The Guardian reveals opening of Deathly Hallows?
With extreme caution for lack of authenticity, we bring you this article from The Guardian's online website. It holds, what they say, is the opening to Deathly Hallows dated October 23rd, 2006.According to their site, this small portion can be seen in video from the upcoming JK Rowling documentary we told you about a few days ago.
We've posted it in the black area below in case it is removed from The Guardian's website. Highlight in between the arrows if you wish to read.
-->'Chapter One. The Dark Lord Ascending. The two men appeared out of nowhere, a few yards apart in the narrow, moonlit lane. For a second they stood quite still, wands pointing at each other's chests: then, recognising each other, they stowed their wands beneath their cloaks and set off, side by side, in the same direction.
"News?", asked the taller of the two.
"The best," replied Snape.'<--
Please remember that it is still unknown as to whether or not this is real. Interesting, nonetheless. Thanks to everyone who e-mailed with the tip!
Emily's edit: I emailed Andrew saying I didn't think the excerpt was real. Here's why: There is a mixture of British/English grammar - the British spelling of "recognise" and the American use of "a few yards." There are also odd punctuation errors - a colon after "chest" and then ?", when only a question mark before the quotation mark would be used. Would Jo really make these errors? We'll find out soon.

wel then im nt up on aussie lingo!
looks as though it goes straight from the end of HBP cool hope it's real can't wait we're gettin fire eaters and magicians at our launch
Deathly Hallows. Deathly Hallows. Deathly Hallows. chyeah im doing like an indian chant right about now.
nope, sounds faked to me
I bet the 'best' news is the fact that he killed Dumbledore. Evil Snape. Grrr ...
AH! I ran to my computer when my brother told me this was posted. I was rushing so much I kept messing up "mugglenet.com" by adding extra jumbled symbols in as I was typing to fast. I'm so excited, this is going to be the best book yet.
abhijitdande:: At least Mugglenet doesn't suck you mom's cock like you do everyday.
To be honest, I dont think its weird to start with Snape, cos he disappeared in the sixth book, so its interesting to know where he went, although its pretty obvious. And its not a blunt way to start a book - look at book 5, the start of it was exciting, but this is only the first chapter. The first chapter of book 5 was just talking about Harry lying on the grass, listening to the news! :) ♥
Wasn't the forum closed to prevent spoilers? Yet the possible chapter one opening is posted on the front page?
I agree that if it is authentic then "the best" news is probably referring to Dumbledore's death. *tear* Curse you Snape! *tear*
omg omg omg omg omg omg omg omg!!!!!!!!!! i havent actually read it yet! and im not going to! but the tempation is so great im gonna have to leave all harry potter websites untill ive finished the book. 12:01 on the 21st of july is gonna be the weirdest moment of my life, standing in line not knowing wheather i should just run away and get the book in a few more hours or should i push my way to the top of the line to get it as soon as posible. one thing is for sure: i will not read one single spoiler before i read the book. so goodbye mugglenet see you when i finish the book=)
Doesn't sound real to me. I dunno it just doesn't sound like Jo.
I don't mind it was real! It sounds quite good. Now my anticipation is killing me! Can't wait till Saturday!
I didnt want to read it, but than i did, and it doesnt seem like her style of writing that much, and also, this was from what? a year ago? it might have changed by now. but oh my god, that makes me both want the book to come out right now, AND want to stay locked in my room forever... i dont want the books to end. :(
Posted by chommy 5 minutes ago I bet the 'best' news is the fact that he killed Dumbledore. Evil Snape. Grrr ... Of course that is not the best news: the best news is that he just got an owl in which is said that he is the sole inheritor of 7.5 million Galleon ( 7.500.000) left to him by his distant uncle Aiwaidoulou Redocanian-Snape, the chief director of Gringotts in the Central African state of Kemogribingui and he only need to deposit 500 Galleon to get his inheritance transfered. Sure Voldy will lent him those 5000.
Ok first I had to stop reading all the comments because of a chosen few who keep posting potential SPOILERS!! Mugglenet Can you do something about this PLEASE??!! I'm sorry, but if this info is real, people are posting it in a comments section with no WARNING! Next point, the introduction sounds petty and very American. While the title may be in fact real, as well as a simialr opening; this, I am afraid, is not it. Lastly, The Guardian has posted before ( about a month ago) that he had the ending. Many saw right through it because it was poorly written just as the above quote. As for the link that's being posted...as tempting as it may be, I will NOT go to it. Don't fall for this trap loyal HP fans. If you just can't resist, then avoid this place altogether. It's obvious now, that Mugglenet cannot keep true to their SPOILER policy. I think any who post or attempt to post ANY SPOILER wether real or fake should be banned...that simple.
can't wait to compare ^_^
Wow! I wonder if it's real!
I doubt that's real. It just doesn't sound like JKR
imo, its a feasible start to the book. We've had obscure-ish chapters before...I'm thinking the opening chapter of GOF, and the chapter of HBP where Narcissa and Bellatrix go to Snape... I CANNOT FRIGGIN WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!
After reading this over, I'm thinking it is either, not the very start of the chapter, was rewritten incorrectly, or it is fake. What feels off is two parts of the paragraph, the first being "wands pointing at *each other's* chests: then, recognising *each other*" The word eachother is used twice very close together, this just feels clumsy to me. The second which really throws me off is where it says, "The best, replied Snape." It just says Snape. None of this "the man called Severus/Snape" which is what she usually does when the character's have never directly been introduced. She wouldn't assume the reader knows Snape, even though we all do.
