Speculation, speculation
Keith Olbermann has made some bold public predictions about the end of the series on his TV news show, Countdown with Keith Olbermann. Make sure you read the second page of the article before making judgment. It is my personal belief, and not necessarily that of the rest of the MuggleNet staff, that he is not far off the mark in his guesses. Except for that whole Harry turning into a Muggle business. I mean, really?
In other news, Scholastic has published the results of their fourth fan poll question. They claim a majority of fans - 56% - believe that Harry will end up with Hermione, 20% believe that Ron will end up with Hermione and 19% believe that Harry will end up with Ginny.
Um, was Scholastic polling people who have actually read the books? 56% of fans are wrong. I quote JKR, in the interview Melissa and I conducted with her two summers ago:
JK Rowling: Yes, we do now know that it's Ron and Hermione. I do feel that I have dropped heavy hints. ANVIL-sized, actually, hints, prior to this point. I certainly think even if subtle clues hadn't been picked up by the end of Azkaban, that by the time we hit Krum in Goblet...
I would think it's difficult to interpret "Yes, we do now know that it's Ron and Hermione" and "anvil-sized hints" any other way, but apparently 56% of fans disagree with me (or just haven't read the interview... or Book 6... or Book 5... or Book 4...). But then, many fans still believe Dumbledore is alive, despite JK Rowling saying that he is "definitely dead." Come on, guys. Wishful thinking isn't going to bring him back.
Note that the question wasn't Who Do You Want to End Up With Whom?, but Who Will End Up With Whom?. There's a difference between wanting something to be true, and believing it is true. There is a word in the English dictionary for holding a belief without evidence, and in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary... I'll give you a hint, it starts with a D.
UPDATE: I don't know if I can make this any clearer, but I will try one more time.
I am not calling all Harry/Hermione shippers delusional! I respect H/Hr shippers who acknowledge the obvious: that JKR paired up Ron and Hermione, but wish she hadn't. The only people I am calling delusional are the shippers who try to wriggle and rationalize their way around "Yes, we do now know that it's Ron and Hermione" and still believe the two will make babies in Book 7. Right, because JKR was lying to us? HOPING is different from BELIEVING!

Hee, you rule Emerson. Geez only 24 days left. *flails*
It's so sad how people get so frustrated and hyped up over shipping. It's just a part of the story, and I can't believe how some just call others delusional all the time (as if we haven't heard that word a thousand times already >_>). Personally, I think it's kind of pathetic... not obsessing over it all, I mean, but splitting the fandom in half like that, and acting as if the people that think otherwise are just crazy. Did you forget this is a HARRY POTTER fansite?
I was talking about...D...DAMNATION!
YAY! The first part was submitted by me about Keith Olbermann! =] But i'm not mentioned.....ah well. Makes me happy. Now I do admit I USED to be a shipper for H/Hr, however, that died after book four or so. And yeah, that's kinda stupid of "fans" to vote 56% for H/Hr when JKR HERSELF has said that it's certainly R/Hr. I mean, honestly.
Emerson, You crack me up.
LOL, D for "Delusional"...that was Emerson's favorite word during the JKR interview.
Emerson...you do realize that those 56% were just trying to psst you off. hehe
I think there's some credit to Olbermann's theory. It stands better with me than Harry dying. It would be sad for him of course not to have magic and he'd have to reconsider his career prospects but it wouldn't necessarily mean the end of the wizarding world for him. He'd always have Ron and Hermione and Ginny and the rest of the Weasleys wouldn't he? Muggles marry into wizarding families all the time ;). And imagine the boost to muggle relations with the famous Harry Potter as a muggle! I like it; it's growing on me.
"There is a word in the English dictionary for holding a belief without evidence, and in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary..." *cough* sounds oddly like... something else... I won't go there. But yeah, seriously, if people *actually* believe Harry and Hermione will end up together... I can understand not completely seeing it for some of the books, but the 6th was glaring R/Hr and H/G. Harry goes nuts with jealousy over the Ginny/Dean thing, and Hermione as well with the Ron/Lavender... so that pretty much kills any other shipping. But for all those H/Hr fans, there's still fanfiction!
