Speculation, speculation
Keith Olbermann has made some bold public predictions about the end of the series on his TV news show, Countdown with Keith Olbermann. Make sure you read the second page of the article before making judgment. It is my personal belief, and not necessarily that of the rest of the MuggleNet staff, that he is not far off the mark in his guesses. Except for that whole Harry turning into a Muggle business. I mean, really?
In other news, Scholastic has published the results of their fourth fan poll question. They claim a majority of fans - 56% - believe that Harry will end up with Hermione, 20% believe that Ron will end up with Hermione and 19% believe that Harry will end up with Ginny.
Um, was Scholastic polling people who have actually read the books? 56% of fans are wrong. I quote JKR, in the interview Melissa and I conducted with her two summers ago:
JK Rowling: Yes, we do now know that it's Ron and Hermione. I do feel that I have dropped heavy hints. ANVIL-sized, actually, hints, prior to this point. I certainly think even if subtle clues hadn't been picked up by the end of Azkaban, that by the time we hit Krum in Goblet...
I would think it's difficult to interpret "Yes, we do now know that it's Ron and Hermione" and "anvil-sized hints" any other way, but apparently 56% of fans disagree with me (or just haven't read the interview... or Book 6... or Book 5... or Book 4...). But then, many fans still believe Dumbledore is alive, despite JK Rowling saying that he is "definitely dead." Come on, guys. Wishful thinking isn't going to bring him back.
Note that the question wasn't Who Do You Want to End Up With Whom?, but Who Will End Up With Whom?. There's a difference between wanting something to be true, and believing it is true. There is a word in the English dictionary for holding a belief without evidence, and in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary... I'll give you a hint, it starts with a D.
UPDATE: I don't know if I can make this any clearer, but I will try one more time.
I am not calling all Harry/Hermione shippers delusional! I respect H/Hr shippers who acknowledge the obvious: that JKR paired up Ron and Hermione, but wish she hadn't. The only people I am calling delusional are the shippers who try to wriggle and rationalize their way around "Yes, we do now know that it's Ron and Hermione" and still believe the two will make babies in Book 7. Right, because JKR was lying to us? HOPING is different from BELIEVING!

"I'm going to say this for the last time: HARRY HAS AN EQUAL CHANCE OF BEING WITH GINNY OR HERMIONE. I PERSONALLY THINK HARRY AND HERMIONE WORKS BEST, BUT I HAVE A THEORY THAT HAS HERMIONE DIE PROTECTING RON. SO IT'S LIKELY THAT HARRY WILL BE WITH GINNY, BUT STILL.....WON'T HARRY BE THE ODD ONE OUT OF THE FAMILY WHO LIVES IN THE BURROW? HE HAS BLACK HAIR AND NO FRECKLES. THE OTHER WEASLEYS DO." This would be true if it wasn't for the fact that Harry is in love with Ginny and not in love with Hermione at this point in time in the story. Anyway, I'm perfectly ok with people supporting Hr/h if it's what they would like to see, BUT when this same people claim that JK is wrong and they're right and come out with very poor cannon evidence for it it's a completely different story. Take care all and stop the hating. FEEL THE LOVE!
awwww bye hannah! see you later! nice hanging with you (lol!) We'll keep voting till we overload the scholastic server with votes on couples other then H/Hr! I'm going to be hanging out here with my snack shack for the evening so i can see the rest of the show lol! and mariatc, ya that's probably right.... closed voting..
I love you Emerson, that post made my day, I agree with everything you said. I watched the Keith Olberman thing last night and I thought it was interesting to see how detailed he was with his predictions, he is obviously a fan of the books.
when Deathly hallows comes out and Ron and Hermione end up together...I just want to go to each H/Hr shipper and be like...oooo what now?
everyone is saying that the h/hr shippers are delusional, and even though i am a strong supporter of r/hr, most of the shipper dont think that h/hr will happen, they just think that they would make a good couple...but still, R/HR ALL THE WAY!
