Last word of Book 7 no longer 'scar'
The BBC has posted some more details on JK Rowling's interview with Jonathan Ross, which was recorded yesterday but which will air tonight. When asked about whether "scar" was the last word in the book as had been reported, she said: "Scar? It was so for ages, and now it's not. Scar is quite near the end, but it's not the last word."
She also talked about Dan, Rupert, and Emma: "It's a weird relationship. It's a peculiar feeling, parental, and yet there's this place where you're inhabiting the same characters... strangely intense from my point of view... to keep it all British has been a hell of an achievement."

The new last word : Delusional
I cannot believe this, for so long we've been thinking up endings to end in scar, and I always said if it ended in scar, harry must be alive at the end, is it possible he is the one who"I [Jk] did not intend to die" originally?!
Now I am going to have to resist the temptation to look at the last word right when I but the book.
I always thought it would be hard to end it with scar, but with Jo... well, she can write anything so I'm sure she could do it! I can't wait for it, but I'm going to cry when it's over....
Ah... and I had a perfect ending with a scar...
megblack89 that waas my first thought too!! What if it is?! I know im going to struggle with temptaion not to look straight at the last page lol!!
I was wondering . . . what was the significance of the last word being scar anyway? I mean, sure, it sounds cool and all, but was there a real reason it was like that? Oh well, I'm sure the new last word will be just as good as the old last word.
noooooooo. too bad its still not scar, but i had my doubts on whether it would be. i thought that it would change when she announced that she saved someone unexpected and killed two others, that whole thing. yay im right.
awwww i was looking forward to flipping to the last page with my eyes closed reallllly tight and then peaking to find scar!
Maybe she was "sobering" because this was her last book. She has been writing this book for more then 10 years and now its finshed.
Oh my Lord Voldemort!!!!!!! Scar's not the last word? Then what is? Why do you do this to me? Holy Horcrux 14 days!!!!!! *screams in exitement before getting up from her chair to run around the house*
Oh my goodness. I am so excited. I just finished posting another comment and woot woot! SO excited! Yes! I cannot believe it's going to be the final book? The movie and the book. What an intense summer. Unfortunately, I've got a whopping load of summer read that possibly totals over 2,500 pages but - I will always move it around for a little HP time. :D THE MOVIE!! :D THE BOOK!!! :D :D GOSSHHHHHHHHHH! Ma n, I'm imagining myself at Barnes&Noble at midnight (yes, I am a nerd...but alas, here we all convene!) getting my book, holding it, placing it in a safe corner in my room and not cracking it open till the next afternoon when I'm comfortably in my chair. Opening the book, smelling the clean, fresh, newly printed pages. My fingers are running across the spine, tracing the letters, taking in everything Mary Grandpre has to offer. My mind travels far and wide as I glance over the first page in the Table of Contents. Seriously, that's one my favorite parts. The Table of Contents. Man...
New ending: Ron/Ginny: Harry where's your scar. Harry: Dunno but Hermione's dead. THE END LOL / Jeeez...just JOKING.
I think the fact the movies and such were kept almost-exclusively British was the best idea they had, because that kept it authentic. I am glad that Jo said only British actors. Although I would have loved to have a chance as an American actress to audition for a part, but I completely understand what the idea is to keep everything localized (over there).
Dang! :( I was kind of looking forward to it being scar, actually
Spoiler: The last word is Storge now. (no, not really)
Well... We know she is going to tell us about the lives of the surviving characters. There is no place for the word scar. ^^ I guess the story has 'scar' at its ending - but not the epilogue...
The last word is "ka-ching!"
so...what's the last word?
Omg, scar should be the klast word!~C But J.K. is a much beter writer than me so it is probably something bettert, and I dont think it newit.
I kind of expected it to not be scar anymore, i dunno, it just wouldnt seem right to expect to read the word scar at the end...
ok so Jo, what IS the last word................. ooh my dad will be happy now! he had his way of ending the book and if the last word isn't scar... he wont leave it alone until Jo tells us. Watch the last word be Harry...... lol TELL US JKR!
not 'The boy who lived'..but 'The boy who loved'. You'll see..you'll all see!
