JKR: Some people will 'absolutely loathe' Book 7
JKR: Some people will 'absolutely loathe' Book 7 ITV is set to broadcast a documentary on JK Rowling this winter called "A Year in the Life...JK Rowling," and some excerpts from the special have been released.
The author JK Rowling is seen in a forthcoming TV documentary looking over the just-finished version of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on her laptop. She declares: "Yeah, think I've finished."

As an off-camera film-maker offers his congratulations, Rowling, 41, says: "Thank you...yeah, you don't know, it might be rubbish. Some people will loathe it, they will absolutely loathe it. For some people to love it, other people must loathe it. That's just in the nature of the plot."

She adds, "I'm actually really, really happy with it", before bowing her head on the keyboard to exclaim: "Oh my God!"
Ciaran's opinion: When she says readers could potentially loathe the book, it would be because of deaths. And I don't think Jo believes killing off any character(s) other than Harry would spark hate among fans, which could mean... (Consider that she's never said this about a previous book even though very beloved characters have died.)

Emerson's opinion: This could be interpreted to mean anything. I still don't believe Harry will die.

Ulimately Harry's living or dying will not be a reason to love or loathe this book. JK is referring to the idea that you cannot please everyone. No matter how the book plays out, there are going to be those who love it and others who hate it. While I find it hard to believe any true HP fan could hate one of the books, that does not mean that others will not despise it. The nature of the books and the fun we have all had with our theories, conspiracies, and ships make us feel uniquely linked to these stories. So if in the end the books do not go the way we had hoped we will naturally be disappointed, and many people may be downright angry. I know it is not the same, but many people were just as polarized with the OotP movie. Many people loved it, while some were rather displeased. It all goes back to our perception of how the events play out. I sincerely hope JK does not kill Harry, but I have come to terms with the fact that it is likely he and at least one other member of the trio may die. As long as Voldemort ends up dead, or worse, I will be satisfied with the conclusion.

I WILL loathe the book if Hermione dies, I mean I will seriously throw the book out of my window, after I sob for days....I don't want Hermione to die! Or Harry or Ron or Fred or George, the rest can be gone....no that sounds kind of mean...I just don't want the characters earlier mentioned to die! I don't know what i'll do...*wipes away tear*

Posted by poweroflove Jul 13th 2007

I know I will love the book no matter the outcome but if harry does die i will be crushed.

Posted by arabesque Jul 13th 2007

i hope i'll be one of the ones who love it! i still don't believe harry will die either. wooo, emerson!

Posted by kula_melike Jul 13th 2007

maybe it wont be harry that will die, i sure hope not.. i will feel like something inside of me is empty is harry, ron or hermione dies.. who knows if dumbledore said there are far more worse things than death then maybe it isnt, but then again.. thats a good thing to ponder about.. i will still love the book whatever the outcome is... 7 days left!!!!

Posted by fawkeslament Jul 13th 2007

I believe that the book is going to be another awesome acheivement. No matter what happens i know i can say this for everyone in which it is something thats going to affect us since this is the end of the magical adventure we've all embarked on. Though i belive in certain theories of whats going to occur, I think J.K Rowling is going to suprise us, she has suprised us within deaths of the last two previous books and i belive in DH she will suprise us in which it was what we least expected. I honestly cant wait til I get my copy.

Posted by cuj0 Jul 13th 2007

No matter what happens, I'll still love it. She gave us six other wonderful books, how can we not love this one? Are we fans or not? Only a week left!!!!! I'll be so sad when it's over.. I'll read the book over and over again lol.

mmmm...it's very clear now ... farewell,harry !! :(:(:(

I agree with Emerson--a lot of people believe that Harry will die, and if he doesn't, then some people will be angry. People will be angry no matter what. I mean, it's the end of the series, and if people don't like how it ends, then they don't have another book to wait for to see if Jo redeems herself. Personally, I'll support whatever ending Jo writes. It's her story, however she chooses to end it is how it should end.

Posted by mugglequeen Jul 14th 2007

Emerson I totally agree. I mean HBP was my least favourite book out of all the series and i'm re-reading it for next saturday.. however much i am struggling through it i still enjoy it and accept what will happen obviously has to happen and is right in JKRs mind.

Should this be listed as a possible spoiler?

