JKR: Some people will 'absolutely loathe' Book 7
The author JK Rowling is seen in a forthcoming TV documentary looking over the just-finished version of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on her laptop. She declares: "Yeah, think I've finished."Ciaran's opinion: When she says readers could potentially loathe the book, it would be because of deaths. And I don't think Jo believes killing off any character(s) other than Harry would spark hate among fans, which could mean... (Consider that she's never said this about a previous book even though very beloved characters have died.)
As an off-camera film-maker offers his congratulations, Rowling, 41, says: "Thank you...yeah, you don't know, it might be rubbish. Some people will loathe it, they will absolutely loathe it. For some people to love it, other people must loathe it. That's just in the nature of the plot."
She adds, "I'm actually really, really happy with it", before bowing her head on the keyboard to exclaim: "Oh my God!"
Emerson's opinion: This could be interpreted to mean anything. I still don't believe Harry will die.

I can't believe she's going to kill Harry...thats so awful. =(
I feel conflicted. I've been really looking forward to reading this book, but if Harry dies at the end, I'm not sure I want to read it after all.
aristali: the problem is with that youtube video where JKR says the trio will survive is that she could have changed her mind. Remember she said two characters she didn't intend on dying originally now do so that could be any one of the trio. I am more worried that Ron or Hermione will die now. Those are the two characters I don't want to die the most. They are my favorite characters and this doesn't come from a shipping standpoint but just because I just like their characters. I don't want Harry to die either but I would be more okay with it then Ron or Hermione dying.
Very sad but predictable. He's the savior-figure of the story and those guys normally don't make it out alive. Most people make the mistake of assuming that "neither can live while the other survives" is a continuation of the earlier line about how either Voldemort or Harry have to kill each other. I think it has a double meaning, because if you take it literally it doesn't make much sense, at least at first. The easiest interpretation is that there is some kind of mechanism by which Harry destroys Voldemort's soul but sacrifices himself in the process. Voldemort kills Harry, but it's a hollow victory because Voldemort's body survives as a husk without a soul or consciousness -- just like Barty Crouch Jr., who readers of this series will remember was described as "worse than dead." As Dumbledore noted, Voldemort doesn't understand that there are things much worse than death. Harry dies. Voldemort "survives" -- as a mockery.
I KNOW Ron's going to die! There's all that foreshadowing, and if he doesn't die and Harry does, I'm going to vomit. I read the other day on the wikipedia page for deathly hallows (yes, i know, that's a little dorky), that in a 1999 interview Jo said that one of Harry's classmates will become a Hogwarts teacher, but it's not who we think. And she ruled out Ron. "Die, Ron, Die!"
i think harry will die. i really dont want him to at all (and not just because im in love with him and daniel radcliffe) but there is a lot behind that theory. if he does die, i have a feeling i will be one of the people who will "absolutely loathe" book seven. :( i really really dont want him to die!!!!! and i agree with Clean0002, one of the trio dying would be very depressing, and not only to r/hr shippers (which of whom i am not, h/hr all the way baby!!!) but to anyone who actually read the harry potter series of books. :(
*thinks* Please let me love it...please let me love it.....
I think that Harry has got to die. I mean, im expecting it. As much as i do not want this to happen im almost possitive its going to. I hope the weasly twins dont die, because i love them way too much. And i think Ron got reprived. Lupins going to die and so is wormtail. And, i hope ginny dosent die!!! And Ron and Hermione get married and have lots of little weasly babies!!!!!!!!
actually she said that about HBP as well, she said that many people wouldn't like it. she said it in a FAQ question of something, I can't find the exact quote at the moment, although I think it was relatively close to the release date
Well....fans were upset that Sirius was killed off...... and they were upset that Dumbledore was too..... I will be very upset if Harry...or any of the trio is killed.
I think it's funny that the press automatically assumes she's going to kill off Harry just because she says people may loathe it ... that means absolutely nothing, she very well could kill off any one of the trio and she KNOWS people will have a hard time accepting that. Heck - she really could kill off any character and someones going to be upset. Even if it's the giant squid! But that article got it wrong - she was crying over one of the LAST chapters, but not THE last. Which means, towards probably the climax of the book - something bad is going to happen. :(
heres a list of who dies~ harry ron either fred or george hagrid malfoy l una mcgonagall arthur lupin here is who becomes a teacher~ neville-herbolo gy here is who is good~ snape!!!!!!!!!!!! here is who should die but doesnt~ voldy lucius malfoy bellatrix narcis sa here is who does die but shouldnt~ ron luna har ry hagrid mcgonagall fred or george just a small list i made of what i think will/should happen also~ who should be harry/dans girlfriend~ ME!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!
