JKR: Some people will 'absolutely loathe' Book 7
JKR: Some people will 'absolutely loathe' Book 7 ITV is set to broadcast a documentary on JK Rowling this winter called "A Year in the Life...JK Rowling," and some excerpts from the special have been released.
The author JK Rowling is seen in a forthcoming TV documentary looking over the just-finished version of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on her laptop. She declares: "Yeah, think I've finished."

As an off-camera film-maker offers his congratulations, Rowling, 41, says: "Thank you...yeah, you don't know, it might be rubbish. Some people will loathe it, they will absolutely loathe it. For some people to love it, other people must loathe it. That's just in the nature of the plot."

She adds, "I'm actually really, really happy with it", before bowing her head on the keyboard to exclaim: "Oh my God!"
Ciaran's opinion: When she says readers could potentially loathe the book, it would be because of deaths. And I don't think Jo believes killing off any character(s) other than Harry would spark hate among fans, which could mean... (Consider that she's never said this about a previous book even though very beloved characters have died.)

Emerson's opinion: This could be interpreted to mean anything. I still don't believe Harry will die.

So JKR says some will loathe it for others to love it and so people immediately jump on the ‘oh my god that means harry’s going to die’ bandwagon?! Get a grip, all she’s alluding to is that this is the seventh and FINAL book so there are obviously going to be many discussions closed down such as with the shipping crap from book six…with harry/hermione and ron/hermione shippers, there were people who loathed that and there were people who loved it because they’d been hoping for it…don’t just add this generalised comment to reasons for why you’re ‘oh so certain Harry’s a gonner’, JK is NOT that obvious, she has not been leaving clues as to whether Harry lives or dies up till this point in the media…this is 17 years of her life! She wouldn’t waste a decade of building up suspense as to whether he lives or dies before the books released. HER CLUES ARE IN HER LITERATURE NOT IN WHAT SHE SAYS IN THE MEDIA!!! Remember Harry’s fate is not the only thing which will be resolved in book seven…there are many other things which could be loved/loathed in the finale. To make out that JKRowling would be so obvious as to let slip Harry's fate in a couple of interviews is an insult to her and the Harry Potter world!!!

Shes definetly talking about the deaths. But people will hate it if Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Hagrid, Harry , or any number of other people die. Not nessicarily Harry! Besides, I will love it. I know I will!!!

Posted by Quiscalus Jul 13th 2007

It's so cute the way Emerson is so confident Harry will survive. I would love to see his face expression when Harry dies... :P

well thats probably true that there are guna be ppl who wont lik the buk.its lik with the movies. i thot ootp was prety incredible but thers guna be people who dont lik it. its only natural. im assuming im not goin to expect sum of the ppl who die to actualy die and i wont exactly be extactic if all of a sudden ginny gets murdered but i'll still be in luv with the buks. anyways i agree with emerson that its the ppl who die that are the main cause of why ppl will or wont lik deathly hallows

Posted by bwof Jul 13th 2007

Wow, well, it might be good advice to say that it might be good if that girl stopped carrying the books to school cause they will be there waiting when she gets home. But you are right though, the books do seem real and it´s wonderful to look forward to July 21st to this great extent! :).

Posted by HP_isl0ve7 Jul 13th 2007

I completely agree with ladyH. earlier i comment on how she isnt obvious, we're always saying JKR is NOT an obvious person. But at the same time she was obvious with Ron and Hermionie. So i guess we're just gonna have to wait. But the wait is killing all of us. We are all tired of waiting and we are jumping to conclusings and going back to ideas that may be or may not be true. Either way, its probably gonna come to a surprise to most and they are gonna love it or hate it. Everyone has different choices in books and what they expect.

I'm so looking forward to the 21st....but I'm also dreading it too

Posted by hp_is_knifty Jul 13th 2007

and abt the harry dieing thing...get a grip jkr isnt goin to kill harry.hes the main character even ask the book titles.u kill harry then that makes 17 years of her life and 7 novels a huge waste of time and paper. im sorry but thers no point to making 7 novels about sumone just to kill them in the end. other than being a crappy ending thats also a sign of a crappy writer. the only writer who wud kill of ther main characters in the last buk is lemony snicket cuz hes got the most morbid thot process i hav ever seen...well....read

Of course people will hate the book, or people will hate her because of the book's turnout, at least. People aren't going to blame the book for their fave character's death, they'll blame her. They may hate reading the book, but the book is just paper and printed ink. The only reason there may be, for lack of other ideas at moment, book burnings (*gulps and shudders at thought* never again, never again) is if Harry dies. People will hate that; I know I will. She mainly means that they'll hate the fact that this book is the last one, and, yes, she's also referring to the Harmony shippers, who will finally have to admit that Ron and Hermione are a couple. The outcome should be good, but the fact that she plans to kill off so many characters will make people hate the book.