I love love love Emerson's post. He is the best!!
its not about being a HHR shipper PEOPLE!!! is about believing that it will actually happen and think it is a canon ship when it is not!! there's nothing wrong on shipping but leave that couple to fanfics and if it DOES happen for any reason (like ginny and ron dying) then FINE! but for now its RHR and HG....
DanielRadcliffeIsSEXY.... OK WE GET IT!!!! THATS YOUR OPINION AND YOUR STICKING 2 IT BUT YOU DON'T HAVE 2 GO ALL SPAZZTIC!!!! GET AHOLD OF YOURSELF!
Emerson Spartz, please read this!!!!!!!!!!! Delusional is not a very nice thing to call me or the other H/Hr shippers. I am one of the few, the proud, and the equally-"HP-Loving-as-Hr/ R-Shipper" Harry/Hermione shippers on Mugglenet, and treating us like that is like calling us Mudbloods. You are saying that we H/Hr shippers are stupid, while everyone else is better than us. That's pureblooded Slytherin insultation right there. Thank you for your time, DanielRadcliffeIsSexy and the rest of the Harry/Hermione shippers on Mugglenet.
Keith Olbermann is a hack. He is dumb beyond belif, okay well I don't know him but in his review of Beauty and the Beast (the ONLY animated film to be nominated for Best Picture in the history of the Academy Awards) he said it "lacked Disney magic." In his more recent review of Ratatouille he faulted the movie for not having really famous people voicing the characters. WTF?
WHO THE F#$% IS EMERSON???!!!!! And about that H/HR theory i wrote earlier; i only wrote it b/c it was a really good one, i didn't even read the article that everyone is arguing about.
Hmm. Well, I'm a confessed DELUSIONAL HarryxHermione shipper. However, I'm not stupid. Much as I love Harry/Hermione, I have to admit that Ron/Hermione is inevitable. I voted R&H. I accept R&H. I guess that not all H/Hr shippers are delusional, we're not stupid, we're not even hoping for them to get together - we just like the ship. We've all read the books countless times, read the interview. Don't diss H/Hr shippers! ;'] Just kidding. But yeah. Hmm. *strokes chin*. Interesting. You know, people wanting to believe that Dumbledore is alive are different to those who ACTUALLY believe. People that would like Harry & Hermione together are different to people who actually think they will. Not everyone likes Peter Parker/MJ. Are they delusional? NO. They have opinions. Emerson has opinions. Rather than just agreeing with whatever Emerson says (he's totally, completely awesome, don't get me wrong), at least bring up DIFFERENT points than what he says. Have your own opinions. Please, this is getting tiring.
"There is a word in the English dictionary for holding a belief without evidence, and in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary... I'll give you a hint, it starts with a D." Posted by Emerson on Jun 26th | 115 Comments Rob15.....does that help?!
DELUSIONAL!!! Really, whatever JK says, goes. It's just that simple. Loved the post. : )
I was a H/H shipper until the fifth book... HAHAHA Emerson, I LOVE you.
I completely agree with DanielRadcliffeIsSEXY. Who cares if someone wants to ship Harry/Hermione, it's their choice and it doesn't do any damage to anyone else. So why then do we have all of these people calling us idiots and delusional? It just doesn't make any sense, plus it's completely rude. I don't know why people are making such a big fuss about the results of a poll....it's just ridiculous and it should not be a reason to start hating on H/Hr shippers.
*mouths drops open in horror and amazement* Emerson, darling, I'm beginning to agree with you; there are definetly some VERY delusional people. And ignorant, and stupid, and unwilling to see what's right in front of them. Ron and Hermione are going to be together, and Dumbledore's dead (I think he's a phoenix, but I may be wrong) but I know that he's not coming back, offering Lemon Drops. Note: I didn't actually read the article; I just hope JKR doesn't kill off Harry. *sniffle*
Ameeface : totally right!
I'd like to correct my mistake, it was not Keith Olbermann's reviews I was talking about I have like 30 tabs open and I got confused. Sorry.
