The Guardian reveals opening of Deathly Hallows?
The Guardian reveals opening of Deathly Hallows? With extreme caution for lack of authenticity, we bring you this article from The Guardian's online website. It holds, what they say, is the opening to Deathly Hallows dated October 23rd, 2006.

According to their site, this small portion can be seen in video from the upcoming JK Rowling documentary we told you about a few days ago.

We've posted it in the black area below in case it is removed from The Guardian's website. Highlight in between the arrows if you wish to read.

-->'Chapter One. The Dark Lord Ascending. The two men appeared out of nowhere, a few yards apart in the narrow, moonlit lane. For a second they stood quite still, wands pointing at each other's chests: then, recognising each other, they stowed their wands beneath their cloaks and set off, side by side, in the same direction.

"News?", asked the taller of the two.

"The best," replied Snape.'
<--

Please remember that it is still unknown as to whether or not this is real. Interesting, nonetheless. Thanks to everyone who e-mailed with the tip!

Emily's edit: I emailed Andrew saying I didn't think the excerpt was real. Here's why: There is a mixture of British/English grammar - the British spelling of "recognise" and the American use of "a few yards." There are also odd punctuation errors - a colon after "chest" and then ?", when only a question mark before the quotation mark would be used. Would Jo really make these errors? We'll find out soon.

The links should work, but you have to take out the spaces. And Scruffy, please tell me you're joking. Oh, and to all you people who seem to be defending the fact that the epilogue could be real, think back to all of the other books and what was 'leaked' about them before they were actually released. Now, recall how many of those 'leaks' actually turned out to be true. I rest my case.

Posted by slickstickers Jul 15th 2007

1) The Table of Contents always has 8 chapters listed on the first page and 9 on all of the others, while the alleged leaks have 9 chapters listed with 10 on the others. 2) The shadows on the book, especially those between the pages, are very fake looking. 3) There is no back cover visible where there clearly should be. Instead there are very suspicious looking dark blurs. 4) About ¾ of the way down one of the scans there is an impossible bend in the book that spans both pages. 5) Some pages in the scans are outrageously translucent, but the real Potter pages are relatively thick. 6) Towards the top of the inside flap of the jacket you can tell that it’s WAY too shiny (almost laminated). In extent, the color of the binding is not consistent from scan to scan. 7) The harlequin patterned page that normally appears after the Table of Contents is not there. 8) The epilogue is supposed to explain what happens to those who survive, so unless only 5 people survive… 9) The epilogue sounds like a 5 page Fan-Fiction. The names sound very dodgy. 10) THIS IS THE BIGGIE… THE BOOK HAS 784 PAGES, WHILE THE SCAN ENDS ON SOMETHING LIKE PAGE 759.

WHERE IS THIS LINK???? I WANT TO READ IT!!!!!

Posted by dumbledoreISdead Jul 15th 2007

what really makes these scans convincing for me is the chapter art- its so mary grandpre looking, and i cant fathom of way of how someone could photoshop such convinving pics also, i noticed the flaps of the jacket are extra long-and arthur said they were going to be extra long on the Today Show the only things tha tmake me doubt it is a) people saying how god awful that epilouge is(i havnt read it, for obvious reasons) b) the table of contents goes up to chapter 9 on the first page while all the other books only go to chapter 8 and c) there is a page following the last page of the table of contents thats isnt in all the other books...

Posted by Potterite Jul 15th 2007

The scans are at least fairly well done if they're fakes. Just clear enough to make out a few words on each image. if they're real (which I doubt) they're interesting.

Posted by phantom_phreak Jul 15th 2007

SLICKSTICKERS: thank you. at least someone else has some common sense.

Posted by mcq07 Jul 15th 2007

hi, i just read the "19 years l8r" thing. wish i hadnt read it :( is it real?

Posted by evananthony Jul 15th 2007

That is totally fake!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Sakibou Jul 15th 2007

You just said yourself that it was said on the Today Show that the jacket was going to be extra-long, so anyone else could have found out that information just as easily as you did. As far as the artwork...You're right, it is are very convincing. But, then again, if it WASN'T, then all of the person's hard work would have gone down the drain, because everyone would have known right away that they were fake. Do you honestly think that Mary is the only one who can draw? Whoever made those probably studied her artwork intensively so that they could match it to theirs as closely as possible.