Posted by bwof Jul 13th 2007

Well as people have commented, there are a number of things that Jo could have thought of while referring to people loathing the book. I for example would have a hard time liking the book if snape turned out to be evil or/and if hermione or ron died...

Posted by ladyH Jul 13th 2007

HP_ISLOVE7: thanks. yes, while R/Hr was laid out as an obvious pairing in the books, that was done intentionally by JKR. The fate of Harry and indeed this entire world that she has created would not be shown to us so blatantly and obviously as to reveal ANYTHING in a few interviews...ultimately JKR has too much fun in watching all of us bicker about whats going to happen...and by god there will sure as hell be suprises...but isnt that the fun of harry potter? All the speculation. Personally I do not believe Harry will die, and i just as strongly believe that JKR has not been hinting at his fate to us in her recent comments.

Posted by 10fthearmy Jul 13th 2007

I AGREE WITH EMERSON THAT HARRY IS NOT GOING TO DIE!!!!!

Posted by Eviegrl941 Jul 13th 2007

Oh no, Harry won't die. She set up Ron and Hermione obviously so that we could anticipate when they'd hook up. She wouldn't blatantly say "People will absolutely loathe it" and pretty much admit "Yea, Harry dies in this book." She may even be referring to the long wait between the final chapter being finished and the release. We've waited for at least 8 months for the release. If elbows don't get thrown by me when I'm getting in line in Barnes and Noble at midnight on the 20th, you'll know I'm sick. She said this when she made the final editing on the book. That's probably, no, definately not it, but it's worth a very weak shot.

Posted by ladyH Jul 13th 2007

bwof: lol no offence but i hope you don't like the book so much then because i sooooo want it to turn out that Snape is evil...he's given Harry so much grief and i want Harry to get his revenge for 7 years of ridiculous bullying!...but if it turns out he is 'good' i'm sure JK will do it in a good way..she's managed to keep me entertained and interested for this long at least, even though there have been things that have happened which i didnt like so much..like the death of my beloved Sirius *sob*..but i do understand it had to be done to further the story...sorry for waffling on

Posted by Belsito Jul 13th 2007

Jo didn't say she 'howled and got drunk'. She said she drank a 'a half-bottle of champagne'. No adult could get drunk on that! I stick by what I said earlier - Harry's death would defeat the purpose of the whole good vs evil theme. I would not ever reread the book or watch the 7th movie - most adult readers have used this series as a safe escape from day-to-day, real-life, ups and downs in the family, work or study (all three simultaneously in my case). I'd be so angry if Harry's killed off. This uncertainty has ruined my excitement for the book - I'm almost dreading it now. How silly would I feel to go to a 'midnight' (1 a.m. in my case) party to celebrate Harry's death.

Posted by dawnmariegirl Jul 13th 2007

Some people will loathe the book no matter what happens. If Harry lives, some people will loathe it. It Harry dies, some people will loathe it. This isn't really telling us anything and we'll just have to wait and get the book to know what's going to happen.

Posted by Eviegrl941 Jul 13th 2007

Yea, the movie wouldn't be as well anticipated if Harry dies. I know JK doesn't advertise the movie, but still, she'd have to do something. Even if the movie sold well, any true Harry Potter fan would walk out of the theater bawling because seeing it happen to a living person, even if it's fake, is much harder than reading about it.

Posted by bwof Jul 13th 2007

@ Belsito; Don´t let it ruin your excitement...And besides, I don´t think there are that many fans out there who don´t dread JUly 21st, if not much then at least a little. A question though, would you prefer harry to die in order to sacrifice himself and all that or would you like him to end up like frodo, make it out alive in the end but not really be able to be with his friends anyway? @ ladyH; well, yeah, there sure are many opinions about that one. As long as she makes it good...But I know what I´m hoping for!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Posted by i_loverz_HP Jul 13th 2007

lol thats so funny. yeah harrys so not gonna die i mean everybody loves harry potter this is also i childerns book so i dont think she would do that and that would just be a STUPID way to end that book since harry or voldy have to live and one HAS to die shes not gonna kill of the main character and then voldy will take over and rule the world come on now think about it its so obvious. i mean im gonna pissed and sad when its over just becasue its the last book but who wouldn't?

