Speculation, speculation
Speculation, speculation WARNING: This is a very opinionated post!

Keith Olbermann has made some bold public predictions about the end of the series on his TV news show, Countdown with Keith Olbermann. Make sure you read the second page of the article before making judgment. It is my personal belief, and not necessarily that of the rest of the MuggleNet staff, that he is not far off the mark in his guesses. Except for that whole Harry turning into a Muggle business. I mean, really?

In other news, Scholastic has published the results of their fourth fan poll question. They claim a majority of fans - 56% - believe that Harry will end up with Hermione, 20% believe that Ron will end up with Hermione and 19% believe that Harry will end up with Ginny.

Um, was Scholastic polling people who have actually read the books? 56% of fans are wrong. I quote JKR, in the interview Melissa and I conducted with her two summers ago:

JK Rowling: Yes, we do now know that it's Ron and Hermione. I do feel that I have dropped heavy hints. ANVIL-sized, actually, hints, prior to this point. I certainly think even if subtle clues hadn't been picked up by the end of Azkaban, that by the time we hit Krum in Goblet...

I would think it's difficult to interpret "Yes, we do now know that it's Ron and Hermione" and "anvil-sized hints" any other way, but apparently 56% of fans disagree with me (or just haven't read the interview... or Book 6... or Book 5... or Book 4...). But then, many fans still believe Dumbledore is alive, despite JK Rowling saying that he is "definitely dead." Come on, guys. Wishful thinking isn't going to bring him back.

Note that the question wasn't Who Do You Want to End Up With Whom?, but Who Will End Up With Whom?. There's a difference between wanting something to be true, and believing it is true. There is a word in the English dictionary for holding a belief without evidence, and in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary... I'll give you a hint, it starts with a D.

UPDATE: I don't know if I can make this any clearer, but I will try one more time.

I am not calling all Harry/Hermione shippers delusional! I respect H/Hr shippers who acknowledge the obvious: that JKR paired up Ron and Hermione, but wish she hadn't. The only people I am calling delusional are the shippers who try to wriggle and rationalize their way around "Yes, we do now know that it's Ron and Hermione" and still believe the two will make babies in Book 7. Right, because JKR was lying to us? HOPING is different from BELIEVING!

Hannah_at_Hogwarts, maybe he is...HELLO EMERSON! I wonder if the coding worked...let's see...what do you guys think Emerson would do if an old man walked up to him and said he thought H/Hr was canon?

Posted by Ameeface Jun 26th 2007

Hannah: I certainly hope so. Maybe just so he'll accept us H/Hr that aren't as delusional as the not-real-fans-that-should n't-even-be-allowed-to-vo te, yeah, the ones that should go practice shoving their heads down toilets. :] *gigglesnort* I think it's fun to watch this unfold, to be a little part of it as well. I wonder what it's like for him. However, I'd be having my Quorn chicken, being vegetarian. ^^

Posted by MaverickDog Jun 26th 2007

mrssiriusblack, it was just my opinion or wish! Why so all of these Harry Potter fans seem to be somewhat outraged by no more than opinions?

Posted by Mariami Jun 26th 2007

Why, I ask, WHY did you have to bring this and the D word again?! ILY for this post Emerson, but come on, now... in the words of dear Albus 'Remember our last'... remember our last! *headdesk*

Posted by Hannah_at_Hogwarts Jun 26th 2007

I just choose to believe that most (hopefully all) H/HR shippers and most (if not all) R/H shippers were to ever meet in person, that they wouldn't be throwing any food at each other after screaming the other is delusional! Hey wait, THAT might be something to watch from the sidelines, eh christianaeg? Just keep a bowl of popcorn, a couple of chicken legs, some butterbeer and your burger off to the side....like I said before: It's a free-for-all.

Posted by mariatc Jun 26th 2007

people, COME ON! its OBVIOUS hermione stays with ron. why? because the AUTHOR of the book, JK ROLWING, said it. simple as that. anyone thinking that harry ends up with hermione is SERIOUSLY still in the DENIAL phase of their grief process fro the death of their ship. lol. when deathly hallows comes out, we will FINALLY see ron and hermione together, and the 'harmonians' will be finally proven wrong. and we will laugh at their face. lol. WHO IS WITH ME?! lol

Posted by Ameeface Jun 26th 2007

I would WAY love to sit down with Emerson, talk to him about the D word, and set him straight. Simply to have a proper, civilised conversation without hundreds of angry comments disagreeing with me. Hehe. & Hannah, I don't think that'd happen either. But it would certainly be fun to watch.