Harry is not going to die, here are the 7 reasons why! 1. Harry has too much love in him to die. Voldemort's one weakness besides death is love. 2. The cover art for the US Book 7 has a gold background. Harry's on the cover. Isn't gold a color that symbolizes victory? And Harry's surrounded by gold. So Harry will survive that battle. 3. Why in JK's right mind would she want to kill her most beloved character?! 4. Voldemort had trouble possesing Harry in the OoTP book. If he can't control Harry (or kill him with AK for that matter) how can he kill him? 5. Harry's survived 4 encounters with Voldy so far. If Voldy couldn't kill him then, how could he kill him now? 6. Um, Voldy's made horcruxes. Harry has destroyed the diary and Dumbledore has destroyed the ring. Harry's seen the locket, and Voldy himself is a horcrux. Harry's scar is NOT A HORCRUX, so having to destroy the locket, Nagini, and something belonging to the four founders aside from Slytherin. Once they are destroyed (which hopefully will be easy for our hero) Harry will have no problem defeating the dark lord. 7. Neville is part of the prophecy, too! Maybe Neville will sacrifice himself for his friend. Neville could have a scar, somewhere underneath his clothes, perhaps. How his parents (and Harry's, for that matter) thrice defied Voldy is still to be revealed. Now my rant is over.

Posted by DanielRadcliffeIsSEXY Jul 14th 2007

Harry will defeat Voldy using the power of love. Voldy dies. Hermione dies protecting Ron from Death Eaters, especially Lucius. Malfoy runs from the death eaters, but gets caught and is killed. Snape tries to stop Voldemort and Harry from fighting, but gets killed in the midst of the battle. Bellatrix and Lucius do die, due to the power of the Order (led by McGonagall and Moody.) Since Harry's parental figures, the Weasley parents, are in the front lines, some death eaters kill Molly and Arthur. Lucius kills Arthur, and out of grief Molly commits suicide. Harry and Hermione try to comfort Ron. During the final battle, Neville sacrifices himself to save his best friend Harry from death. Fulfilling the prophecy, Harry destroys all the horcruxes (none of which are himself) and defeats Voldemort. As Voldemort falls and takes his final breath, Harry's scar finally fades away to nothingness. As sunset falls on the battlegrounds of a graveyard, Harry is alerted by McGonagall that Hermione died protecting Ron. Luna is the flower girl for Harry and Ginny at the big final wedding, with the Weasley twins marrying the Patil twins, and Harry and Ron finishing up their 7th year. At the end of the book, with Snape dead, McGonagall chooses Harry, now 25, to teach DADA like he taught the DA for a year. Harry declines, with Ginny having a baby any day now and Ron (whose wife ends up being Gabrielle Delacour,) playing for the Chudley Cannons (who finally win a championship!)

I trust Jo 100%, and I fully believe this book will be amazing. One week from tonight!

Posted by thesilentcat Jul 14th 2007

i really dont want harry to die, who does right? but if you really think about it, he might die. He might try to save his friends over himself, he might be horcrux (which i doubt), he might not be able to kill Voldemort, or anything can happen. For all we know he might not be killed by Voldemort but ambushed by Death Eaters and that werewolf bloke ( i forget his name) might tear him apart. Its grissly but i doubt he would die though. Hes too loved for his friends ( young and adult) to watch him fall to the ground, limp, and lifeless. If he does die i hope Jo describes in detail how much everyone is grieving, cause if im crying...I want them to be too! I dont think he will die, but im ready for it. from me and everyone else here, before we read the last book we should at least say or yell....Good Luck Potter!, dont ya think? -Gus

Posted by rubys007 Jul 14th 2007

My prediction: Ron will die. It's forshadowed in book one with the chess game where he "sacrifices" himself for Harry and Hermione to go on. Hermione isnt meant to be with anyone and Harry is meant to be with Ginny. We will never really know what side Snape is on, for sure, I think. Voldy will be defeated- but perhaps not killed which will show Harry's goodness- because Voldy will kill Ron and he will WANT to AK him, but in the end can't and this will be how "love" is his power and this will defeat Voldy. People are always sacrificing themselves for Harry- his mom, Sirius, Dumbledore, and now, I think it will be Ron. I think Hermione will go on to teach at Hogwarts too. And Harry and Ginny will be Aurors. Just my 2 cents.

Posted by HPfanatic71 Jul 14th 2007

What the heck kinda of life would it have been for Harry if he ends up dying. I must say a real suck ass one. I'll be very sad and dissapointed if he dies in the end. I just can't see how that'll benefit the whole series. He's gotta get a happy ending. I'm tossing the books in the fireplace this winter if he dies!!!

Posted by _Narcissa_ Jul 14th 2007

I will love the book no matter what happens, there have been some things that have happened in the past books that I did not particularly like but that is what makes the book what it is and those things have to happen. I trust Jo will do a great job in the last book (just like all the others) and I know I will love it.