Posted by mithril95 Jul 13th 2007

I"m not listening to any theories anymore. No more MuggleCast, none of that stuff...I totally love it, but I want to be shocked like I was with HBP. I consider theories spoilers this close to the book...I've been a fan for over 6 years...I'll still check mugglenet but won't read any theories. I'll miss MuggleCast!

Posted by bwof Jul 13th 2007

It would make sense though that voldemort would have been the one who survived and harry died, I mean, that would explain why the world has turned out the way it has during the last couple of years, since 2001 to be more specific. okei, I´m way too tired to spill out a comment like that. Good night. later.

Posted by Nymphadora92 Jul 13th 2007

I don't necessarily think that Jo meant Harry will die when saying some people will loathe the book. It truly could mean anything or maybe she is jsut referring to the amount of deaths that will occur. One thing I know for sure is that I could never ever hate this book. I can't wait!

Posted by chocoholics123 Jul 13th 2007

IT COULD MEAN ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING! it could mean Snape isnt evil- WHICH HE SO IS!

Posted by dashofmagic Jul 13th 2007

i think she meant that some people will absolutely loathe it because it is the ending. yes, she hasn't said it about any other book because no other book was the conclusion. people are geared toward hating a thing that doesn't end the way they want it to. and would anybody love it if harry died? highly doubtful!

Posted by juddx030 Jul 13th 2007

i think that it is obvious that someone will die in this book but i don't think that jkr was refering to deaths when she said some will loathe it. she meant the plot.. this could be refering to a number of things. i am positive that good will triumph over evil. that is an important part to the book. i'm anticipating something bittersweet.. like voldemort will die but something will happen to harry as well... harry will die, harry will lose his powers, harry will experience something that will change and/or ruin his life.. he won't come out of this untouched. so like i said, i think that this loathing jkr refers to would be out of what will happen to harry throughout the book, not just his death.

Posted by Startori Jul 13th 2007

Bwahahahahaha! The whole book will be written in Parseltongue and EVERYONE will die and everyone will loathe it! (Startori hides behind Superman's invunerable body avoiding the glares and poisoned darts from the other mugglenetters.)

Posted by Orcagirl_78 Jul 13th 2007

Hmm, after reading most of the comments, I have to say that I definitely agree with the majority of people who worry that Harry is going to die. While that would be a crappy end to the series, I honestly don't think that that will be the case. I don't see how Jo can have this incredible build-up towards the end and have Harry go through SO MUCH and NOT give him a chance at happiness with Ginny. It would be TOO cruel. While she HAS killed off beloved characters, I really don't think that Harry will be one of them. I think she's referring to some of the other deaths. Oh, well. At least we only have one more week until we find out! ;)

Posted by thediarywithin Jul 13th 2007

omg...I can't believe in just a week I get to decide my feelings on this last book. I can't wait...I am sure I will love it like I have the other books.

Posted by axlgirl Jul 13th 2007

Ooooohhh... I'm scared. I'm really scared now.....

Posted by mnemosyne23 Jul 13th 2007

I think it would be impossible for me to loathe this book. About the only thing that would make me loathe it would be if JKR filled every page with Martha Stewart's recipe for apple crumble; not a fan of apple crumble. Otherwise, I'm pretty bent on loving every living word. Of course, some people might loathe it because a certain pairing which shall remain nameless doesn't come to fruition. Then again, that could be the case for any number of potential pairings in the series, not just the one I'm thinking of. People tend to get very protective and emotionally involved where their favorite couples are concerned; I'm certainly no different. But short of turning Fleur into a Death Eater and having her flay Bill alive, I can't think of anything JKR could write that would make me so angry that I end up despising the book. :)

Posted by Scarface7 Jul 13th 2007

mnemosyne23, I agree with you about more people being upset about couples. I'm sure there are any number of people who would loathe the book if Hermione ended up with Krum, Ginny with Malfoy, or Harry with Ms. Norris compared to if a major character dies . . . Go figure.

