JKR: Some people will 'absolutely loathe' Book 7
JKR: Some people will 'absolutely loathe' Book 7 ITV is set to broadcast a documentary on JK Rowling this winter called "A Year in the Life...JK Rowling," and some excerpts from the special have been released.
The author JK Rowling is seen in a forthcoming TV documentary looking over the just-finished version of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on her laptop. She declares: "Yeah, think I've finished."

As an off-camera film-maker offers his congratulations, Rowling, 41, says: "Thank you...yeah, you don't know, it might be rubbish. Some people will loathe it, they will absolutely loathe it. For some people to love it, other people must loathe it. That's just in the nature of the plot."

She adds, "I'm actually really, really happy with it", before bowing her head on the keyboard to exclaim: "Oh my God!"
Ciaran's opinion: When she says readers could potentially loathe the book, it would be because of deaths. And I don't think Jo believes killing off any character(s) other than Harry would spark hate among fans, which could mean... (Consider that she's never said this about a previous book even though very beloved characters have died.)

Emerson's opinion: This could be interpreted to mean anything. I still don't believe Harry will die.

I'M sure i will love it, but i really hope harry does not die! That seems kinda pointless to me, what shitty life for him if he does.

Posted by SPEW07 Jul 13th 2007

i'll love it no matter what.....i hope.... top ten..

Posted by Glitterbug Jul 13th 2007

No!! Not Harry! Anyone but Harry! (Except Ginny ;))

Posted by steferrknee Jul 13th 2007

top ten! and... crap. But honestly, so many of the characters are loved... it doesn't have to mean Harry. *crosses fingers*

Posted by dancnfreak761 Jul 13th 2007

ill love it ...top ten..

Posted by omgharrypotter Jul 13th 2007

top ten! oh please, nooooooo. please, jo, don't kill off harry.

Posted by appERINNtly Jul 13th 2007

I'm going to love it!

Posted by wizardwheezes Jul 13th 2007

not necessarily, they could just kill off other well loved characters, and then there's the ending, some people just won't like how it ends....HARRY IS NOT GOING TO DIE!!! (i'm an optimist..and i'm going to cry if harry dies)

Posted by Live_2_act Jul 13th 2007

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Harry is NOT going to die. I just won't allow it.

Posted by The_Debster Jul 13th 2007

Sounds very interesting, there must be some real extremes in the plot for her to state that some people may loathe it. I can’t wait!

Posted by tonksinlimegreenflipflops Jul 13th 2007

love the story! But not exactly great news.

Posted by pianogal6201 Jul 13th 2007

NOoooooooo!!!! I do not want harry to die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO!!!!

Posted by mdiaz045 Jul 13th 2007

Awwww...I think that people will definitely be disappointed with some of the deaths but I know that that won't change how I feel about the book overall. I just hope that Harry doesn't die (crossing my fingers)!!!

Posted by elody4434 Jul 13th 2007

Ahh i hope im not one of those people!

Posted by voldiekilledthedodos Jul 13th 2007

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by LTSprite Jul 13th 2007

I hope harry doesn't die...and I know I'm going to cry no matter what happens. The ending wont be filled w/ butterflies and pink bunnies so we just have to face that. My favorite book so far is half-blood prince...hope this book can top it!

Posted by xsoapyx Jul 13th 2007

I'll love it however you write it, Jo! Yay for killing off major characters! er... >.>

Posted by weasleyredhead21 Jul 13th 2007

it is a harry potter book. i will love it no matter what. maybe just be sad but i would still LOVE it.

Posted by appERINNtly Jul 13th 2007

Harry is going to die... gahhhhhhh

Posted by bookmonster79 Jul 13th 2007

I think sometimes people read too much into these kind of comments. IMO Jo, like any normal writer, is expressing feelings that people won't understand her intent and won't appreciate the way she handled things. Characters are going to die. Deal with it. Even, good ol' Harry might die. That's part of dealing w/ a story like this. It matters not, b/c in just a week's time we shall know if we love or loathe it!

Posted by sirius_lee Jul 13th 2007

we already noe that atleast 2 main characters are gonna die, i cant bear that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!^_^sob not the weslyes, or hremione or harry or draco or hagrid or lupin or tonks and if sirius comes back, not him!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by x_GiNi_x Jul 13th 2007

i think i will appreciate whatever Jo thinks of doing because she was ofcourse the person who introduced us to the world of harry potter.....:)

Posted by moovilla Jul 13th 2007

dahh. if the point of the plot is for people to react this way, i think she only deserves kudos. i mean, if she can have two completely different reactions like that. its bound to be excellent.

