Speculation, speculation
Speculation, speculation WARNING: This is a very opinionated post!

Keith Olbermann has made some bold public predictions about the end of the series on his TV news show, Countdown with Keith Olbermann. Make sure you read the second page of the article before making judgment. It is my personal belief, and not necessarily that of the rest of the MuggleNet staff, that he is not far off the mark in his guesses. Except for that whole Harry turning into a Muggle business. I mean, really?

In other news, Scholastic has published the results of their fourth fan poll question. They claim a majority of fans - 56% - believe that Harry will end up with Hermione, 20% believe that Ron will end up with Hermione and 19% believe that Harry will end up with Ginny.

Um, was Scholastic polling people who have actually read the books? 56% of fans are wrong. I quote JKR, in the interview Melissa and I conducted with her two summers ago:

JK Rowling: Yes, we do now know that it's Ron and Hermione. I do feel that I have dropped heavy hints. ANVIL-sized, actually, hints, prior to this point. I certainly think even if subtle clues hadn't been picked up by the end of Azkaban, that by the time we hit Krum in Goblet...

I would think it's difficult to interpret "Yes, we do now know that it's Ron and Hermione" and "anvil-sized hints" any other way, but apparently 56% of fans disagree with me (or just haven't read the interview... or Book 6... or Book 5... or Book 4...). But then, many fans still believe Dumbledore is alive, despite JK Rowling saying that he is "definitely dead." Come on, guys. Wishful thinking isn't going to bring him back.

Note that the question wasn't Who Do You Want to End Up With Whom?, but Who Will End Up With Whom?. There's a difference between wanting something to be true, and believing it is true. There is a word in the English dictionary for holding a belief without evidence, and in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary... I'll give you a hint, it starts with a D.

UPDATE: I don't know if I can make this any clearer, but I will try one more time.

I am not calling all Harry/Hermione shippers delusional! I respect H/Hr shippers who acknowledge the obvious: that JKR paired up Ron and Hermione, but wish she hadn't. The only people I am calling delusional are the shippers who try to wriggle and rationalize their way around "Yes, we do now know that it's Ron and Hermione" and still believe the two will make babies in Book 7. Right, because JKR was lying to us? HOPING is different from BELIEVING!

I know, I can't stand when people say "well it doesn't matter what she says, because so and so is getting together or Dumbledore is alive" I mean hello!!! its her world, what she says does matter whether we like it or not.

“If you go and read the almost unintelligible posting, you will gather rather quickly the guy sure does not sound like he has a clue what a Harry Potter is, let alone access to the greatest literary secret of the moment. But you do not need access. You need to find somebody who has read the first six books.” *raises eyebrow questionably* The movie is coming out July 13th? Ummm… I thought it was coming out the 11th? *singsong voice: Misinformation* “And the sixth movie and seventh? Who is going to go see them if the world has already known for a couple of years that hero has been offed via the Cruciatus curse?” Probably A LOT of people…. Try the whole of the world! And the movies and the films shouldn’t even be compared, beyond what’s missing from the movie, I mean. Gosh…I’m not even going to comment on the rest of the stuff… Very opinionated, you’re right, Emerson. Oh yeah! The “curse” in “Cruciatus Curse” should be capitalized, and should “Horcrux”. And “Butter Beer” is one word. Idiot. Did I say that out loud? Whoops. *snorts with laughter at this guy’s prediction* Oh wow….that is WAY OUT THERE… I think it’s from Pluto. Crazy. Arwen_the_Dark_ Elf: Brilliant comment. 56% of us probably are idiots.

So, that olbermann article was pretty stupid. Have of his arguments are based on financial decisions and we know that JKR could care less about that. This is her story she came up with when she had little money. She's not going to alter it based on money, she's got enough of it. Olbermann is an idiot. In conclusion. She didnt think back in 1991: "Hmmm, i'm poor, but just incase this makes me rich, i'm going to write this novel in a way so that i can continue merchandising and marketing in the future after i'm finished writing" Anyone who listens to olbermann is an idiot.

Posted by elsarocks12 Jun 26th 2007

Oh Emerson, you just changed my life with this post. Honestly, I was reading it and everything I was thinking you said...you took the words right out of my mouth. Thanks you for existing. Basically, you are the greatest EVER.

Posted by Mada Jun 26th 2007

DELUSIONAL

Posted by janegallagher Jun 26th 2007

sounds about right- 56% of people are really really dumb.