Posted by loonyLuna01 Jul 13th 2007

crazy.

Posted by bwof Jul 13th 2007

Haha, ginny with malfoy, now that would be a successul marriage...

Posted by CHEERLEADERxBABAY Jul 13th 2007

Personally, I think Harry will die. I don't want him to of couse, just like everyone else, but sadly, I think he will. Or both Harry and Voldemort will die. Either way, I'm going to cry. Lol.

Posted by xxxstinacakess Jul 13th 2007

Ok. If you seriously are worrying about the end of the series being "crappy" if Harry snuffs it, then you obviously are just listening to the narrow-minded idiots leaving comments left and right. Has it not occured to you that MAYBE Harry won't die of a freak hippogriff stampede, and maybe if he does die it would be for something a little more worthwhile? If you remember in the OotP book, Dumbledore says very VERY clearly to Voldemort that there are many things worse than death, and that Voldemort's failure to understand that was always his biggest weakness. Those of you worrying about DH's "crappiness" because of Harry's death have this same problem. Harry has always been, from the moment he stepped foot in Hogwarts and realized there were actual people in the world worth caring about, unfathomably loyal to everyone around him. UNFATHOMABLY. There is NO way he would let Voldemort kill off his friends one by one until Harry did whatever it was he wanted him to do. Nor would he give in to Voldemort. I think that is extremely likely that Harry dies as a sacrifice. This sacrificial thinking of Harry's becomes canon evidence in OotP, where even Hermione realizes he has a "saving-people thing." Come on, guys. Get a life.

Posted by hplover27 Jul 13th 2007

i dont care if she says some people will hate it. i know i will love it

Posted by maki Jul 13th 2007

It doesn't matter who dies or who ends up with whom...I'll love it anyways bc after all this is HER world and we are the ones that became part of it... if she wants hermione to marry the giant squid...um...well then, she knows why... and I wouldn't cry ONLY if harry dies...I would HOWL if any of the trio does, and certainly a tear would scape my eyes if ginny does, not to mention so many other characters that I can't think of now... CANT WAIT!!! cant believe ootp is already out and we're now waiting for DH

Posted by xxxstinacakess Jul 13th 2007

I ALREADY HAVE POST-POTTER DEPRESSION

Posted by tristero07 Jul 13th 2007

hp_is_knifty, that has to be one of the worst arguments I've heard for Harry living. Ask the book's title, I'll do that. You know, in Hamlet and Macbeth both main title characters die. But that's because Shakespeare was a CRAPPY AUTHOR of course...Actually, all the arguments I've heard that Harry has to live are really superficial and bad. Theme parks don't cut it for me.

Posted by member_of_SPEW Jul 13th 2007

I'll probably get torn apart for this, but I think a major reason people could loathe HP is because of the themes. The first six books have been undeniably but opaquely Christian. I think that DH will be even more so, as transparent as the Narnia series by C. S. Lewis (one of JKR's favorite authors; I remember reading somewhere that she is addicted to the Chronicles to the point of 'not being physically able to be in the same room as a Narnia book without reading it'). I know that this will freak some people out; I think that this is what she was referring to. - "She adds, "I'm actually really, really happy with it", before bowing her head on the keyboard to exclaim: "Oh my God!"" - Anyone else think that could have been more of a prayer than an exclamation?

Posted by REMiiSAHMAZiNGx4 Jul 13th 2007

OMG IF SHE KILLS HARRY I WILL BE SOO MAD!! I WILL HAVE TO END UP KILLING SOMETHING!

Posted by ellenfreak3 Jul 13th 2007

I hope Harry dies!! *crosses fingers*

Posted by rggr9728 Jul 13th 2007

i don't think that Harry will die, but even if he does, i will still love the books!

Posted by stargazerlois Jul 13th 2007

I love and hate the end of all good books I read. All I knowis I better buy a box of tissues when I pick up the book next week. And Harry can't die. He has to have happiness in his sad little life.... So kiss Ginny and live on!

Posted by Norn Jul 13th 2007

I'm not even going to go to the harry potter or buy the book when it comes out, like in sept I'll buy it. Why? cus Of the god awful parents.. they have made the party too over populated and too annoying..they are rude and unforgiving...makes me not even want to parents..