Posted by cata_tonks Jul 13th 2007

Well... if Harry dies I'll cry and cry for days... But that doesn't mean I'll hate the book

Posted by candyswirls Jul 13th 2007

NO! Harry is NOT going to die. Haha sorry I really don't think that's going to happen =P

Posted by Ruby_321 Jul 13th 2007

am so exited, I love it no matter what! only a week left guys!!!

Posted by SPEW07 Jul 13th 2007

if harry dies...ill die or at least a part of my soul.....and ill cry hard than when cedric die.....and sirius...and even harder than dumbledore....which was hard...and i'd randomly cry.....for like the next month if harry dies....ill never stop i think it will me a weasley.....cause mrs weasley said it will be a miricale if we all live throught this in OotP, because to kill off the boy who lives...and make him the boy who DIES NONONONONOOO.....NO

Posted by starchick93 Jul 13th 2007

i wont loath it. actually i will love it!!!

Posted by midnightangel Jul 13th 2007

Well, it's obvious that someone will always be upset with the book, because it has been made very clear that one or more major characters will die. I feel sorry for anyone who will "loathe" the book. Hopefully anyone who would be *that* upset over deaths of major characters probably just shouldn't read it. I think the book is going to be fantastic no matter how it works out. Jo hasn't failed us yet.

Posted by goldenboyss19 Jul 13th 2007

i wont mind as much if harry dies, by all means i dont want him to, but id rather him die than ron or hermione.. harry might have to die if hes a horcrux..unless the theory on mugglecast comes true..with the dementor and all.

Posted by d3si_89 Jul 13th 2007

I'm sure I won't hate it, Harry means more to me than a plot...it's kind of lifestyle. Though, I can't deny I'm hoping she won't kill him off. I would cry...

Posted by sirius_lee Jul 13th 2007

i'm gonna cry over the book but OF COURSE ILL STILL LUV IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i might even cry harder than i di ovr sirius's death(i cried hardeston that) still excited

Posted by vandy Jul 13th 2007

oh my god!!!it can't be harry.........and i won't loathe the book even if he dies.....

Posted by SnapeIsHawt Jul 13th 2007

I personally think Harry WILL die after what I've heard on the most recent MuggleCast. It was only yesterday that I was trying really hard to prove Harry will NOT die, but they gave some very insightful theories. Also, can the people who're going "Oh, oh - I'm first!" please stop it for the sake of insanity. You're driving me round the flipping bend here. Just a bunch of stupid wannabes if you ask me. I absolutely can't WAIT to see that show! It's a shame people from around the world can't see it the first time, but it'll leak onto the internet eventually. *Marks the date on my calender* :) I'm going to try and not loath, all because, as J.K. said, it'll be the "nature of the plot". If she listened to the fans all the time, I think the book would have gone in a completely new and unsatisfied direction. If we trust Dumbledore, I think we should trust J.K. to give us one of the most best ever endings - ever. In the history of fiction. :) Let's all give J.K. a big pat on the back! She - as Ron would say - bloody well deserves it.

Posted by to_the_stage93 Jul 13th 2007

Oh, yeah, bye bye Harry.... he HAS to die. I don't think he'll ever be happy if so many important people in his life are dead and he's alie, and you can bet more ppl are going to die.

Posted by HP_isl0ve7 Jul 13th 2007

Harry, cant and wont die. JKR is not obvious...except with the fact that Ron and Hermionie get together. But i must say even if every character dies, i dont think i could hate it. Harry Potter. There is just something about it, that you can't hate.

Posted by performingmonkey Jul 13th 2007

There's definitely gonna be more hate over Deathly Hallows than any other in the series. Jo knows that things she has included will divide opinion. Endings to big series' often do. Here's why some people WILL loathe the book. Some people are under the impression that EVERYTHING will be answered and that their favourite characters (e.g. Ginny) will get their page time and a good end, when this just cannot be the case. To answer everything it would have to be well over 1000 pages, which it isn't, and if it was just a bunch of answers and nothing else it would be a terrible book. Some people are so crazy that they will believe the book to be ruined if we don't find out what certain characters' boggarts are! Or what Dumbledore actually saw when he looked in the Mirror of Erised. Or if the ships they want don't come into fruition (EVEN Hermione/Ron might not happen, although that's extremely unlikely. One of them (or both...mwahahahgha!) would have to die to stop it from happening.). Just LOOK at how many different theories there are. A lot of people will be genuinely upset if their own theories end up being totally wrong (e.g. Snape loved Lily, Snape is good, Snape works for himself alone, basically anything to do with Snape!). We just have to accept and respect what Jo has written. This is HER SERIES. She started it and she has finished it. The fans cannot write their own ending, although I'm sure some wish that they could.