Lots of people will loathe it if Snape turns out to be bad when they believe him to be good. Sort of how the Hermione/Harry shippers loathe parts of Half-blood Prince. It doesn't have to be that Harry dies. I think that he will live.
Whoa, did anybody notice the guy who just posted the Chapter Names? I know you can't believe everything you read, but I saw a few at the beginning and end (against my wishes!) and they seem pretty creative. (Don't look at them though) to be made up. I hope this doesn't mean someone's leaking info from the book!
Let me just be one to say that I KNOW random angry idiots will pollute Mugglenet with their uncalled for RUBBISH on "7586 reasons why JK Rowling should be excecuted" after they read DH, regardless of whether Harry dies or not. So.. difficult though it might prove, I will refrain from comment boards such as this immediately following my finishing of DH. Because for real, I'm sick of hearing it. The books no longer aim to please, they aim to make a point. JKR likes REALITY CHECKS, like it or not. I know how it feels to be disappointed with an HP book.. I was for the last 2. She knows that the books, clever though they are, are fiction, but she likes to twist little life lessons that WE can use into them, and I for one appreciate her stories. We all should, because we can all relate to them in one way or another. If, by chance, you happen to be one of these potential random angry idiots with the sole intent of destroying MN comment thingys with your angst, I ask you to please.........PLEASE.... ...PLEASE refrain from doing so. For everyone's sake. Because no one else cares what you think, really.
Come on... do you really think she will... really. Torture this orphaned kid for 11 years. He finds out he is wizard and then is continually tortured by Death Eaters, the Ministry, fellow students, teachers (Snape, Umbridge), and finally Voldemort. Plus to say they have killed everyone he could look as a surogate parent (Dumbledore, Sirius). They most likely will kill at least one of his inner group (Hermoine, Ron, Ginny, Neville, Luna, Fred, George). I think Neville is a corpse to be honest... but he will do it like a hero and his grandmother and family will be prouder than punch. I also think the twins are in trouble. I really dont see her killing of Ron or Hermoine or even Ginny, but I could be wrong this story cannot have a total happy ending. peace... enjoy the book it is our last
yes franceypants i did loathe parts of HPB (especially the end) because of the r/hr shipping in that book. well i kow harry and hermione were never meant to be and they never will be, but i can dream, cant i??? all the evidence points towards r/hr. sorry if i burst anyones bubble but were all old enough to understand right?? just kidding! :) lol
Did anyone else read some of the comments on that article by some of the "adults!" It was disgusting... To think your too good for Harry Potter is to think your too good, for a life and world changing event!
Nooooooooooooooooooooooo! JK Rowling, you can not do this. You can´t kill Harry, you just can´t!!!
I can't wait for the epilogue, though! [for the lucky bastards who DO make it..] I was so excited when I saw it confirmed that there was gona be one.. I've been wondering about that for years, now.
It doesn't necessarily have to mean that Harry is going to die, it could be something else that happens in the book. However I have begun to think that it is very possible that Harry will die.
I don't buy the "JKR's been torturing Harry for years, it would just be awful to kill him" thing. If he has to die to kill Voldemort, he has to die. He's the chosen one, he doesn't get a break just because bad things happened to him before. In fact, the "bad stuff" that happened to him kind of shows how many times he's been close to death and how probable it is that it will happen. Because it's SUPPOSED to happen.
to me it doesn't matter if he lives or dies. i mean i would much rather he live but the story belongs to jo and its how she intended it to be! its her story....and im just excited to read and enjoy it!
Wow you have a morbed view on life if you dont think Harry has lived a tortured life and think that he shouldnt catch a break and live at the end. Maybe live a normal wizard life. I find it difficult to believe that JK would have Harry lose his parents in order for him to live... only to die in the end saving everybody else. It seems a little unfair, but is that her point the world is a cruel place... so be it. I would hope Harry does not become a martyr more than he is already... I think she should reward him with what he wants more than anything (besides his parents being back)... to be normal wizard in the wizarding world...
Here's my opinion about Harry dying...What would it teach us about going through a difficult life and triumphing over evil if Harry died? I mean, he has had such a hard life already it only makes sense to have him live at the end so he gets a chance at a normal life. In a literay sense, that is logical. I just really hope he lives! I'm sure I won't hate the book no matter what though and I am going to be sad to see any character and the series go.
