Last word of Book 7 no longer 'scar'
Last word of Book 7 no longer 'scar' The BBC has posted some more details on JK Rowling's interview with Jonathan Ross, which was recorded yesterday but which will air tonight.

When asked about whether "scar" was the last word in the book as had been reported, she said: "Scar? It was so for ages, and now it's not. Scar is quite near the end, but it's not the last word."

She also talked about Dan, Rupert, and Emma: "It's a weird relationship. It's a peculiar feeling, parental, and yet there's this place where you're inhabiting the same characters... strangely intense from my point of view... to keep it all British has been a hell of an achievement."

That's a bummer but I still can't wait to read the book.

Posted by polkadots56 Jul 6th 2007

ahhhhhhhh! I wonder what it is now??!

Posted by goldenboyss19 Jul 6th 2007

its going to be the f-word.

Posted by dawnsong7 Jul 6th 2007

:( Now I'm gonna be nibbling my fingernails when I'm reading, cause I want to find out. Or maybe I'll just have my sister read it to me, cause if I read it, then I'll want to read the whole sentence. I guess the reason that we all wanted it to be "scar" was because it seemed so final, because we introduced Harry with having a lighting bolt shaped scar on his forehead. It would just be like we've come full circle. Oh god, we're in the "final two weeks stage". -dances happily- I live like an hour away from Chicago, so I'm going to the Magic Tree Bookstore!!!!! :D Oh, and about the Onion, why the heck would JKR put a date rape in her book?! But "The Blood on the Cloak" sounds like a good chapter title.

Posted by tat Jul 6th 2007

ok... I'll take a 14 days long nap... wake me up on July 20, around 11.30 pm... *yawn* g'night everyone...

Posted by wyld_stallyns Jul 6th 2007

Hmm, wonder what it could be. I always imagined something to the effect of Harry wandering back through the barrier into King's Cross, a little kid tugging on his sleeve and saying, "Hey Mister, where'd you get that scar?"

Posted by heather_s_70056 Jul 6th 2007

Oh, J.K., she's such a tease. Honestly, I don't care about the last word, but I'm seriously getting anxious about this book. There's so much hype and I'm so scared I'm going to be dissappointed. I've never been let down by J.K. begore, but I'm getting nervous.

Posted by christianaeg Jul 6th 2007

WHOA! this is big! i can't believe it's all going to end in 14 days... i just can't. i don't know what i'm going to do........

Posted by harypoterluv Jul 6th 2007

NO!!!!!!!! ITS BEEN ANNOUNED THAT THE LAST WORD WAS SCAR FOREVER!!! SHE CANT DO THIS NOW!!!

Posted by harypoterluv Jul 6th 2007

NO!!!!!!!! ITS BEEN ANNOUNED THAT THE LAST WORD WAS SCAR FOREVER!!! SHE CANT DO THIS NOW!!!

Posted by fell4snape Jul 6th 2007

Y'know, I THOUGHT that might've changed. But whatever....I don't really think it matters if scar is the final word...the longer the book goes on, the better, of course. The way the ending turned out is probably perfect.

Posted by pickles444 Jul 6th 2007

I'll bet that she changed it because of the deaths she added. Mabye something from the Daily Profet? Thats how they find out? Or mabye its the last word of the last CHAPTER but not the epilouge

Posted by lovexlaugh_potter Jul 6th 2007

nooooooo. i wanted it to be scar.

Posted by akitoia Jul 6th 2007

what?! I want my money back. :/

Posted by BellaPrewett Jul 6th 2007

People, why does it even matter?! 'Scar' is goingto be in the last couple of bloody sentences, so who cares if it isn't the last word?! It wont affect the plot, which has been set in stone for the past 15years, or however long it is!! 2WEEKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by jordan_thewizard Jul 6th 2007

It will now end with. Harry and Ginny son suddenly said, "DADDY!"

