Olbermann. Make sure you read the second page of the article before making judgment. It is my personal belief, and not necessarily that of the rest of the MuggleNet staff, that he is not far off the mark in his guesses. Except for that whole Harry turning into a Muggle business. I mean, really?

In other news, Scholastic has published the results of their fourth fan poll question. They claim a majority of fans - 56% - believe that Harry will end up with Hermione, 20% believe that Ron will end up with Hermione and 19% believe that Harry will end up with Ginny.

Um, was Scholastic polling people who have actually read the books? 56% of fans are wrong. I quote JKR, in the interview Melissa and I conducted with her two summers ago:

JK Rowling: Yes, we do now know that it's Ron and Hermione. I do feel that I have dropped heavy hints. ANVIL-sized, actually, hints, prior to this point. I certainly think even if subtle clues hadn't been picked up by the end of Azkaban, that by the time we hit Krum in Goblet...

I would think it's difficult to interpret "Yes, we do now know that it's Ron and Hermione" and "anvil-sized hints" any other way, but apparently 56% of fans disagree with me (or just haven't read the interview... or Book 6... or Book 5... or Book 4...). But then, many fans still believe Dumbledore is alive, despite JK Rowling saying that he is "definitely dead." Come on, guys. Wishful thinking isn't going to bring him back.

Note that the question wasn't Who Do You Want to End Up With Whom?, but Who Will End Up With Whom?. There's a difference between wanting something to be true, and believing it is true. There is a word in the English dictionary for holding a belief without evidence, and in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary... I'll give you a hint, it starts with a D.

UPDATE: I don't know if I can make this any clearer, but I will try one more time.

I am not calling all Harry/Hermione shippers delusional! I respect H/Hr shippers who acknowledge the obvious: that JKR paired up Ron and Hermione, but wish she hadn't. The only people I am calling delusional are the shippers who try to wriggle and rationalize their way around "Yes, we do now know that it's Ron and Hermione" and still believe the two will make babies in Book 7. Right, because JKR was lying to us? HOPING is different from BELIEVING!

Umm. I don't know how much weight we should place on that guys speculation when he thinks the basilisk is a horcrux: "He can store the parts of the soul in objects, or, as seen in an earlier book, in a living thing, the big snake in the basement."

Posted by Sarahluna Jun 26th 2007

Also: someone should rip out the last 11 pages of DH in a friend's copy and then leave a note where they can find them. Hahahahaha. I would laugh. So hard.

Posted by pacifickay Jun 26th 2007

*after reading at laughing for a million years* Oh, Emerson, lol, I love you. Really. :)

Posted by ginerva_weasley Jun 26th 2007

Finally, Emerson, you've intervened! Honestly, you'd think that after two years those H/Hr shippers would give up! Their so delusional, some are still spouting the nonsense the call "evidence". It's all pre-book 4. And as for the whole "Dumbledore is dead thing", I'm surprised at how many people still haven't realised that he's not coming back. I was walking out of B&N yesterday wearing my "Dumbledore Dies on Page 596" shirt of course, and some crazed 8 year old starts telling me how he's not really dead and how it was really Aberforth up there, and that was why Jo only said "Dumbledore" instead of "Albus".

Posted by phoenixlament Jun 26th 2007

Oh my, I believe he's right. What a great way to end the story...and very heroic. It gave me shivers to just think about...wow. But I think Keith Olbermann hit the mark quite well.

Posted by sectumsempraa Jun 26th 2007

so i've gotta say, i must agree with olbermann. he's got some great ideas. i just think the whole harry not being a wizard sounds too much like every fanfic i've ever read. =/

Posted by YummySocks Jun 26th 2007

I dont think Joe would be influenced by the money plus she came up with the ending before any of the money :) Oh and ournewcelebrity's comment made me laugh

Posted by ruffians Jun 26th 2007

ahaha Emerson, you're adorable

Posted by Baba Jun 26th 2007

Emerson apparently you fall in that catergory also... In your recent book you say Neville/Luna was going to happen. Ehh... Jk Rowling, denied the possiblity of that happening years ago so.