Posted by Stargrl228 Jun 26th 2007

Oh I know, I was thinking the same thing when I read saw the poll results. Like when most people thought that Voldie would live...It makes me question whether people know how to actually work the polls.... I also saw that Keith Oberman thing...it was awesome...Thanks Emerson for pointing out how dumb some of the you-know-what (it starts with a d) fandome can be!

Posted by quichua_girl Jun 26th 2007

First of all, I agree with Emerson and almost every fan out there that R/Hr and H/G are going to be together. Second of all, you guys need to realize that this is JUST a book. IT'S FICTION! So what if Ron and Hermione get together. The book isn't called "Harry Potter, Ron, hermione, and the raging hormones". Good grief. Shipping wars are getting out of hand. Some of you just have to realize that notn everyone will agree about shipping but SERIOUSLY! Harry Potter isn't about shipping.. it's about Harry Potter and his struggle to survive. PERIOD.

Posted by Ravenclawswisdom Jun 26th 2007

Hannah, yeah that would be sort of fun to watch from the sidelines. I'll bring a huge pizza, what toppings do you like?

Posted by MaverickDog Jun 26th 2007

I agree with quichua_girl. We all have our opinions, but this is just a book! It is not real, and will never be!

Posted by misstiff2390 Jun 26th 2007

I agree with you Ameeface. I just don't get why so many people are posting rude comments about people who just happen to like Harry and Hermione together.

Posted by qurrat Jun 26th 2007

its really stupid having harry turning up with hermione. I mean come on. Havent we given enough clues that ron and hermione like each other. Scholastic's polls are just stupid

Posted by christianaeg Jun 26th 2007

LOL this is turning into quite the gathering! still voting...

Posted by mariatc Jun 26th 2007

hannah! christianeg! how are you? lol this topic is really fun. ill sit next to you and also watch the 'drama'unfold. and yeah, it would be fun to watch from the sidelines if the two shippers met in person. LOOL. i would bring ice cream :) lol. hannah, how did you go on the wombat? i already know how you did christrianeg, O, just like me! quichua_girl: yep, i agree with you, its fiction..but still..its fun. lol

Posted by harrynginnyinluv Jun 26th 2007

thank you emerson! if i had a dollar for everytime i had to argue with someone (regardless if they have read the books or not) that hermione and harry are NEVER going to happen, i would be richer than J.K. Rowling herself! 56% of those people must be incredibly eminently dense.

Posted by Ameeface Jun 26th 2007

quichua_girl, okay, so they're just books right? We know that. But these books have been a MAJOR part of a lot of our lives since they started. Well, it's certainly the case for myself. I myself am not really partaking in the shipping war. Just the D word thing. It's unfair, prejudice (assuming that we're ALL delusional), and horrible. Implying that H/Hr shippers are stupid, idiots and not real fans is plain horrible. That's what gets me riled up. When people treat you like that, people who don't actually know you, over something you have loved for a large portion of your life, it's gonna be important and it's going to upset you. Anyway guys, I'm going to bed now - it's half past twelve and I have a big test tomorrow/today. I can't wait to get up in the morning and see how this has progressed ^^

Posted by fuzzyslippersx23 Jun 26th 2007

Wow. Those statistics are crazy. There's no way there's only 19% who think its Harry/Ginny. Lmao. Emer son's amazing. Delusional has become my favorite word(:

Posted by Hannah_at_Hogwarts Jun 26th 2007

I have voted also, numerous times. Ravenclawswisdom: almost anything except mushrooms, olives and anchovies. Oooh! I make some wicked orange cream cookies! They taste just like Orange Cream popsicles! I'll whip some up!

Posted by mugglegirl713 Jun 26th 2007

Tell it like it is Emerson, Dumbledore's dead and it's Ron& Hermione duh du jour. I think those anvil-sized hints might have hit some delusional people in the head too many times...