LOL! (sorry if i hurt or offend anyone by my comment) ok jade, I never said you didnt read the books. i just cant understand how you 'prefer' a ship that NEVER existed and NEVER WILL exist. i just dont get where you all got the idea of that ship from a start... hermione and ahrry have never been together, or flirted, or anything...so you cant prefer something that never existed over something that exists (ron's jealousy of krum, hermione's jealousy of lavender...etc)
and HARRY being zapped of his powers....that would SUCK that is all I am saying...IT WOULD SUCK
uhm... what? 56% of HP fans are morons, clearly. Doesn't anyone understand the term "friendship," or the idea of a platonic relationship? Just because a guy and girl are good friends doesn't mean they're in love! Anyway I don't like that whole Harry being zapped of his powers. That makes little sense. Harry has two amazingly magical parents and his powers didn't come from Voldy, there's no reason he'd have to lose them upon Voldemort's demise.
ROCK ON EMERSON!!!!
eyeheartlupin: is it really necessary to call people who ship Harry/Hermione morons? I think it's just really rude to degrade people like that just for liking two characters in a book as a couple.
Excellent, excellent post! I noticed that too about the poll. I mean, come on people! Maybe some of them just kept voting over and over, if you can do that, that is!
P.S. I love the pic of the anvil next to this post.
eyeheartlupin, that was extremely unnecessary. It was rude and degrading and I myself am not for H/Hr simply because it's my opinion. I seem them as brother and sister who do love each other in a SIBLING kind of way. Seriously, I'm sorry, but people just need to accept that we all have different opinions. I respect H/Hr shippers, until it becomes almost being ridiculous (ridiculous meaning that they are claiming that JKR was wrong and they're right and everyone is stupid for not agreeing with them).
Hah. Go Emerson. He's probably like, the ONLY one that can get away with insulting 56% of the Harry Potter fandom. More than that acctually, because not EVERYBODY voted. I know that I forgot to. It's R/Hr and H/G. Duhh. But still. Ily Emerson!
Emerson, I love it when you post! You're so funny. :) Thanks for that!
Emerson - STFU. Whether they ship what you ship or not, H/Hr fans are STILL HP fans, and alienating them like this makes you look like a prick. I personally think Harry and Hermione have the chemistry of a bag of frozen peas lying on top of an ice cube tray, but I don't go around acting like I'm superior because of it. When will you learn to stop being such an asswipe? I would've thought the hate mail from last time might have attested to the fact that your fellow fans don't like being treated like crap by you.
Has anyone besides me been on the scholastic forums? There are a lot of h/hr shippers there. And not people who don't think they're going to be together but want them to be, but people who insist that it's gonna happen. I think that's part of the reason H/Hr got 56%.
Oh. And I L♥ve the picture of the Anvil. That was greattt.
Wow. I really really hope the people who took that poll were kidding. it's funny how so many of us can uncover these other hints that helped us figure out many other situations in the HP books, but when it comes to this, the most obvious subplot in the books, 56% STILL think it's Harry and Hermione. even after JK herself told us straight out. that's kind of sad...but amusing nontheless.
Emerson, at first when you started up the Delusions stuff, I admit it was kinda funny. I am such shipper myself and I thought you were actually with good humour. I know what you're going at with "wishful thinking" and all but please. Your continued "assault" and slashing with the Delusions crap has just hit the last straw. I really hope you take things down a couple notches- because honestly, its not funny anymore.
Thank you Seventhchild. I myself am a Harry/Hermione shipper and I hate coming on here and seeing rude comments aimed towards H/Hr shippers, because I love this site so much! It just sucks when people try to put you down because of your opinion on two fictional characters. It's just pointless and mean, and all of this Harry/Hermione shipper hating really just needs to stop.
the fact that ANYONE who has read any of the harry potter books and STILL thinks that there is even the slightest bit of hope for hermione and harry makes me sick. it's ron and hermione forever guys! :)
hey people., okay, emerson may have gone a bit over the line for some of you, but dont insult HIM. after all, its HIS site... if you think he is such a *prat*, etc, what are you doing in his fansote? because, this fandom is an HP fandom mainly, but because its HIS site, and he supports ron/hermione, its also a bit of a ron/ hermione site. so dont complain about the comments he makes about whatever subject he chooses...because its HIS site...this amazing site :) lol
well said mariatc!! just to let you know i'm still camped out here! still voting pointlessly..