Posted by FaeVerte Jun 26th 2007

lol Emerson. Let the d word go already, it doesn't bother us anymore. Anyway, that 56% got there because of a spam-bot. Not overwhelming voters. Which doesn't make H/Hr shippers look any better, but there are stupid people out there.

Posted by loona Jun 26th 2007

Although I don't believe the Harry or his scar is a horcrux theory, it was a good read. LMAO@the Sopranos ending!

Posted by mzpeaches Jun 26th 2007

oh please, harry/hermione shippers are the most delusional fans in the history of history. i mean seriously, you would think that they would get the hint especially after book 6 =/ as for the article, i think its entirely plausible. plus it would be something that harry i would think would want. to be someone like any of us. normal and happy and perfectly content with their life as it is. no one trying to kill him or anyone talking bad about him in the press and not being famous to anyone in the muggle world. he'll be a normal, average person, like any of us. and i think thats what makes this series so special. the fact that we all can relate to him. so what if he's just a muggle in the end. it would be a good ending. that and ron/hermione and harry/ginny having some cute kids =]

Posted by saveginny417 Jun 26th 2007

Delusional! HA! you're so right, Emerson. who were they polling anyway?

Posted by Nny_ Jun 26th 2007

:D:D:D!!!! Emerson cracks me up.

Posted by ohsomagical_em Jun 26th 2007

lolz about the H/Hr thingy, its totally R/Hr, i can't believe 56% of people thought that!!!! about that other article.....i don't really get all of it....i mean i kind of get what hes saying, but not all of it....hhhmmmm?!?!?! XX XXXXXXXem

Posted by DanielRadcliffeIsSEXY Jun 26th 2007

Harrypotterqueen10: I've read the books a billion times, yet I still believe that Harry will be with either Ginny or Hermione. Now that I've come up with a new theory (Hermione dies protecting Ron), it's about 87.5% likely that it's Harry and Ginny.

Posted by rob15 Jun 26th 2007

maybe Ginny doesn't accompany Harry on his quest to destroy the horcruxes so their relationship falls apart and at the end ron may die which brings Harry and Hermione together.

Posted by harrypotterqueen10 Jun 26th 2007

-re-reads post- Emerson is right people! ALL H/H SHIPPERS THAT HAVE ***NOT*** READ THE BOOKS U NEED 2 GO 2 THE STORE NOW AND BUY THEM SO U CAN GET A CLEAR UNDERSTANDING!!! and for the people that believe dumbledore is still alive....READ THE END OF THE 6TH BOOK!!! seriously.....also look up interviews with J.K. and realize that he ain't coming back! T_T

Posted by Sarahc5 Jun 26th 2007

Wow I cannot believe that anyone truly believes that Harry and Hermione will end up together after these last couple of books. I think people must have been deliberately answering wrong, maybe they figured out how to answer them more than once. Plus, I think most of the people who bother answering those polls are pretty big fans (like me!) and as a big fan, I feel like it's impossible to think H/Hr will be together after reading the books.

Posted by dumbledoreswoolnsox_22 Jun 26th 2007

Ron/ Hermione all the way! Emerson is just awesome. And I'm about to read the predictions....

Posted by mweasley721 Jun 26th 2007

Yaaaay, Emerson! :) The only thing that bugged me about Keith's stuff was that he said (inadvertently, I'm sure) that the BASILISK was the horcrux. And... unless there's another great suprise in store, the basilisk isn't a horcrux.

Posted by Dobby4ever Jun 26th 2007

Lots of Harry/Hermione shippers voting there, no doubt in that. I agree, there's a difference between wanting things to be true, and believing they're true. I my self believe that it will be Ron/Hermione and Harry/Hinny, and I have never doubted it.. at least not since I started going to Mugglenet. When I was a kid I wanted Harry and Hermione to be together, but that was a long time ago, when I had only read book 1 and 2. I totally believe that DD is dead. How could he have survived the killing curse? - don't say:'Harry did!' becuase that was because Harry's mother sacrifised herself for Harry. and noone sacrifised (as far as we know) her/himself for DD. And Jo said that DD was definetly dead.