Posted by quichua_girl Jun 26th 2007

Ameeface, I agree with you about the delusional part and calling people names and belittling them. However, at the end of the day, you have to get back to reality. I know they're a big nah, HUGE part of peoples lives, but sometimes it can become their ONLY lives. Anyways, I hope you do well on the test!

Posted by Jeffaplus Jun 26th 2007

So I'm thinking that people like Otter Snow (remember her? No? Good) organized H/Hr shippers into voting on this poll for an overwhelming majority of the results. How else could things be this skewed? If it's really what they did then that's a pathetic attempt. Voting on it won't make it true. But even if they didn't, then that's even sadder that people can be this blind. This delusional, as Emerson would say. Well said, well said. Is it any wonder I love this site? =) (P.S. ... If you want to know who Otter Snow is, visit the H/Hr shipper section of the Wall of Shame. But why would anyone want to remember her?)

Posted by trueShipper Jun 26th 2007

Posted by mariatc Jun 26th 2007

mugglegirl713: lol!

Posted by christianaeg Jun 26th 2007

Ahh I remember old Otter Snow... signed her stupid petition under Platypus Sun or something like that! I would cop paste the D word 100+ times and sign like that! good times! hi mariatc! good to see ya! I'm still voting but H/Hr's stuck at 48%!

Posted by slimbob56 Jun 26th 2007

I think their is a difference between what is happening and what people want to happen. And everyone knows ron and hermione. Even if people still want harry and her.

Posted by Hannah_at_Hogwarts Jun 26th 2007

Hi Mariatc! Ohhhhhh...you really want to know what i got on the third wombat? a 'p'!!!!!!!!!!! Can you imagine? Me a "p"!! I am really bummed about it too. and trueshipper: You certainly have a way with words.

Posted by hpgirl_91 Jun 26th 2007

DELUSIONAL! love you Emerson!

Posted by PotterLove06 Jun 26th 2007

Haha Emerson, you crack me up! But I'm really surprised...I thought a lot of people were Ron/Hermione shippers. I am TOTALLY Ron and Hermione all the way..but I HATE Harry and Ginny. Harry's better off alone..or with a new girl. NOT Ginny.

Posted by xOphoeniXfeath3r Jun 26th 2007

Ameeface - just curious, what kind of a vegetarian are you? Lacto-ovo? I'm a Lacto, myself. Okay, I'll stop with the off-topic stuff now. Time to go vote! :)

Posted by muggleprefect Jun 26th 2007

omg, who the hell voted for harry and hermione? is it not OBVIOUS that its ron and hermione? pft its ron and hermione, harry and ginny. most defienetly DURRHHH dumb people who dont read the books or interviews *tsktsk*

Posted by mariatc Jun 26th 2007

hannah: a P? you? well, dont mind much about it...you are one of the greatest potter fans ive ever met! really! some of the questions were guessing, lol. ----------- "I'm still voting but H/Hr's stuck at 48%!" OMG really christianeg?? *running off to vote*

Posted by Mariami Jun 26th 2007

PotterLove06: I think most people ARE R/Hr shippers, but the online fandom can be quite unpredictable sometimes. H/Hr shippers are more dedicated, and probably have an equal fandom online compared to R/Hr., that's why this results on scholastic's poll. That's my guess, at least, lol.

Posted by Ameeface Jun 26th 2007

Just before I go, quichua_girl - I agree :] & xOphoeniXfeath3r: I'm lacto-ovo. However, in about a year, I'm turning completely vegan. My mum wouldn't let me until I was eighteen because I was still growing. It have to take a load of supplements a day simply by not eating meat or fish, especially since I'm allergic to nuts. Lmao.

Posted by RonHermione33 Jun 26th 2007

RON & HERMIONE, ALWAYS!

Posted by PotterLove06 Jun 26th 2007

Yeah, lol..it is true H/Hr shippers are VERY desperate!

Posted by nidale93 Jun 26th 2007

wait ... what's the D word? Is it dim-witted? Or disturbed? Damp? Dull? Dumb? ... just kidding. I know it's delusional. Nice, Emerson, I don't know who picked H/Hr on Scholastic's site...maybe they all did it as a joke. like VoteFortheWorst on American Idol.