Okay Jk is scaring me now. I dont want ron to die, if he dies, yea i'll 'loath' the book.
dont worry Jo i won't hate it i mean its like impossible to hate HP
Am I the only one who thinks there's a possibility it has to do with Snape? Whether he is "good" or "bad"? Either option would alienate the opposing side.
There is no way I would be able to loathe a HP book. I may be unhappy with a death (as always) or how Harry handles a situation, but I could never loathe it. This IS war. In war, people do die and make bad desicions. No matter what happens, I will always be proud of The Boy Who Lived.
I couldn't imagine loathing one of JK's books. Although, I almost don't want the book to come out, it means the end. =(.
I just hope that Snape won't die!!! But I'm sure that it's going to happen!!! This is wath i think that will happen : Harry (and us) will think that snape is evil all along the book and at the end he will help harry to kill voldemort and he will die!!! NOOOOOO!!!! this would be to easy!!!!!!
Personally, I do not believe that Jo's comment nessecarily means Harry will die. I think that people may lothe the book just becasue the ending may not be the happy one that they want. Let's face it, won't we all be somewhat devestated when we find out that some of the characters that we have all grown to love have died? But, however the series may end, I know that I will still love the fantastical world that Jo has made for us!
If you go onto that page and go down past the article and to the comments, there's this HUGE row going on it's hilarious! They're all insulting each other for stupid things it's soooo funny! As for the actual article, I'm getting really worried now! Please don't kill Harry, Jo, PLEASE! *cries*
Ok, I for one loathe only one thing: THE SERIES IS DONE!! No more new Harry Potter books, the midnite releases, the anticipation and dread as I read each page and know that it will be the last time I will not know whats going to happen. The magic is over. Finite. The end. Its so depressing to think about! :( Didn't JKR say she didn't want anyone else to have the rights to HP? When she dies she can't have the rights anymore, so the only way to make it so no one else can write about HP is to kill the main characters. Just a thought...
...maybe people won't like it because she brings Sirius back and they'll just think it's lame? no?...ok, just wishful thinking on my part. I think she expects people won't like it because they won't like who she choses to kill. My guess is people wouldn't like it because a.) harry dies b.) Snape really isn't a good guy after all c.) Ron or Hermione are dead. I know I'll love it no matter who dies, but I am TERRIFIED!
guess what... to everyone who will "loathe" the book because fictional people die, get a life. i enjoy the stories and all, but if the main character of a book dies, MY life won't be ruined. THE BOOKS ARE FICTION!!!! (not real)
Well, I can't help but say it. If she kills Harry off, I shall think her action as a betrayal to motherhood, and she a woman as cold-hearted as they come. I'm sorry to be so harsh on her but I would feel that she's completely hood-winked me into thinking she was a nice person. Harry's altruism CANNOT be rewarded with death. It would be an exercise of sadism - Nope I really can't see her doing it!
HPgeek4LIFE- thats y we luv them cuz they seem real and so u should get a life, k?
Harry must die in order for Voldemort to die, and I would still see the movies for HBP and DH, even with the knowledge of Harry's death.
(1)I don't have a morbid view of life, I just can tell the difference between the real world and books. "Come on J.K. Rowling, forget about the prophecy and all the little plot details leading up to this moment, and let Harry live! He DESERVES it." Please. (2) I've heard the argument that having Harry die after going through such a difficult life doing the right thing would "teach us nothing." I know this is technically a children's book, but I didn't think so many people would think like children. What in J.K. Rowling's books suggests that she is trying to arrive at a simple moral?? (3) If anything was logical in a literary sense, it would be Harry dying. So many books have the hero die, sacrificing himself for others (all pretty much modeled after the story of Jesus, who died for others' sins). If you want to look at morals again, Harry dying tells you you must make sacrifices to achieve, and if you want something you must put in every ounce of effort you have. As long as evil is defeated, there's a "good moral" in there (if that's really what you're looking for).
Deaths, hmph! Here's a news flash for you: some people might loathe the book if it has too much (or any) H/G action.