Posted by LittleWeasley719 Jun 26th 2007

I totally agree with you Emerson. I was very mad about that poll and thought true fans didn't go to Mugglenet or Leaky. Honestly, the H/Hr shippers will never die....

Posted by Hannah_at_Hogwarts Jun 26th 2007

Question: If those who wish to believe in H/HR should be allowed to do so, why can't those who DON'T believe in H/HR ship be allowed to express their opinions? It's all in the delivery, I personally think a H/HR ship is completely out of the question, but if someone wants to think it, they can go nuts! (No pun intended) But to stand on a soapbox and scream at the top of your lungs stating you believe in a H/HR ship and arguing your point poorly makes you and easy target for someone to call 'delusional'. Sorry to say. Doesn't make it right, just easier.

seriously, rob15 W/E! and sry if i'm a bit dyslexic! -was born with a slight case of dyslexia- SO EXCUSE ME! but that message i wrote up there was for everyone....NOW GOOD DAY! -leaves-

if yall will stop bickering like a bunch of crazy cats, you will notice a new article has just surfaced

Posted by silverphoenix21 Jun 26th 2007

Quote by Emerson:"Um, was Scholastic polling people who have actually read the books?" *cough* delusional *cough* Or maybe they only watched the movies... Olbermann's theory about Harry sacrificing his magic sounds pretty good but I would still hate for it to happen.

Posted by xOphoeniXfeath3r Jun 26th 2007

Wow. 56%? That's...no comment. I have nothing against H/Hr, but...H/Hr is just not as equally likely to happen as R/H. I have much respect for H/Hr shippers, but the fact remains that H/Hr is not going to happen. Jo said so herself, and if that's not good enough proof, then I don't know what is. However, everyone has the right to favor whatever ship they want, wether it's canon or not. And as for Emerson..."delusional" may not be the nicest word...but I don't think he was using it to describe people who like H/Hr, just people who actually believed that it would happen even after Jo said it wouldn't.

Posted by grednforge Jun 26th 2007

haha that's funny. You rock, Emerson.

Posted by Lorcan_Patrick_McCarthy Jun 26th 2007

Good Lord, I wonder if this or a discussion on Snape would get more comments...as obvious as it is that Ron and Hermione get together and ect, romance isn't the main Harry Potter storyline. Jo doesn't write for a romance publisher. Anyways, I'm grounded and must go stock CDs and books for my dad...grounded until after OotP, unfortunately, so I can't go see it right away.

Posted by kaze_ Jun 26th 2007

Ameeface: I completely agree with you. Honestly, I think everyone here who says that H/Hr shippers are delusional... They're the delusional ones. How often do I have to say that shipping does not necessarily mean believing it will be canon? I ship Harry/Draco - does that mean I believe it will be canon? Does that mean I'm delusional? Geez.

Posted by mrssiriusblack Jun 26th 2007

56%??....56%????.... 56%??????????? im sorry but i just cannot get my head around this!! how could 56% of harry potter fans be complete idiots??? im suprised they even had the brains to do the poll!!!! and because these "fans" (personally i dont think we can even call them that!) are so dumb that they beleive harry will end up with hermione, i think i should point out that the word emerson was refering to was DELUSIONAL!!!!!......56%? ???????????????

Posted by Ameeface Jun 26th 2007

Hannah_at_Hogwarts, not every Hr/H shipper argues their opinions poorly. As far as my experience goes, a lot of R/Hr shippers simply copy everything that Emerson says and then add "DELUSIONAL" onto the end. & Yeah, we're allowed to express our opinions. You're allowed to express yours. But when it comes down to it, we're not calling the R/Hr shippers delusional, stupid, or idiots.

i thought you had already left harrypotterqueen10, i'm sorry if you are upset, but i was really into this debating we had going

Misstiff2390, Ameeface: Thank you for agreeing with me

Posted by fhtrkstr101 Jun 26th 2007

I just wrote a paper for my AP English describing my biggest pet peeve and I chose to write about people who thought that Dumbledor was still alive and who thought that Harry and Hermione were going to end up together. These people are delusional.