The HORCRUX in Harrys HEAD was REMOVED when Voldemort POSSESSED Harry at the Ministry of Magic at the end of book five. VOLDEMORT took it with him AFTER HE LEFT Harrys body. This is OBVIOUS because Dumbledore could look Harry in the EYES IMMEDIATELY after Voldemort left Harrys BODY, and Harry also has NO PAIN IN HIS SCAR in all of book 6. JKR tries to FOOL US ALL into believing some silly story about the lack of PAIN by saying that Voldemort must be using occlumency against Harry now. At the finale of book 7, THIS may be the information SNAPE steps forward with just as Harry is about to kill himself. YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST, FOLKS.
I apologize to the Harry Hermione shippers out there..... but I completely do not see what you're coming from at all. How can you STILL be shipping them!? How could you START shipping them in the first place?!
I agree that we shouldn't insult Emerson, I just don't think that Harry/Hermione fans should be insulted either, because this is a Harry Potter site and not a Ron/Hermione site. Because, though I don't know about how other Harry/Hermione fans feel, I really don't like being called delusional.
The site supposedly created for Harry Potter fans, but I guess I was mistaken - you're only welcome if you ship OBHWTF. I like to get my news from here, because the URL is easy to type. That's all. :)
christianeg: thanks, lol. im voting too...maybe its a glitch a BOOM all our 'pointless' votes will count. lol. and Tracy rogers...interesting..but how does that relate to the point..? lol
You know what Tracy....you have a good point.
Well for one thing- the continued pressure for H/Hr fans to suddenly convert is totally out of the question. There are many sites out there that are just not willing too. And now I get that its R/Hr. Many of my fellow shippers know this too. As Emerson points, Jk Rowling even said it herself. But just because its whats going to happen doesn't mean we still can't like H/Hr. I'm happy you guys are for R/Hr. Truly I am. But can we just please stop the ship bashing?
Oh, hello greenphoenix!! I am so glad that at least one other person in the world has heard me say it. Have a lovely lovely day! Thank you!!
While I agree with Olberman 99% of the time, I think he may be off. He's presuming, as the unintiated might, that Harry Potter got his magical powers FROM Voldemort and his curse. This is not likely as both Harry's parents are skilled wizards. Harry did get some extra powers from Voldy (parceltongue). I could see these going away once Voldy meets his final, final, final demise. As a business matter, it's been said many times in financial circles, that Harry Potter's death is bad for business. While I'm sure the end will be thrilling (if not bitter-sweet), Harry will come out OK, with most of his power intacts. As for the H/H shippers... JKR has changed her mind before. If you'll recall, she said that two people have to die which weren't going to die before. I think that a comment from 2 summers ago needs to be taken with a grain of salt. If JKR can change her mind about who lives or dies, she can certainly change her mind about who falls in love.
misstiff2390: yeah, i know, nobody likes to be called delusional, but thats what you get in a mainly r/hr populated fandom...just like when i went some time ago to a hr/h fandom and I was called stupid, brute, empty headed...among others. Seventhchild: yeah, mugglenet is supposely a 'neutral' hp site, but with time its owner and adminastrators turned hr/r shippers...so obviously the site was influenced and turned a bit hr/r too. :)
aww where'd the party go lol? the fights are slowing a bit too! darn! maybe they'll pick up tomorrow morning!
Emerson how you treat people who have a difference of an opinion is horrible. Just because they believe in somethin you don't doesn't give you the right to be as rude as you are to them. WE have our theories and you have yours. You are a horrible example to younger children. My younger cousin comes here and she thought because you pick on people who don't agree with youshe is able to do it too. You run an extreamly nice website but the fact that you treat people like this turns people away. Trust me it does. Ask the users at Veritaserum. And 'm quoting a great quote, Don't count your chickens before they hatch. Remember J.K. Rowling never reveals stuff hugely like that without there being a twist. Remember you are setting an example for Potter fans everywhere. Have a nice summer and god bless, One of them "Delusionals"
Oh Emerson, how you've amused me so.