Posted by McGonagall_Rules Jul 14th 2007

While I've been a die-hard HP fan since the beginning, it always surprised me how emotionally attached some of the mugglenet posters are. While I can understand "wanting" certain things to happen (remember the shipping arguments and the fall-out from Jo's delusional comments or some crazed HP fan committing suicide because he's heard a spoiler before having HPB?), at the risk of sounding trivial and condescending, the HP series IS JUST A BUNCH OF BOOKS... WORKS OF FICTION!!! Wonderful, fabulous books, yes, but fiction nonetheless. That being said, I recall reacting in horror when Ron ingested the poison in HBP, and then calming down when Harry shoved the bezoar in his mouth... So while I'm not totally devoid of understanding emotional attachments to a book or its characters, I just can't wrap my head around letting a book of fiction rule my life to such extremes. No matter how DH plays out, it is guaranteed to give rise to strong emotional reactions, good and bad... just the other books in the series and their respective movie versions have done (Case in point the OoTP movie: hubby loved it, I was very disappointed. He has never read the books, while I have, so my expectations were much higher and thus, more likely to be unfulfilled.) In closing, I just want to thank JK Rowling for providing me and readers around the world with many truly enjoyable hours of fun, entertainment and wonder... it was like having a second childhood. When my daughter is old enough to read, I hope she'll enjoy my HP books as much as I did. For the time being, she loves watching CoS over and over again and I enjoy her giggles during the Basilisk scenes (go figure!).

Posted by harry_p_7 Jul 14th 2007

i would luv it no matter what. but i dont think harry will the the "sacrifice" example. i think ginny will be the example and she will die. and i think that either voldemort will die, or something to him thats worse than death will happen to him all thanks to harry. i just think that there are 4 main people who i am perparing myself if they die. ~Ron~Hermione~Ginny~And Snape~. i dont think harry will die, i mean thinkabout it. when jo started out she thought, ok im going to write about a boy, make his life misrable, and then kill him??!?! i mean thats cruel and wouldnt make sense to me, if he dies i will cry for the rest of my life. not every day, but every time i think about the truely amazing novels *wipes tears from eyes* but no matter what ill absolutely love this book.

Posted by Bettiina Jul 14th 2007

The only way I could "loathe" the book is if Ron sacrifices himself for Harry and dies and Harry and Hermione got married. *shivers* Ron & Hermione need to get together and live!

Posted by snapesgirl Jul 14th 2007

i dont want any of the good guys to die ={ im gna go though an emotional grieving time when this series ends!!!!! i cant wait!!! but i dont want it to come!!! im sooooooo torn!!!!!!!! *bursts into tears* omg omg omg omg omg omg omg 7days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!

Posted by snapesgirl Jul 14th 2007

agree with bettiina

Posted by Smithy46 Jul 14th 2007

OMG, rubys007, if your prediction comes true, I'll be sobbing like mad. I won't hate the book, but I'll be really really sad. I

Posted by bEtHyBoP13 Jul 14th 2007

i agree with emerson but whatever! we'll find out in a week :)

Posted by ickyvicky1006 Jul 14th 2007

if Emerson says that Harry is not going to die...well that is enough evidence for me. :) Harry wont die. Rowling could have meant anyone since many of the characters are loved anyone.

Posted by SomebodyElse Jul 14th 2007

jt7377: you're right. Part of the fun of HP is coming up with elaborate conspiracy theories--it's like writing for The Quibbler. Also, as it says in the article, two much-loved characters have died and no one HATED it. (I was more mad about Snape, actually, which I know is incredibly sad.) McGonagall_Rules pointed out that it's going to shatter our beloved theories and no one likes that. I really don't want to hate it. But even if I don't like the answers to the accumulated mysteries, it's JKR's universe and she can write whatever she wants. Plus, we've had an experience no one else will ever have--being able to read the books without knowing everything.

Posted by fantasy_world Jul 14th 2007

I really think that Harry will die....evan if I don't agree...:(((why???waaaaa. .:-<

Posted by lil_kitty22 Jul 14th 2007

i like emersons statement ;)

Posted by jbritz2 Jul 14th 2007

There was a comment on how people would be mad if Hagrid died (amongst all the other good characters). I will actually be happy if Hagrid dies. Maybe I am in the minority, but if he dies I won't be that upset. His character has run its course. Who will become the teacher? The first guess I had was Harry would be the DADA teacher but that is too obvious... my guess is Neville will be come the herbology teacher. I have re listened to all the books (Jim Dale is awesome). There are several instances of where she mentions things for no apparent reason; the locket. Does anyone else think Zachrias Smith is related to Helzabah Smith and Helga Hufflepuff? Will he have a significant role in the book? I wonder who else is related to the founders... I have always speculated that the Weasleys are related to Gryffindor but I am sure that would have come out by know... When does the bar keep at the Hog's Head get revealed as Aberforth Dumbledore? Where is Regulus Black... is he really dead... or is Alfard hiding him is Alfard Dead? just some random thoughts... just some random thoughts....