Posted by nickflamel Jul 13th 2007

jeez. everyone , especially staff, use utterances to "prove their "guess"- how bout thisn book....jk means no matter what she does some will like it and others will loathe it. easy interpetation-even if all dead people are death eaters someone will say they didnt like the book- it will have fans, and it will have critics..all the books did and the critics can now critique the whole of the saga -everything does not have "significant meaning"

Posted by moonywormtailpadfootprongs Jul 13th 2007

I think that if certain characters die people will hate the book. I dont think it could just be harry that would make people mad. Like maybe the weasley twins, or Molly. What about lupin? Also SPEW07 has a REALLY good point! ever since the title of the first chapter of the first book we've known harry would pull through! he is in fact, 'The Boy Who Lived'. but it cant just be deaths that could make people hate book 7! it could be anything in the book! im sure every1 didn't love OotP or HBP or CoS or S/PS or PoA or GoF! they might be mad because harry doesn't die! they could be convinced that harry needs to die! So you never know... Well thanx for reading! and remember Harry Potter is the Boy Who Scored--I mean Lived! and he is also the Chosen Captain-- I mean one! Sorry Draco malfoy's been confusing me a lot! Lol! Rofl! Roflol! :-) only one week til DH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAh!! I need to go commit suicide im so scared! Roflol!

Posted by constancedh Jul 13th 2007

I would love it if all it said was "spam spam spam spam spam" - Come on, people, it's HARRY POTTER!!!

Posted by VshawnT Jul 13th 2007

Harry will not die, but Ron will. I personally think that neither Harry nor Voldemort will die. Harry will sacrifice his magical powers in order to take away Voldemort's magical powers - hence, no more HP books, since he's no longer a wizard. This fits with the theme of sacrifice and also means that Harry doesn't become a killer. JKR is too nuanced to have things come out totally one way or the other. It's not just death/life - remember Dumbledore's comment to Voldemort that there are worse things than death in life. For Voldemort, being a muggle would be worse than death. Also, all of those hoping to find out definitively whether Snape is really good or bad are going to be disappointed. JKR will leave the Snape character ambiguous. He's someone that has run the entire series being completely ambiguous and potentially balanced right on the verge of both light and dark. He will remain there. Remember Sirius' comment that the world isn't divided into good people and death eaters. Who else but Snape can really represent that comment in these books? JKR won't tear him out of that role. This makes Dumbledore's CHOICE to trust Snape even more amazing - by trusting in him he gave Snape a reason to choose the good over the dark w/in himself.

Posted by harrypotter_rox Jul 13th 2007

i'm sure i'll love it, i mean, its harry potter!

Posted by dancequalslife24 Jul 13th 2007

it can't be deaths that make people loathe the book! like Dumbledore says, "there are things far worse than death."

Posted by iluvandrew Jul 13th 2007

or maybe some people will loathe it because voldemort wins, kills Harry, and takes over the world! mwahahahahaha

Posted by sticky Jul 13th 2007

i am sure that i will be happy with it no matter what. if JKR is happy with it, then i will be too. I am sure that the characters killed off willl be killed off for a good reason. I am very excited!!!!!! There will be people who won't like it because it won't be the ending they wanted, but remember everyone it is JKR 's books and creation, it won't be the way we want it to end. I am sure it will be amazing.

Posted by hpintwense06 Jul 13th 2007

awwwww! well I mean... everyone has their own opinions and not everyone in the world will have the same exact feelings toward the book so I suppose that it would be expected for some to hate it. Plus it's the last book so that would be part of it, too. Oh please don't let Harry die.... that'd be HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!

Posted by Madison_Wales Jul 13th 2007

Well, you have to keep in mind that Jo wrote the last and final (*cries*) chapter of HP years, and years ago--before she was famous. So we will all just have to be happy with whatever she does and you know, I think that it will teach everyone a really good lesson. I mean I've never have read any book that have proved to me that friendship is the key to be happy. Friendship, trust, and loyalties keep evil and all that bad stuff away. I'm hoping that I'll be happy with the ending and I probably will. I'll be way sad that's it's over--I've been a fan for 9 years. So Jo, I will be happy. YOU ROCK MY WORLD! ~MJ_Padfoot