OH MY GOD. WOW. That's a shocker, but I was thinking she would have changed it by now. Guess what everyone? 15 MORE DAYS! YESSSSS!
OMG! only 14 days and she goes n tells us sumthing like that! its gonna b so difficult nt 2 flip 2 the last page just 2 c wot the last word is!
i think the last word is potters or the boy who lived or lovegood or burn or love or heart and possibly ravenclaw or gryffindor
RyAn2006: the body font looks slightly different from the font used in the previous books, the non-italized spell, and the line spacing is totally different...just my thoughts NOT REAL!
Haha, I always wondered how she could make scar fit so it's the last word. | AND THEN...Harry Potter started walking toward his best friends but he tripped and it left a scar..................:] | Hehe. Wonder what the new word is......[14 more days]
qwertyy thanks! yes looking at it now it seems pretty obvious! Thanks again-just another loser with nothing better to do then create something like that....
I think it's probably clear that Harry's scar is a Horcrux, and the original last sentence would be something to the effect that Harry lived on happily at his new job doing
um...will mugglenet have a video of this interview for the non-british folks? hmm....the last word is not scar....kinda sad, but not really important....BTW, if scholastic and bloomsbury wouldve decided to release the book on the amazingly perfect date of 7/7/07 the release party wouldve been tonight and the book wouldve come out tomorrow....darn, still 14 days to go...
Aw. That's sort of sad. For the last few years I had mentally prepared that the last word would be scar...and wondered in what sort of sentence context it could be...using the rules of grammar and stuff. Hm. Oh well!
The new last word is...oh sorry, my mom's calling me...gotta go, bye!
Dang it! It would have been cool if the last word was still scar after all these years. O well. I wanna know what the new word is. 14 days!!
Although, she could have ended the book with something interesting and... uh..., end-y, like "...and all that that was left of Harry's journey were his memories and his scar." Something like that. I wonder what the word is now?
yeah same :( I cant wait to get my hands on that book. Its been driving me crazy!
The last sentence of the book is: Nitwit Oddment Blubber Tweak
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!! THAT WAS THE ONE THING I WAS CONFIDENT ABOUT (or at least looking forward to finding out) AND NOW ALL OF MY DREAMS ARE CRUSHED!!!!!!!!!!! *sob* *sob* *sob* *sob*
:(
NOOOOOOO!!! I was really hoping it to be scar Well maybe she'll tell us what it IS in a few days.
dont be distraught..even though ive been waiting for the final book since 2nd grade back in the 90s and forming the last sentance ending with scar since..no..not really a big deal..NOO
I can't believe it! I guess it doesn't really matter, because she says its still there. ONLY 14 DAYS!!!!!!!!!
I can't wait until the book!!! It would be kind of hard to end with "scar". The way I see it though is that she must have made the book a bit longer (or at least changed it a bit) for scar to be *near* the end but not the last word...just my thinking though. Either way I'm going to have to restrain myself from looking at the last word. 14 days!
I don't care what she ends it with, I want to read it for the whole book--not just the last word. Umm...the person who posted about 'The Onion'...we used that in English class as an example of satire. The article we read was hilarious though, saying if you think too hard your head will implode.
hmmmmmmm, i wonder what it is now
READ THIS EVERYONE! VERY IMPORTANT!!!!! MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH!................... .i know this is completely off topic but does ANYONE know what channel abc family comes on in Canada? does it even come in Canada? cuz if it doesn't then i totally hate being a canadian!!!!!
Oooooh, that makes me really sad! But on the other hand, now there will be some suspense up until the very last word of the HP saga. It's kind of nice not knowing, actually. Okay, sadness has ended.
RyAn2006: where the f***ing hell did you find that page from????????????
Aw. It's not the most important thing, but I'm kind of disappointed. We've known for ages that scar was the last word, and we've always envisioned finishing reading the last book with that word. Also, my friends and I are going to film a parody Harry Potter sometime-- a joke about the last chapter of the last book, and the script we wrote ends with 'scar.' Oh well.