Posted by Gryffindork Jun 26th 2007

you guys are too hopeful *shakes head with dismay* if you can't see RON AND HERMIONE when it's written everywhere, i really want to know how you can actually read things on this site.

Posted by mzpeaches Jun 26th 2007

to the people that think that ron and ginny will die in the end and the ss harmony will set sail into the sunset, really T_T. GET A CLUE!

Posted by Quiscalus Jun 26th 2007

LMAO!!!! I LOVE YOU EMERSON! Well said, Emerson. YAY FOR ANVILS!

Posted by rob15 Jun 26th 2007

I think HarryPotterQueen10 is losing her mind and "barking mad"

Posted by kaze_ Jun 26th 2007

I don't mind if people still ship Harry/Hermione, even though it'll never be canon. Heck, I even ship *Harry/Draco*. People are forgetting that shipping is about loving a certain pairing, not loving AND firmly believing it will be canon someday. But it DOES irritate me greatly when H/Hr shippers keep on insisting that it's canon and that Jo is wrong. I agree that writers *can* write their characters OOC... but Ron/Hermione is not OOC at all, and it has never been. H/Hr *is* OOC, however. (But if you can make it work in fanfiction... more power to you!) Anyway, regarding Olbermann's theory... I don't think Jo cares about the money, really. If she wants to kill him off, if she feels that that is the correct thing to do, then she'll do it, regardless of what fans think. I think Olbermann's theory of Harry giving up his being a wizard is very interesting. I hadn't thought of that at all. I wonder, though, how would one give up magic, when it's in your blood?

Posted by tonksinlimegreenflipflops Jun 26th 2007

emerson, this is why i love you.

Posted by DanielRadcliffeIsSEXY Jun 26th 2007

Harrypotterqueen10: Remember in the end of HBP, Harry told Ginny that he didn't want to be with her anymore? So that proves that Harry has a 50% chance of being with either.

Posted by Mrs_Diggory Jun 26th 2007

Hahahhaa - I love Emerson. Just for his cockiness and the fact that he doesn't care that he's being rude to H/Hr shippers! In all seriousness - 56% believe it's H/Hr? So that's saying 56% of the HP Fan population haven't read the books at all?

Posted by Gryffindork Jun 26th 2007

If harrypotterqueen10 is "barking mad," i'd hate to see what you are

Posted by CityDreamT Jun 26th 2007

Umm wow. That's pretty sad that 56% of Harry Potter "fans" haven't actually read the books. ;] But yes it will definatly be Ron && Hermione, and I will be laughing very very hard on July 21st when that happens. Hahh.

Posted by rob15 Jun 26th 2007

hey dork, i think your losing your head too

Posted by Hannah_Montana Jun 26th 2007

Hmm... I sorta listened to that Kieth Oberman thing while my dad was watchin it on the tv... didn't see it tho as I was in another room. He sounded like he was just making fun of the whole thing tho. Anyway... not this "delusional" thing again. Why even bring it up Emerson, really? Everyone will know the truth in less than a month anyway. And the sad thing is, there will still be people who believe it's H/Hr. Leave the shipping debate alone.

Posted by maki Jun 26th 2007

really hhr shippers should get over it...

Posted by RyAn2006 Jun 26th 2007

I wonder if its possible that the theory of Jo only saying "Dumbledore" and not "Albus is dead" could materialise??? It would be fantastic in my opinion if this was the case...I do believe though that Aberforth has a role or if theory is right has *had* a role in Dumbledores plans...hes been a recurring character who we never have really got to meet and know which leaves the door wide open! Its something we have to come to expect from Jo!

Posted by deatheater777 Jun 26th 2007

Wow that video was amazing, but I dont like the idea that in order to kill voldemort, Harry has to lose his powers. But it brings up a point to me. What if Harry was a Squib, and that night he was made a Horcrux, gave him magical powers. I honestly would hate the story to end that way, but Jo has to do what she has to do.