I agree with leon_cita. Don't diss they're beliefs, or.. what they 'want' to believe. TRUST ME: if most of the 56% believe that Harry and Hermione will get together, it's only because they have grown up around Harry and hermione, they understand Harry and Hermione. And that they believe that they should... be. And who knows, maybe they will get together. I know it's an almost impossible thought, and it's incorrect. But maybe there is an impossible twist somewhere in the book/s that'll make Harry and Hermione just connect, and MAYBE JKR lied in that interview. Maybe she didn't, but I know for a fact, and that is: JKR wants her readers (aka US!) to not know everything, as it will all be unravelled in DH. I mean, what good is a book that doesn't have secrets? Personally, I am a Harry/Hermione shipper... But I think that we can all see the Ron and Hermione are in the spotlight at the moment!
Haha. Good show. Emerson ... you're nothing if not consistent. The question is, um, why do you *care* what they vote for? Enough to write a post about it/pimp your interview from two years ago *again*? I'm kinda sick of obhwf-ers acting like people who prefer harry/hermione in terms of shipping can't read/aren't valid as HP fans. This is not an intelligent post; it's actually quite ignorant - and unprofessional. Not only that ... Do you really think you're in JK's confidence or something? You can publish your books and self-pimp all you like ... but you aren't in JKR's back pocket, you are not her BFF, or her editor, and you DON'T know how the book will ultimately end. Maybe it'll be R/Hr. Maybe H/Hr. Maybe (crossing fingers here) JKR won't focus on who ends up with whom at all, and instead on the Trio, and friendship, and other more important, plotty things that she's better at writing. heh. It's just never good to count chickens before they're hatched. And no matter the outcome of the series, ridiculing readers for their opinions makes YOU an ass. Not us. :D Point blank.
True dat.
LOL! two sentences into the second paragraph, and i knew right away that it was emerson... ^.^ just face it, some people are just delusional. :D i havent read the predictions, ill have to check those out... cant wait for deathly hallows! XD
hpnicole83, you're awesome. :D
Emerson...I love you. R/Hr all the way! People should read the books before voting in the polls thnxbye.
i guess the r/hr shippers just have better things to do w/our time than to stuff the ballot on that poll ... perhaps b/c we don't feel the need to prove anything like the insecure (and for good reason!) h/hr fans. plus, that poll's inherently flawed b/c the harry/ginny and ron/hermione choices are mutually exclusive, so they probably split the vote of the rational fans.
ummm tracy? didn't you post that before??
sorry gtg guys! bye christianeg! i'll be back in a bit.
Emerson, you never fail to amuse me. Love the anvil next to the post. As to how 56% of voters voted Harry/Hermione, I found this explanation on the Scholastic forums. Find it for yourself here: http://community.scholast ic.com/scholastic/board/m essage?board.id=SS_Q4&mes sage.id=259 Here's the complete post: This is just to help solve the mystery for those who are wondering how H/Hr got so many votes. It's against the rules to post links here, but if you wander over to Portkey, the largest of the H/Hr forums, you can find a thread in the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, 'Pre-Release-Discussions' section that clears things up. The thread is titled: "Vote for Harry/Hermione at Scholastic!" The majority of the discussion revolves around spamming the poll to inflate the H/Hr votes, at least partly to infuriate 'OBHWF' 'shippers. That poor poll, it is so abused. For the record, given HBP and a certain interview that seemed to hit fandom like a blow torch hits a tanker of lighter fluid, it seemed to be abundantly clear that Rowling is intending for H/G, R/Hr, and Remus/Tonks to be couples, assuming that none of them die.
ummm....what do you mean Emerson's post was unprofessional?? He is not ridiculing Harry/Hermione shippers because of their opinions. He said, "You guys are dead wrong." which you ARE. You think H/Hr are going to end up together, even though they're not. That is an incorrect theory as Emerson pointed out. There is a HUGE difference between wanting something and what will actually happen. You ppl can WANT H/Hr to happen, but you can't claim that they will end up together, when the boss, Jk, clearly stated they weren't. So don't be little crybabies because you were called delusional, and it wasn't Emerson who called you stupid. Stupid and delusional do not mean the same thing...so thank you for proving your CLEARLY superior intellect.
to snitch: i said that a while ago...but no one heard me