Posted by christianaeg Jun 26th 2007

Hey guys? Slight problem on the voting front. The total votes counter isn't changing! It's stuck at 665,543 votes! Not too good! and Hannah, I agree with you about trueshipper! I'm full of popcorn now... time to hit the pumpkin juice!

Posted by Hannah_at_Hogwarts Jun 26th 2007

Uh...I voted umpteen times for Ron and Hermione, and the figure (the actual votes, not the percentage figure) NEVER MOVED! It is stuck on 569 (the last 3 numbers) Mariatc: yeah I couldn't believe it either, but I did take the test in 10 - 15 minutes too. I suppose I rushed through it. And thanks for your kind words? I appreciate it!

Posted by mariatc Jun 26th 2007

voting here...everyone else who knows hermione and ron will get together...GO VOTE! lets show the harmonians! LOL. at this link: http://www.scholastic.com /harrypotter/activities/s hriekingshack/question4.h tm

Posted by PotterLove06 Jun 26th 2007

Yeah the people who vote are clueless guys who don't even read the books and just watch the movies and think that Emma and Dan would make a cute couple. RON AND HERMIONE FOR LIFE

Posted by Hannah_at_Hogwarts Jun 26th 2007

Possibly a glitch with scholastic? Their server couldn't take all of us voting perhaps? Okay peeps (did I just say that?) I've got to skootch off. Play nice! *CRACK* [disapparates]

Posted by AliKt716 Jun 26th 2007

Ugh. I hate it when people ignore truth. Come on people! Harry/Hermione is like brother going out with sister. GROSS! Ron likes Hermione so he fights to hide his feelings. Hermione does the same. Also, Harry/Ginny needs more votes. They are so gonna end up with each other. That is if they both survive, but.... Get it together! Harry liked Ginny for longer than he knew, Ginny liked Harry for a long time even though she tried not too. It's called denial people! JKR wrote these books and she put in clues. If America had any decent sense the poll should have been different. I mean, Harry and Hermione!? EW! Harry and Ginny love each other. Ron and Hermoine love each other. End of discussion.

Posted by BetZZZlovesHarry Jun 26th 2007

i dont think the people who took this poll have even read the books....i mean seriously...i practically KNEW ron and hermione would be together SINCE THE BEGINNING! if not...it was REALLY obvious starting in goblet of fire....sigh....some people are really stu

Posted by Aang Jun 26th 2007

For some of them though, the Dumbledore is dead thing isn't because of their inability to accept reality. They just aren't that in touch with the fandom

Posted by hplvr92 Jun 26th 2007

lmao, I love you Emerson! You're right on the money, again!

Posted by mariatc Jun 26th 2007

aww bye hannah! take care. yeah, probably a glitch...or maybe the voting has already closed? i dont know...maybe like you can still 'vote'but it doesnt count...and only the results before the results are posted count.

Posted by Padfoot_SiriusBlack Jun 26th 2007

Well that was a interesting. But i dont think Harry and Hermione are going to be together. I knew from the beggining that Hermione and Ron were going to be together. They really Hated each other, but that is why they are going to be together. Ron and Hermione are the perfect couple. They will be together in the end.

Posted by misstiff2390 Jun 26th 2007

Can we please stop with all of the bashing of Harry/Hermione shippers. Just because we like these two characters together doesn't mean we're stupid, idiots, or delusional.

Posted by Jade Jun 26th 2007

Or, you know, maybe people are allowed to wish for whatever they want. Sorry if 'wishful thinking' angers you! I guess the H/Hr shippers merely forgot for a second that they're supposed to forget about personal opinions...whoopsies! "M ost of the H/H shippers are probably fans of the movies and haven't really read the book." Hahaha. Sorry, but we have. I am a H/Hr shipper, and while I in no way believe that they WILL be together, I do prefer the ship over R/Hr by a landslide. Claiming that H/Hr shippers don't read the books is ridiculous. We DO read the books, thank you very much. It just so happens that we prefer intelligence and maturity over - well, the Ron/Hermione relationship. :] Is it possible to, perhaps, leave people alone just because they don't share the same views as the rest of you? Just curious...