Wow, I've been laughing my head off at some of these comments. Ournewcelebrity, that was the funniest thing I've read today. H/Hr shippers, most of you are alright, except the ones who claim that Jo was lying and that H/Hr is canon. I mean really, romance isn't even that big of a part of the book. Olbermann's predictions were interesting, and I agree with some of the things. Some of them were a bit...interesting to say the least.
"Pureblooded slytherin insultation..." said not just once, but over and over....Uh, Emerson? Wall of Shame nominee? I think if you are going to argue your point, you should at least argue it well.
Emerson Spartz, please read this!!!!!!!!!!! Delusional is not a very nice thing to call me or the other H/Hr shippers. Thank you for your time, DanielRadcliffeIsSexy and the rest of the Harry/Hermione shippers on Mugglenet. Anyway, thanks AmeeFace for being a H/Hr shipper too. I like both ships, to tell you the truth. But they both are equally likely.
Everyone, including you harrypotterqueen10 is delusional right now
wow, people are posting like crazy about this! It fired everyone up.
Lol! I love it when Emerson posts. Come on people! Read the books. Read the interviews.
Since Ron's going to die maybe Harry and Hermione will end up together! I mean it is pretty impossible with a family the size of the Wesley's that no one will die. Why not Ron?

Ameeface... I like you. Seriously. It seems that you're one of the few people here that realises that shipping does NOT mean that besides loving the ship, you also firmly believe it is or will be canon. People who believe their ship will be canon, even though Jo denied it - they are the "delusional" ones, and it's not just the H/Hr shippers. I mean, that's not the only ship Jo said was not going to happen, is it? But anyway, Ameeface - thank you. Seriously. (And for those wondering, I'm a total R/Hr shipper.)
rob15.................loo k believe whatever u believe but just know that it is down right not true!..... J.K. comfired it HERSELF about R/H and im surprised that people call themselves HP fans if they don't believe J.K.'s word! but im am done ranting/arguing about it........we all will just have 2 wait until the last book is released and let it REVEAL THE REAL TRUTH! good day mugglenet people! P.S. SHIP R/H!! x3
ok guys jo wouldnt reallly make harry give up his powers. would she? i mean cmon, magic is everything to him basically. and jo wouldnt do that to harry, i do though believe there is a way to remove the scar without killing himself but i dnt think that its by losing his powers, that to me is worse than harry dying! i think that like idk but there is a diff way of removing it. i no it, i just have a feeling its a diff way. but i mean ya . by the way, were not even entirely sure if harry IS a horcrux or not! so i mean im not going to guess on anything or go with anyones theory, im going to just trust jo and wait till the book comes out... but i mean wow... no way can harry lose his powers, that is one thing that imgoing to put off my list. im srry but just it cant be. that it self makes me want to tear up. there just has to be another way. and you guys ok we all know the ppl that voted r idiot,s so y bother talking about them any longer? just let them think wat they want, whent he finale book comes out theyll finally get it through their thick skull that is harry/ginny and hermione/ron.... just some ppl need it spelled out for them. even thought it technically has, but ya just leave those ppl alone and dont waste your breath on them. but ack to harry loosing his powers... there is no way that jo will make him something like a muggle or squib, im sorry but thats harsh,,,, and by the way even if he sacrifices his powers, AT LEAST two people will die, so i mean its not like hell lose his powers and everything will be handy dandy. just, harry potter is such a confusing, yet amazing story.
OMG! stop calling each other delusional!! HHR is a FANON SHIP! ok? I really can't believe this! we're supossed to be one fandom and fight against people like Laura Malloy or whatever her name was and NOT between ourselves! so plz everyone has opinions and we should ALL GET OVER IT...romance, as cute as it is, is not a main plot in Harry Potter....
Well, I do not agree with Keith Olberman's theory. J.K. Rowling would not write a book just to make her producers happy. She is writing the book to complete the story of Harry Potter. She probably does not care if there are poor ticket sales for the 6th and 7th movies. Seriously, I doubt that she could be bought off like that. Furthermore, why can't Harry and Hermione be together? They would be just like Harry's father and mother. J.K. Rowling did say that Harry and Hermione would not be together, but that was a whole two years ago. She could have changed her mind!