Posted by Wizardofmath Jul 6th 2007

WHAT!!! THat totally RUINS the book!!! Haha....jk (as in "just kidding" not the author whose books we adore so.) I wonder what the last word is now.... Maybe- and he lived happily ever after. Haha... just imagine!!

Posted by deatheater777 Jul 6th 2007

Dissapointing, but still, only 14 days!?!?!?! wow time flies, it feels like yesterday my mom was reading me SS!

Posted by potthead7140 Jul 6th 2007

someone earlier said that the last phrase would be "The Boy Who Lived". i really really really REALLY like that idea. the first chapter of SS was "The Boy Who Lived". it would be such closure. AND. if it ended with that. THAT MEANS HARRYS ALIVE!!!! yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !! i can picture my self reading ... he was THE BOY WHO LIVED. and then burst in too tears and hug my pillow... omg.. i am going to cry. :(

Posted by hpintwense06 Jul 6th 2007

oh wow. that is a very interesting tidbit there. very interesting. the part about the scar, of course, not the part about the all British actors.

Posted by yuvalavrami Jul 6th 2007

scar isn't a hard word to finish with! "and this is how the story ends; a story that began with a scar". good, eh? (; well, that's what i had in mind... since I first heard this rumor, some 10 years ago...

Posted by more_than_a_name Jul 6th 2007

OMG!! I don't know if I'll make it through the whole thing. I'm going to be a blubbering mess! I'm going for a vacation that day too! My mother is going to think I'm insane!

Posted by PiNkCROOkShANkS Jul 6th 2007

You know wuts crazy? That the sentence that ended w/ scar is still in the book! squeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEE can't wait to read it (the sentence & the book)

Posted by hermi_ana Jul 6th 2007

ok, so now I know i have one wrong on my editorial-divination quiz...

Posted by Slytherin15 Jul 6th 2007

the last word isn't scar? OMG OMG

Posted by SomebodyElse Jul 6th 2007

It's going to take so much self control not to immediately flip to the back of the book when I get it to see what the first word actually IS. I do that all the time with books and ruin them for myself. Two weeks!!!!!!!!

Posted by armormew Jul 6th 2007

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe she's messing with us! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!! THIS CAN"T BE!!!!!!!!!

Posted by bloodtraitor Jul 6th 2007

Posted by freem Jul 6th 2007

WAT CHANNEL DOES ABC FAMILY COMES ON IN CANADA????

Posted by Quiscalus Jul 6th 2007

Not that big of a deal. If it's changed, she probably has a better ending sentance.

Posted by ginerva_weasley Jul 6th 2007

HalfBloodPrince06, the Onion also reported that Jo worships the devil and wrote Potter to turn kids towards the occult. How dare you beleive them, or even read it for that matter.

Posted by Quiscalus Jul 6th 2007

Ginevra_weasley, 'The Onion' writes satire. So chill out. They also wrote that Osama bin Laden was responsible for the death of Steve Irwin (aka the crocodile hunter). It's just for laughs.

Posted by qwertyy Jul 6th 2007

Whoever wanted to know more about ABC family, here is a site you'd find some info (satellite channels, etc) http://en.wikiped ia.org/wiki/ABC_Family

Posted by srose2270 Jul 6th 2007

i think it wouls've been an exciting word to end with. i don't think it would've been TOO difficult to end it with scar. it could've been like... "and all of the troubles that harry finally ended that day began with an infant boy who had nothing but a scar." or something like that, i dunno. but i can't wait for the book anyway!

Posted by HP_reader Jul 6th 2007

o well it doesn't really matter what the last word is...more like how is the last sentence.

Posted by Ravenclawswisdom Jul 6th 2007

It doesn't matter that much...but I think I'll have to restrain myself from flipping to the last page to see the last word. Just think if the release date was 7/7/07 we would be waiting the last few hours until the book came out. I'd probably be a mess, rocking back and forth, actually that's what I'll be doing when it does come out. These next two weeks are going to be extremely painful, what with all the anticipation, my head will probably explode.