Posted by Gryffindork Jun 26th 2007

i'd rather lose my head than believe h/hr.................... let's not forget kreacher now, either.

Posted by rob15 Jun 26th 2007

chill out man, just a theory that i thought of

Posted by hyogoetophile Jun 26th 2007

Emerson, no!!! Get your condiments ready, because you're going to eat those words about Dumbledore being dead-dead (cause he's not).

Posted by harrypotterqueen10 Jun 26th 2007

DanielRadcliffeIsSEXY.... .i mean after what happened at the end of the 6th book with H/G it i obvious they had feelings for each other.....but never has J.K. said about Harry having any types of feelsing for hermione. Harry started feeling funny whenever he saw ginny so in the end it was obvious that they would be coupled. Hermione was never in the pic. now i understand that H/G broke up because of Harry's destiny but it is HIGHLY doubtful that H/H will happen....and no one knows who will die and who will stay. We can only guess now. R/H has been the main "it's so obvious they like each other" couple -coughLAVENDARBROWN/VIKOR KRUMCONFLICTcough-. THIS IS WHAT I AM TRYING TO SAY!...... R/H IS TRUE H/H **IS NOT** H/G IS TRUE H/H **IS NOT** ok....im done ranting.....

Posted by lockedinhogwartz Jun 26th 2007

I loved Keith Olbermann's newcast. Its even funnier if you watch the video: I know it hasn't been posted yet, because it still only has 200 views, so check it out! On the Harry/Hermione thing, I think it has to be Scholastic polling 8 year olds. I can't believe that that number of readers would truly believe that...

Posted by DanielRadcliffeIsSEXY Jun 26th 2007

Emerson Spartz, please read this!!!!!!!!!!! Delusional is not a very nice thing to call me or the other H/Hr shippers. I am one of the few, the proud, and the equally-"HP-Loving-as-Hr/ R-Shipper" Harry/Hermione shippers on Mugglenet, and treating us like that is like calling us Mudbloods. You are saying that we H/Hr shippers are stupid, while everyone else is better than us. That's pureblooded Slytherin insultation right there. Thank you for your time, DanielRadcliffeIsSexy and the rest of the Harry/Hermione shippers on Mugglenet.

Posted by Lorcan_Patrick_McCarthy Jun 26th 2007

Nah, I think we're all wrong and JKR's tricking us...HG/SS, there we go!!! The perfect one, such great signs and obvious love! ......and, anyone who honestly believes that is as delusional as a H/Hr shipper. Honestly, has Jo dropped anvil sized hints ONTO your heads rather than just drop them? R/Hr offers a lot of parallels if you think about it, the pureblooded wizard and Muggleborn witch in love, a hint of Romeo/Juliet, blah blah blah......and Olbermann's predictions are pretty decent, really, considering all the BS so many media people put out. I agree with him, actually, although I believe it may be magic, someone Harry loves dearly, or a deeply-held belief. After all, defeating evil doesn't come without a price of some kind.

Posted by Padfootspatronus Jun 26th 2007

D-elusional..... I'm so tired of this Harry Hermione coupling. I don't know how people have gotten these ideas in their heads...even the people who just watch the films; who don't read the books or the interviews...because the movies don't give any sign of Harry on Hermione being together either. It's just getting old.

DENIAL!!!! hahahhaahahha that was BYFAR the BEST mugglenet post! hahahha. yeah my ap world teacher thinks that dumbledore ISNT dead, and tthat JK is trying to "throw the readers off" i kept debating that with him..obviously he IS DEAD. maybe thats why i didnt get an A.... :]

Posted by CFplayer19 Jun 26th 2007

it didnt even read the interview they had with JK and i still never thought harry and hermione! it is soo ron/hermione! and whats with harry and ginny being only 19%?.......r these people serious?.......people, i just dont get!

Posted by harrypotterqueen10 Jun 26th 2007

rob15.....sry i had a spazz moment....but also if u r a H/H sipper then your the one who is "barking mad"....im sry i just don't see how anyone can believe that it is true! and Gryffindork...thank you again....i like support!