Posted by Susan14 Jun 26th 2007

Hmm. This isn't exactly news, but oh well. X_x; Kind of an odd post...but man, this newspost is going to enrage a whole lotta people. The fun of the Harry Potter fandom. @____@;

Posted by Nailson Jun 26th 2007

Keith Olbermann seems to be pretty arrogant with his predictions, he seems to think Rowling has written these books based of what ending will make her the most money... I have to say from a money point of view he is right, but I doubt thats where Rowling writes from

Posted by MaverickDog Jun 26th 2007

Why is everyone putting down those who want Harry and Hermione to be together? It may be somewhat of wishful thinking, but it is still possible! J.K. Rowling may have infact changed her mind, or saw it fit to make a love triange. These are all just opinions! Just because you like yours better doesn't mean that you have to insult another person's opinion! Plus, that whole Keith Olberman theory was...... different (in my opinion). Harry's scar may very well be a horcrux, but I dunno about the rest of his theory. He seemed to be coming from a very commercial viewpoint.

Posted by xOphoeniXfeath3r Jun 26th 2007

I only scanned a bit of Keith Olbermann's article...but he spelled "Hallows" wrong and mixed up the Cruciatus Curse with Avada Kedavra. XD

Posted by jazzmaze24 Jun 26th 2007

I love the comments on this board. I really liked the point about having magic in your blood, so how would Harry have that removed? Now to the shipping, which is of course the most fun. I like how one person stated that the interview was two years ago and that Jo could've changed her mind, ah, such a desperate cling to hope. Honestly now, Jo plans details in advance. For God's sake, she's known the ending for ages, you think she's just going to change her mind about who's going to end up with who??? Which, unlike another poster, (I have to disagree) does play a major role in the story, because in essence we're all debating about love. And love, as we all know (hopefully, I mean judging by the poll we might not), is Harry's main strength over Voldemort. So I do believe that this is somewhat important. P.S.-I a hardcore R/HR shipper, and a avid supporter of H/G. Oh, and for those claiming that they are H/Hr shippers and they are not stupid, well the last time I check the word delusional isn't synonymous with that...so, good to know.

Posted by harrypotterqueen10 Jun 26th 2007

well Rob15 i came back 2 yell at you for yelling at me....but now i must really go so good DAY AGAIN!!!! -sighs heavily and leaves-

Posted by DanielRadcliffeIsSEXY Jun 26th 2007

fhtrkstr101: WE ARE NOT DELUSIONAL!!!!!!! MaverickDog: YES! Thank you for saying this!!!

Posted by hollyandphoenixfeather Jun 26th 2007

hahaha DELUSIONAL! Emerson is my hero.

Posted by theoneandonlyniftygreenfish Jun 26th 2007

Yep. Firmly on the Good Ship myself. Remember, folks (wow, I just said 'folks')... the majority is often wrong. After all, Bush WAS elected fairly the second time around. I pity the state of the world. On another note, Emerson is my hero. (:

Posted by SlytherinHalfBloodPrince Jun 26th 2007

Heyy!!!! I did think about that ending, Harry's scar being a Horcrux and Snape helping Harry at the end... but I actually thought Harry would die until reading the article... I like the idea.. harry giving up his powers.... it's great but I can't imagine harry living like a Muggle all his life, sad, but is a way better sacrifice than giving up his life!

Posted by freakishBBQ Jun 26th 2007

I agree!! Thanhk you for saying that, because the fact that Harry/Hermione had the most votes is pathetic!! *bangs head against keyboard* Can't they just accept that they were wrong? JKR said it was Ron/Hermione! How can they condrodict that? And on the message boards the reasons were really sad. They said things like "Crookshanks likes Harry better," and "They always stand up for eachother," WTH? Get a real reason! Alright, I'm done my rant.

Posted by Hannah_at_Hogwarts Jun 26th 2007

ameeface, if you read my post it does not say that I believe ALL H/HR shippers argue their point poorly. Not all do. I actually agree that everyone is entitled to their own opinions about ANY ships in this series. I also stated that it isn't right to call H/HR shippers delusional, it just makes it easier when one argues it poorly. Please, read carefully. I know it's difficult when one is feverishly defending themselves (as evident of ALL the posts on this topic in such a short period.) I respect people to have their own opinions, end of story.

Posted by rob15 Jun 26th 2007

I hope harrypotterqueen10 has REALLY left this time so i can talk behind her back..................... ......................... ......................... ......................... ....jk

Posted by christianaeg Jun 26th 2007

Ya i agree that not all shippers can be described by using Emerson's favorite word, but wow. can some people ever!!! that poll had me laughing my head off! i was hoping emerson would post about it! YAY!