Posted by PotterLove06 Jul 6th 2007

I WANTED IT TO BE SCAR! WHY DID SHE CHANGE IT???

Posted by grednforge Jul 6th 2007

awww not "scar"? Oh well.... as long as it's good then I'll be okay.

Posted by RyAn2006 Jul 6th 2007

HEY GUYS, I JUST WANT EVERYONE AT MUGGLENET TO KNOW HOW MUCH OF A RACIST DEVIL ANYAMARCOS IS. SHE CALLED ME A "COMMON LITTLE NIGG" AND I NEVER TOLD HER MY COLOR, AND DON'T KNOW WHY SHE WOULD SAY SUCH A THING, MUGGLENET MUST BAN HER FROM THIS WEBSITE, OR ELSE I WILL SEEK THE AUTHORITIES, THIS IS NOT RIGHT! WHO'S WITH ME?

Posted by cfptwenty Jul 6th 2007

I've just watched this and she confirmed that as i thought, it isnt just 2 that die in the next book, it's alot more than two!

Posted by HalfBlood06 Jul 6th 2007

ginerva_weasley: OK! Well ummm don't say "How dare I do such and such..." ALRIGHT? I had no idea because I had never even heard of the Onion and I did not read it, I saw a video alright? And I love Jo like every other ones of her fans and I would NEVER believe she worships the devil. And yes, you really need to chill out. Oh and by the way my name isn't HalfBloodPrince06, it's HalfBlood06, get it right.

Posted by Dobby4ever Jul 6th 2007

What does it matter if 'scar' is the last word? When it was scar I had this weird theory in my head that the last sentence would be something like ' Harry felt an explosion of pain in his scar' - something like that, so she could write another book.. but that was just a theory in my head, which of course wouldn' be true.. but I had that weak hope/denial about this book being the last one.

Posted by Kamion Jul 6th 2007

Just seen Jonathan Ross, funny and witty as ever and I got the impression he was plugging his first guest, the actor Bob Hoskin, as a HP character for getting a good laugh, but JKR looked very pleased with the idea having Hosking in the film..... I bet we saw the first performance of Horace Slughorn tonight. Another little revelation to me was the clip from OotP were they are practising Expecto Patronus, I saw a hare as the patronus for Luna and a HORSE for Ginny. Some earlier spoiler said it was a phoenix, which I actually hated. I think the phoenix as a Patronus will belong to Harry in DH. So seeing a horsy patronus really pleased me.

Posted by Cooper2085 Jul 6th 2007

Yeah just saw the programe. JK jokingly said book 7 would be a bloodbath. I see Bob Hoskins more as a Mundungus Fletcher tbh :)

Posted by Kamion Jul 6th 2007

Mundungus??? mmmm, never picked dung as short and stout, but could do quite well. But I have to admit the moment I read about Slughorn in HBP I figured him as Hoskins, so I was pretty pleased with the game that was played at the intervieuw. Of course this promisses nothing.

Posted by wyld_stallyns Jul 6th 2007

Is no one else *extremely* curious about the "chapter list" posted by adeathlyhallow a bit further up the page? If it's not the real thing, it's a hell of a good little put-on.

Posted by celticraven Jul 6th 2007

I'd always thought that if the last word was scar, the ending would be something like, from then on, one of the bad guys carried a scar. Like, people can see Voldemort's ghost and they saw that he now carried a scar. Or, Draco Malfoy was in hiding and where Harry had wounded and defeated him left a scar. Something along those lines. I thought it was silly how people imagined open endings like Hermione saying, "Harry, where's your scar?" Of course it wouldn't end like that! It would be something complete like. Well, I'm disappointed that it won't be the actual last word. Maybe there will be one last paragraph in the epilogue about scars, who got the scar, if Harry still has the scar, or something along those lines.