It isn't Harry. Though many will definately Loath!!!! it if Ron or Hermione should die. So it will be either Ron.... Hermione.... or both. To loath it will probably mean both. Be prepared people. Buy extra tissue along with the book. I know I will ;). My thoughts: Hermione is either Harry's sister or connected to Harry in some way through their parents. Voldemort finds this out and to cause Harry as much possible pain as he can think of he kills her. Ron is then killed or severly hurt trying to save Hermione/Harry or both. My reasoning: (1) In the past Jo said at first she had it that Harry's parents lived on an Island and that when their house (blew up) that supposedly Hermione's father who lived inland and could see the Potter's house from their home then went to the island on a boat and was the one who found Harry. Then she said she had to re-write the beginning because it told too much of the story and the story would end too soon. Thus Hermione and Harry's connection through their parents. (2) In PoA Jo said it was telling of future events. Rupin went on and on about how Lily had such a big heart and was always defending others. Hermione has constantly done this throughout the books and films. The last being in OoTP. First with how she treats Grawp. Then with how she tries to save the Centure. Thus traits of Lily. (3) How could this be possible. Easy Hermione is 10 months older than Harry. I know plenty of siblings who are only 9 months apart thus 2 months out of the year they are the same age. Hermione is the reason that James was downstairs at the fireplace when Voldemort came instead of being with Lily and Harry. He had sent a (2 year-old) Hermione through the flu to escape knowing that Lily had a spell to counteract the spell Voldemort was ttried to kill Harry with. Harry had to live with the Dursely in order to be protected and Hermione was adopted by muggles so Voldemort wouldn't find out her connection to Harry.
@ Belsito: Actually, it wouldn´t Belsito. If she killed Harry it would be to show that sacrifices must be made in order for things to become better again. She´s a christian so....But make no mistake about it, I do not favour the idea! I expressed my opinion about that 20 comments ago.
I've been speculating that Harry will die...After this..I'm SURE of it :(:(:(:(
Personally I think that Harry will die. Mainly for 2 reasons. 1) JK hasn't written a 'and they all skip off happily into the sunset' sort of series. I do not think Harry will kill Voldemort and then all will be right with the world. As much as some people might wish it, he cannot create world peace, feed the starving millions and all that. As much as we all want it. I do like the theory of Harry sacrifiing his magical powers to thwart Voldy. Its a very Harry sort of thing to do. 2) Jo said that she 'howled and got drunk' when she finished the second to last chapter. If this was just because of finishing the book, surely that would happen at the last chapter.? The only other one she would get that upset about is Hermione. JO has likened Hermione to her mum several times. At the end of the day, these are Jo's books, and she will end the series however she wants. However much it might upset people. I am a 42 yr old mum of 3 in the UK. I love the series so much, Harry has helped chase my dementors away. I have laughed and cried along with everyone else. And I too will be gutted the series has finished but I will continue to be eternally gratefull to Jo for the light she has brought into ours lives. Cheers Jo.
Didnt JKR say something about there not being any funny unknown relations between characters (when debunking the "Voldemort is Harry's Father" theory)? Then again, she also said there were some things we wouldn't be able to guess at. But I really can't see Hermione being Harry's sister, seems kind of unnecessary. That island thing is interesting, though, when did she say that? I never heard about it.
I´ve calmed down, Emerson still doesn´t think that Harry will die!! I´m good. Lol. Uuuoooh....im in extacy here, it´s one WEEK left.
Nevermind, I found the island reference. She never said it would give too much away, she just said it was a horrible idea. So I think that kind of shoots down your theory, sorry.
HPgeek4LIFE-what is ur problem?? what, is there a problem with people having passion for the things that they love? if emerson spartz didnt have a passion for harry potter, mugglenet wouldnt be here for you to make your heartless comments on. and maybe jk rowling is such a good author that the books SEEM real. and who really knows?? anyway, analyzed her comment so much, im not sure if that means about a death at all. im confusing myself. and i agree with whoever said they were sad the series was ending. im actually a bit depressed. i cant see myself without harry potter. you see, im the girl at school who has friends but the people who arent her friends think she is very scary and you should stay away from her because her harry potter obsession is so severe. they also think she has some disease where she freaks out if someone tells her harry will die, and she always carries one of the books with her to school. also, if she ever gets within 10 feet of daniel radcliffe, well, all i can say is, "RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!!!!!!!" please dont let harry die. i know he will.
DUMBLEDORE IS DEAD AS A WEASEL, SNAPE IS AS BAD AS A DIRTBURGLAR, GAMBON LOOKS LIKE AN ORANGUTAN ON CRACK, AND SIRIUS IS AS GONE AS ROADKILL