Posted by xOphoeniXfeath3r Jun 26th 2007

Haha, I like the comment about Bush. XD But, like jazzmaze24 said, Jo plans plently of things in advance. She said H/R would happen after HBP was released, just before she started writing DH. She wouldn't say something that she wasn't absolutely sure about, and she had all of DH planned out before she wrote it. So if she said that R/H was inevitable...then it's inevitable.

Posted by jazzmaze24 Jun 26th 2007

DanielRadcliffeIsSEXY, I sorry to sound rude, but that's what the following statement is going to be like, because I can't help it (I tried). I love your comment about Harry: "BUT STILL.....WON'T HARRY BE THE ODD ONE OUT OF THE FAMILY WHO LIVES IN THE BURROW? HE HAS BLACK HAIR AND NO FRECKLES. THE OTHER WEASLEYS DO. " Yes, because so many of us choose our relationships based on how well we match our loved ones' hair.

Posted by MaverickDog Jun 26th 2007

Okay....... Just because Hermione and Ron have a better chance of getting together does not mean that Harry and Hermione could not be together. J.K. Rowling did say that Ron and Hermione would be together, but all books are a work in progress. She may have changed it, but she may have not. There is still nothing wrong for hoping that Harry and Hermione will end up together!

Posted by psychobilly Jun 26th 2007

Why is everyone commenting on the shipping. Who cares. We already know the pairings. Why is everyone arguing. Make a comment about stupid Olbermanns predictions and how he is an idiot for thinking JKR makes harry's decisions based on what will make her the most money.

Posted by rob15 Jun 26th 2007

WILL EVEERYONE CUT IT OUT WITH THE EMERSON TALK!! this is supposed to be about H/HR

Posted by Lannie Jun 26th 2007

Emerson, you make me laugh.

Posted by christianaeg Jun 26th 2007

LOL THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY I LOVE MUGGLENET... i'm gonna get some popcorn and camp out by my computer tonight!!

Posted by SlytherinHalfBloodPrince Jun 26th 2007

Remember that little children are the ones who vote on that polls! Children who like Emma Watson and Dan R. in the movies... not people who actually read the books and analize and understand completely what it is really saying!

Posted by BRiANNAP Jun 26th 2007

yes these people are delusional.. but if you havent noticed, usually people that go on scholastic are 5th graders.. and of course regardless of what JK says they have their mind made up lol.. its a bunch of 10yr olds.. you try to tell them that santa clause and the toothfairy arent real and they say otherwise.. plus even if harry did get with hermione.. ron would never forgive him and they are supposed to be best friends.. AND I HIGHLY DOUBT thats in the last book... and like JK said about in goblet of fire.. harry could give a rats ass if she was with krum unlike ron who was very jealous.... by the way, just to make a funny point.. about how you all are talking about how he needs to drain his blood.. lol he could always get a transfusion hahaha it was a JOKE!

Posted by 1oftheTrio Jun 26th 2007

Scholastic polls are NEVER close to the actual truth. Iv'e seen this with my own four eyes(glasses included) lol. They're always waaaaaaaay off. I really don't think most ppl on that sight have read hardly any of the books.....or we (those who DEVOTE ourselves to the books and the plots) just crazy...pssshhh! Yeah right! lol

Posted by irethmalfoy Jun 26th 2007

did emerson wake up on the wrong side of the bed, or just have a heeping bowl of sarcasm for breakfast?

Posted by xOphoeniXfeath3r Jun 26th 2007

There's nothing wrong with wanting H/Hr to happen; nothing at all! But if you actually think that Harry and Hermione will get together...then I'd say you need to re-read JKR's interviews. She wouldn't have confirmed R/H if she wasn't positive that it would happen.

D-E-N-I-A-L.

Posted by Asabi Jun 26th 2007

I read Keith's little spoiler report...not much of a spoiler if you ask me...and he had a couple of errors, too...oh, well, I don't think you can base whether Harry lives or dies on how many books the franchise will sell in the future...that's not the point. I think we'll just have to wait and see and come Sunday morning on July 22, we'll all know what really happens!

Posted by OMGWTFBBQ Jun 26th 2007

RON AND HERMIONE 4-ever

Posted by Ravenclawswisdom Jun 26th 2007

jazzmaze24, I completely agree with you. Except shipping isn't that major. I always thought the love of friends was more important in the books then the romantic love, just my opinion. I don't get how some people believe something is going to happen so deeply, when it has been proven it won't. H/Hr shippers can have their part in fanon, but when they truly believe it's going to happen in canon I might start to pull out the D word.