I agree with pockletwice. peple are posting like maniacs on heroin. this could get the record for most comments for mugglenet.
yeah i have friends who were into harry/hermione who got quite offended in the dillusional thing, no harm in letting them write such stuff we all know it aint real. Rubbing their noses in it about us being right will only spur them on furthur. Dumbledore isnt in it but hes mentioned in the next book jkr said she was having trouble with dumbledore in book 7 to daniel radcliffe who said "isnt he dead?" she replyed "yes but he's still giving me trouble" Could be he has a portrait in the headmasters office or something.
Okay, we all know that Hermione and Ron, Ginny Harry. We know. Whoever voted was a bit...er not correct. ANYWAYS. Has anyone else read the article from the link concerning Keith Olberman's Harry Potter spoiler thing? I am afraid to read it myself. So, discussion anyone?
D IS FOR DELUSIONAL. I absalutly agree. Seriously, even if JKR never said anything about Ron and Hermione, it's still so obvious. It could not be clearer! I was very very suprised when I read that 56% of the fans think it's Harry and Hermione... That is bad. It's okay to want it to be Harry and Hermione, but to actually honestly think that that is going to happen... Not good.
Ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha. Keith is hilarious. I never watch him, but this article may change my mind. And I'm thinking he may be partially correct about the last Horcrux. If it is Harry's scar (undulating and all) then only the part of magic that was Voldemort will be destroyed. Since Harry was born magical that part will probably remain intact, he won't have to sacrifice all of his powers and he definately won't be a squib. But what do I or anyone really know? And Emerson, I love it when you let your opinion be known. It's obvious that you do not tolerate stupidity lightly. My kind of person! 24 days and counting!
I'm going to say this for the last time: HARRY HAS AN EQUAL CHANCE OF BEING WITH GINNY OR HERMIONE. I PERSONALLY THINK HARRY AND HERMIONE WORKS BEST, BUT I HAVE A THEORY THAT HAS HERMIONE DIE PROTECTING RON. SO IT'S LIKELY THAT HARRY WILL BE WITH GINNY, BUT STILL.....WON'T HARRY BE THE ODD ONE OUT OF THE FAMILY WHO LIVES IN THE BURROW? HE HAS BLACK HAIR AND NO FRECKLES. THE OTHER WEASLEYS DO.
It's a free-for-all. Total synchopated pandamonium! Uh, rob 15, it would be maniacs on speed, not heroin. although that would explain your previous post of everyone being delusional, heroin would certainly do that.
P.S.S. Emerson, u rule!
maki, DanielRadcliffeIsSEXY and kaze_; you all just made my day. Especially you kaze_. I love how you can both be a R/Hr and understand other people's point of view. It really isn't about the ship. It's about the book. I think only the true fans can accept any ship even if they have their own opinions. I'm gonna be happy with the R/Hr pairing, and I'm sure a load of other H/Hr shippers will be. But when you've shipped a pair right from the first book, you're going to stay with that ship. It's just blantantly obvious. You can't expect someone to change their opinions because of 'canon'. Nor can you expect someone to change their opinions because they're yours, or even Emerson's.
Olberman' article expresses almost exactly how book 7 will end.
Can we please stop with all of this delusional stuff. I mean, just because I ship Harry/Hermione doesn't mean that I don't know that the books are most likely going to end up with Hermione and Ron together and I'm sure many other H/Hr fans are like that too.
good day to u too harrypotterqueen10, but in case you are suffering from severe blindness, i would like to tell you once again that i don't actually believe in H/HR it was just a little theory i wrote because it was good, and i wrote it for the sake of argument
I'm thinking it's the parents of little kids mainly participating in the poles...I was pretty surprised to see that result, too (most votes for Harry and Hermione and very few for Harry and Ginny)...weird.
Please, don't start the shipping wars again. It was bad enough two years ago with the whole "delusional" comment! But, yeah, I believe that the ballot is totally rigged. The Harry/Hermione shippers are, well, determined people, I'd say. I guess this can be taken as their "swan song"--their final action, telling us that they won't ever give up on their ship. Even when it'll NEVER happen (no offense, guys).