Posted by AnyaMarcos Jul 15th 2007

Snape is still good. I will not change my mind about that until I read the book.

Posted by cobra245063 Jul 15th 2007

Don't put anything past J.K. Rowling. I was very unlucky to come across a jerk in the forums before OoTP came out. There was much debate about weather or not J.K. would really name a character "Luna Lovegood". 'No way that's not her writing style' 'A prophecy??? No way J.K. would write about that!!!' Don't out anything past Mrs. Rowling. She has suprised us before on several occasions. I would not doubt that J.K. would throw us another curve ball.

Posted by jordyn Jul 15th 2007

OKAY...everyone needs to stop flipping out about being spoiled and about the links if you dont want to be spoiled then DONT CLICK ON THE LINKS! god its that simple you have no one to blame but yourself..people are telling you what they are and then you look at them and then yell at them....you didnt have to look!! YOU"RE SPOILING YOURSELF.....ITS NOBODYS FAULT BUT YOUR OWN IF YOU LOOK!!!

Posted by Tonks1975 Jul 15th 2007

Yes it is your own fault for looking but how dare them to tempt us. I have not read it but I did look at it. I wish it wasn't out there calling my name. HEE HEE

Posted by Sakibou Jul 15th 2007

Something else about the 'epilogue'. It mentions that Draco's hair is receding. A receding hairline is a hereditary condition, and one which Lucius was definitely NOT suffering from.

Posted by HarrysMyHero Jul 15th 2007

ok... there is no possible way that that is real... JK is a much more descriptive writer to write anything like that... if anyone thinks that that is actually the real thing... im sorry but you are way off base

Posted by darklordangel Jul 15th 2007

I agree with you AnyaMarcos. OMG! I want this book so bad. *Falls to floor an cries*

Posted by cliffy22 Jul 15th 2007

KUDOS TO THE GUY/GIRL WHO PHOTOSHOPPED THIS. A$$HOLE

Posted by teachdaisy Jul 15th 2007

I have to say I have an unhealthy obsession with HP right now! I was not as big of a fan when the other books came out so I am unaware of the "spoliers" in the past... Were any of them true or just a bunch of fanfiction??

Posted by spiritualwitch Jul 15th 2007

If that is real, someone said that it was probably Voldemort who was the taller one. Yeah, right. Most likely, the couple are going to see Voldemort. Voldemort would never act like that. Very interesting.

Posted by Scruffy Jul 15th 2007

Hmmm... who is this Snape character?

Posted by cliffy22 Jul 15th 2007

Okay i have 2 things. 1) between the chapter titles and the start of the book in HBP there is a page where it's like a diamond-checkerboard background w/ the title: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood prince. There is no such page in the scans of the supposed "Deathly Hallows spoiler" 2) In other books it makes it clear that the start of school is September 1 or 2 i cant remember. When it says the train is leaving in the epilogue it states quote "the last trace of steam evaporated in the AUTUMN air. Excuse me! last i checked august-sept. was SUMMER...

wow, i guess these people got what they wanted... alot of people freaking out...... don't worry the epilogue is prob. fake :D

Posted by Cate Jul 15th 2007

Did everybody know that the Order is coming to get Harry out of Privet Drive at the start of book 7? That is something we know FOR SURE, and I found it very interesting and thought others might, since it tells us something of what will happen, but yet I've never found it mentioned in the comments boards.

Posted by voldy_shorts Jul 15th 2007

hmmm, something tells me this is fake...

Posted by Sakibou Jul 15th 2007

Um, Cate. Are you sure about that? The end of HBP didn't really seem to suggest that Harry would be going back to Privet drive long enough for the Order to come and get him (which is what happened in OoTP, by the way), if at all for that matter. What would even be the purpose of them doing that? Right now, Harry is much more concernced about finding the remaining horcruxes than he is about being protected. Oh, and cliffy22, August is summer, but September is autumn.