I dunno, I think it might be fake. There's something about the way it's written that makes me think it's a hoax.
leanansidhe: they never said anything about not posting spoilers. they said they would just heavily WARN you, and if you do not want to read it you do not have to.
Nah...must be fake. It's too similar to the beginning of chapter two ('Spinner's End') in the HBP...
hmmmmmmmmmmmmm i had to read it. couldn't resist. wasn't going to but yea..... i did anyway. i have no will power. anywho.... rather interesting. the writing style feels a little clipped and choppy for it to be JK's. i'm suspicious. I agree with coleygirl. it's a little blunt and harsh and lacking the description we've come to expect from Jo. hm. have to wait and see won't we? only five more days!!!!
omg its so cool but thank God it dosent give enything awy
I remember accidentally stubbling across the chapter titles of the sixth book the night before the release on a forum, and saying to myself "Horace Slughorn, what kind of stupid name is that? These are definately not the chapter titles." On second thoughts and twenty- four hours later, prehaps Horace Slughorn was not such a stupid name. I read the above spoiler and I think it does sound like something that may come from the novel. I was a bit anxious, what if it revealed something huge? But I trust Mugglenet not to post Harry- changing, series- ending spoilers. Spoilers are like junk food for me, they are OK in moderation. If I deprived myself, I would probably go metal and binge on one of these blog sites.
its not real she would not say "snape" in an intro like that
I'm trying to figure out which male cahracter's taller than Snape. The only ones I can think of are like Hagrid, Karkaroff (dead) and Dumbledore!! Anyone I'm missing? Hopefully that's a good character he was talking to... for some reason I get the feeling it was. Like he's still spying and giving them good news about the death eaters
I can't decide if this is a fake or not. It seems real.....
you know mugglenet, you said months ago that you were not going to post ANY spoilers. well you lied. Jo is probably very upset with you now
*Cries* I was actually NOT going to read it, but whilst I was reading the Guardian's report, I couldn't believe they'd actually type it out THERE. I managed just to see 'Snape' (since he's my absolute favourite character), and I cried out in anger. I can't resist Snape! :'( Lol. So yeah, decided to read it afterall considering ... well ... Snape's Snape. ;) Very interesting read if it IS true though. I think J.K. will be upset though that most of us have got a glimpse of the start already. I really wanted to remain unknown to it as well ... Right, I'm never going to lay my hands on the Guardian EVER. It's even worse than the Sun now! I'm absolutely angry but thrilled at the same time, lol. *Sigh* Stupid Snape fan girl obsession! Even if he DOES turn out to be on the Dark Lord's side, he'll be sexy still.
It sounds so fake... everything is put so.... There are how many comma's in that sentance?!? And he waited a "second" not a "moment"? Can't be real, unless it is a very early draft.
I couldn't help it... had to read it! I actually thought it sounded pretty believable, especially the chapter title, but even if Jo did write that at first, she might've changed it.
reasons why it is fake: -not JKR's writing style -she wouldn't say "snape" in intro -title does not seem right what i think: -tall man is not V-Mor -they are no doubt in godric's hollow -snape is good, not evil -v-mor and neville will die
NOT READING! I read the chapter title, but thats it.
As much as i would like to believe this is real, it can not be. It uses awkward comma usage in the first sentence, which Rowling has never done, and it uses the phrase "waited a second," which Rowling has also never done. She said "waited a moment." In addtition, the chapter title would properly be titled "The Dark Lord's Ascension," not "The Dark Lord Ascending."

OMFRUDENESS!!!
Sounds fake to me. It doesn't seem like Jo's style of writing.
Well, I'm a sucker for spoilers and couldn't resist reading it. However, I do think it's fake. For starters, if the makers of the documentary had filmed any content of Deathly Haloows, I'm sure J.K would have put an embargo on them, to prevent them relaesing any information before Deathly Hallows is released - she's not stupid! Secondly, it really doesn't seem like J.K's writing style. There's not enough description of the characters or their surroundings, and the language she uses is too American and simple for her style. Maybe I'll be proven wrong in 6 days, who knows. Either way (if it's fake or not), it doesn't give anything major away.
well guys i dont know what to think i found the supposed scans of the book- i dont recommend looking for them, as they have scans to severl pages, including the epilouge, so do not do it- we can wait 5 more days however the scans look extremly real and the chapter title for chapter 1 is what this news post claims it to be so im wondering if the scans are real, they look real enough , including chapter art and all hmmmmm i didnt look at much though- so im not too spoiled i think its time to shut the comp off for thenext 5 days
It's real. The chapter name is the same as the first chapter on the list of chapter titles that was spoiled.
Somehow it doesn't seem like JKR to outright name a character so quickly in a non-harry chapter.
I just read it to see if it sounded real (I actually hate spoilers), and it doesn't to me. *shrugs*
I don't know. Usually JKR would go into a bit more description- it seems kinda rushed.
Lots of you have been bagging mugglenet about going back on their spoiler policy. I mean.... really... i wouldn't call THAT a spoiler. It didn't give anything away if indeed it turns out it's real. OMG sanpes alive! we already knew that! And it isn't as though mugglenet didnt warn you. You had to bloody well highlight the text!
I think the book scans are fake, I think the text is just too big... or maybe the pictures too small. And the way the pages fall on the scanner is just too even and perfect... I classify this as : FAKEAROLA
It's not fake. It might have been changed since then, but it's definitely not fake. The Guardian doesn't make stuff up. If they saw it on the trailer then they saw it.
That's awesome!