Posted by ihearthp Jul 14th 2007

i agree with you emerson! harry can't die! good must defeat evil! and if the hero dies...that would be kind of typical.....i think three of the people who might die are hagrid, ron, and snape! :( soo sad!!!

Posted by ihearthp Jul 14th 2007

well...if snape dies it wont be sad... ^^^

Posted by ekelliw Jul 14th 2007

Of course some people will loathe the books. Some hated the other books, didin't they. Jo can't please everyone. I'm sure though that I will love it. It doesn't mean Harry dies. Ah well. Only a couple of days and the we will know. Can't wait.

Posted by abigler_06 Jul 14th 2007

I think that she's going to kill off Ron. She said that many of his characteristics are like her best friend, Shaun... and I think she would be crying like a baby if she killed him. And in the first book, Ron sacrificed himself to let Harry go on to battle You-Know-Who.

Posted by snuffles_black96 Jul 14th 2007

no matter what jkr says ill love it ill be the last to because so many people before me read it an my sister is going to kill me if i read it first actually i think i might read it at the same time

Posted by padfoot186 Jul 14th 2007

Ha ha, loathe... oh goody. Can't wait to read it.

Posted by Elenion Jul 14th 2007

I think a lot of people might not like if their wonderful theories are proven wrong. And perhaps even when the ideas were really well thought of - the Snape character being a perfect example. And the death of Harry is quite too obvious answer. JKR likes to surprise people. Anyway, Harry's fate has been decided at least some ten years ago. So if he dies, it will be for the sake of plot, and not to make a sharp end of the series.

Posted by ebhpfan07 Jul 14th 2007

i personally think that harry will live, voldemort will die. you just can't end a series if the dark lord takes over and there's all these deaths everywhere. if you think about it, that's not an ending at all. actually, maybe harry will die, but death eaters and voldemort will most likely be triumphed over. i'm willing to keep an open mind about it all, but i just don't think that jo could possibly EVER end a book w/ such a terribly unfinished ending. it just leaves everyone hanging too much. idk... that's just what i think will probably happen. eiter way, i know i will absolutely LOVE DH and that i'll be happy w/ w/e jk rowling possibley has to write.

Posted by cellopower Jul 14th 2007

The only way I'll hate the 7th book if it ends in a "it was all a dream" way. Oh my god what if voldemort was about to kill Harry .... and then he woke up. please don't do that to us jo! :O

Posted by MuggleLuvr Jul 14th 2007

OMG!!!! How exciting! I have to agree with Emerson though...this could mean ANYTHING!!!! it's not written in stone that harry has to die! I;m sure though, that whatever happens I'll be one of the fans who will absolutely adore Deathly Hallows! sheesh... i really am excited!

Posted by hpluver123 Jul 14th 2007

i know i will just be sad because it is the end!

Posted by cellopower Jul 14th 2007

Has anyone had any dreams about the 7th book? I had one where I bought the book and it was about 5 pages long. Then I had another one where my piano teacher was trying to sell one to me a week before Deathly Hallows came out. My friend said she had the same one I had about the book being really short. Has anyone else had any dreams?

Posted by Mrsroonil_wazlib Jul 14th 2007

haaha i had a dream about DH! I got the book and ther was words in it but all i can remember was Malfoy killed Kreacher or something. It was just a dreaqm though.the funny part about it was that i woke up and actually thought i had the book...

Posted by pshorty Jul 14th 2007

that just confirms my theory of harry dying even more... i'll love it nonetheless. Jo's my hero.

Posted by ox1 Jul 14th 2007

Oh I know what this means! Herons will "loathe" the book and Harmony will sail yeeeah...

Posted by horcruxseven92 Jul 14th 2007

omg..... it doesnt mean anything... i have plenty of friends that HATE harry potter... and i have plenty of friends that HATE at least one of the books... its natural... duh!

Posted by mini_deatheater Jul 14th 2007

I do not see how you could loathe a harry potter book. even it does not end happliy or something like that i have a secret desire for harry to die and ron kill voldemort and then hermionie loves him and how would that make people loathe the book who likes harry anyways again it is all opinion

Posted by felixfelicis888 Jul 14th 2007

some people have the dumbest comments here. anyways, the trio is going to live people. I don't get how some of you guys are like 'ron's gonna die' or ' harry needs to die'. I MEAN TO ME THEIR LIKE FRIENDS!!!! HOW COULD ANYONE WANT THEM TO DIE? (besides voldy)

Posted by Bellatrix81 Jul 14th 2007

i will love it.. thats for sure... but i will be angry of course if hermione, ron or harry die... i dont think harry will die