Posted by HalfBlood_Princess Jul 15th 2007

This is stupid. It doesn't even sound like Jo's writing; in fact the writing sounds absolutely pathetic. It sounds like a fanfiction by a 6th grader. There's just no way this is real . . .

Posted by cliffy22 Jul 15th 2007

Jo needs to come out and tell us this is fake. (please Jo) I mean if it was fake, wouldn't she? And if this was real, and your intention was to release this to the public, wouldn't you scan the part where Harry kills Voldemort?

Posted by OxfordGirl727 Jul 15th 2007

wut is up with this whole 19 yrs later thing i havnt read it but its prob not true okay u guys this is the last book dont u wanna read it and be suprised by everything instead of going on the internet and reading every single spoiler in the world so u kno wut happens in the book but i highly doubt that the spoilers are true but still u shudnt read them unless u like having the book ruined for you.

Posted by Sakibou Jul 15th 2007

Let me edit what I said a bit. It DOES say that Harry will go back to Privet Drive in HBP, but it also specifically says that it will only be a short visit.

Posted by teachdaisy Jul 15th 2007

JKR should remove the 'do not disturb" sign and give us a few real chapter names, like she did with HBP!

Posted by lostfan4ever Jul 15th 2007

wouldn't it be hilairious if by happenchance this just happened to be the real epilogue and all of you were reading it and laughing about it...if i were you i wouldn't rule anything (ANYTHING) out. this is rowling's series, and she'll end it how she sees fit...

Posted by SiriusLoveGirl Jul 15th 2007

I read the first page of the epilogue someone posted, and it reads a bit wierd. Not wierd enough that I positively refuse to believe it;s real, but....a few things seem a bit off to me. We'll just have to wait and see.

Posted by cliffy22 Jul 15th 2007

Sakibou, Sept. 23 is the official start of autumn... if you have read the books... (which i'm sure you have) you know the students are in school by then.

Posted by sweets7 Jul 15th 2007

I didn't really read the epilogue but there seems to be only six chaacters mentioned and six pages. Are we supposed to believe everyone else died? Were their futures sorted out before the ending? She would never let a chapter have six pages would she? I don't know but if this is the way it ends I will be quite let down, ah well.

Posted by Sakibou Jul 15th 2007

Meh. I didn't know exactly WHEN autumn started, I just knew that it was in September.

Posted by teachdaisy Jul 15th 2007

Sakibou- If you read the jacket to the UK Child cover, it says he is waiting for the Order to pick him up. That is the only place I have seen that information.

Posted by cliffy22 Jul 15th 2007

Yah, so like, well you think they would spot that mistake if it was real right?

Posted by harlequin_girl Jul 15th 2007

oooh...! wow i want that book right now!!! thats made me INCREDIBLY EXCITED :D

Posted by meowkitty04 Jul 15th 2007

Okay, so I haven't read the "epilogue," but I have to say this right now -- for those of you who are pointing out what's wrong with it, you have to remember that this is coming after an entire novel...something may have happened that brought those changes about. I'm not saying it's real, but I just thought someone should put that out there.

Posted by sweets7 Jul 15th 2007

The start of summer is always as the summer dies. I don't think anyone would call it Autumn.

Posted by cliffy22 Jul 15th 2007

TEACHDAISY could you please give us the link to where you found the complete cover art for the UK edition with the summary?

Posted by Sakibou Jul 15th 2007

teachdaisy, I HAVE read the cover (actually, went back and re-read it to make sure after you said that), and it doesn't mention anything about the order, or Privet Drive for that matter.

Posted by sweets7 Jul 15th 2007

It is mentioned. I says that he is waiting at Privet Prive for them to take him away, without danger if they can. Later mentions him leaving the safety of the burrow to start an uncertain future

Posted by cliffy22 Jul 15th 2007

where is the cover with the summary for Deathly Hallows Sakibou?

Posted by jordyn Jul 15th 2007

alrighty its fine if people put links to spoilers but. . . . . . . PLEASE DO NOT TYPE PARTS OF SPOILERS IN THE COMMENTS. . . . . that is unfair to eveyone else...if you want to discuss it then go on aim or something elses where innocent people will not see by accident
