The Guardian reveals opening of Deathly Hallows?
With extreme caution for lack of authenticity, we bring you this article from The Guardian's online website. It holds, what they say, is the opening to Deathly Hallows dated October 23rd, 2006.According to their site, this small portion can be seen in video from the upcoming JK Rowling documentary we told you about a few days ago.
We've posted it in the black area below in case it is removed from The Guardian's website. Highlight in between the arrows if you wish to read.
-->'Chapter One. The Dark Lord Ascending. The two men appeared out of nowhere, a few yards apart in the narrow, moonlit lane. For a second they stood quite still, wands pointing at each other's chests: then, recognising each other, they stowed their wands beneath their cloaks and set off, side by side, in the same direction.
"News?", asked the taller of the two.
"The best," replied Snape.'<--
Please remember that it is still unknown as to whether or not this is real. Interesting, nonetheless. Thanks to everyone who e-mailed with the tip!
Emily's edit: I emailed Andrew saying I didn't think the excerpt was real. Here's why: There is a mixture of British/English grammar - the British spelling of "recognise" and the American use of "a few yards." There are also odd punctuation errors - a colon after "chest" and then ?", when only a question mark before the quotation mark would be used. Would Jo really make these errors? We'll find out soon.

meowkitty04, that's actually one of the problems with the so-called 'epilogue'. There is nothing in it that would have required prior knowledge of anything after HBP. The only new information in there is a bunch of names that ANYONE could have made up (as they are supposed to be Harry, Ron, and Draco's kids). Oh, and here is where you can see the cover art: ht tp://gallery.the-leaky-ca uldron. org/picture/129922...Take out the spaces. You can see for yourself that it doesn't say a thing about the Order.
It sounds somewhat like JK but...I don't believe she would open the book liike this. Who knows though? it's not bad.
I won't say calm down, because I'm hyperventalating, too, but I think reading all this stuff (even if it is fake) sort of...ruins it. I dunno. Just my thoughts. And I agree with jordyn -- don't post spoilers IN THE COMMENTS AREA! Please.
I stand corrected. The cover image I found didn't mention the Order, but that one certainly does.
This is totally fake, there is no doubt. However, it does make 5 days seem like a lifetime.
a bit blunt for my taste...doesn't seem to match Jo's style. Intruiging, nonetheless.
Even tho i dont think that this is the actual begining of the novel because it isnt quiet jo's writing style, I believe that a similar situation will begin the book. Jo has said that book seven will be a continuation of book 6. It would make sence for her to pick up book seven where book six left off; with snape having just killed Dumbledore, and making his final "flight" from Hogwarts.
I stand corrected for a second time. It DOES mention the Order in the image I came across, but the size of the image made it impossible to see everything at once, so I somehow managed to scroll right past it every single time. I apologize.
Sabouik or whatever your name is RE READ it's in blue, in the middle where the castle is...it says I quote "Harry is waiting on Privet drive. The order of the phoenix is coming to escort him safely away without Volermort or his other supporters knowing..." Now I was just trying to be helpful!
hpstephanie -- I dunno...it seems too much like the Bella/Cissy chapter in HBP, with two figures appearing out of nowhere and such...it seems a bit repetitive...I don't think Jo would write that...
j.k. herself said some people would loathe the book...i suppose this is just the beginning. with so much anger and disappointment in the air, i'm beginning to get worried...(also, when it comes to this "fake" epilogue that supposedly mentions very few people, perhaps she wants to leave some characters' endings up to us.) no doubt this will be an amazing book. let's stop raging about these spoilers and just wait for the book. as a sidenote, the excerpt given is just the opening few lines, right? well, then let's read the whole chapter, and the whole book, before we start saying it's not her style. she probably has good reasons for writing it that way. this is her book...not ours. she knows best!
I believe that the beginning it probably near to the truth (it may have changed a bit in editing). All this epilogue stuff though I don't like. It seems wrong somehow. It does make the wait unbearable.
ive read it and no way that could possibly be real... i mean really albus severus? lily, hugos, james, and ron???!?!??! i mean cmon... that is no way could be real and draco and his wife and i mean... doesnt seem at all real to me. b/c for one the show in the chapters that the last one is called epilogue. well when you see it it says epilogua in small writing at the top and nineteen years later at the bottom. and also she said it would explain what will happen to EVERYONE. unless they were the only ones survivng which is again highly unlikely.... but also the sentences harry says wouldnt be like that. sorry but that doesnt seem real to me, and the last sentence, "all was well" doesnt seem like a way to end it. b/c if the last word was "Well" why wouldnt jo just say that? i mean it must be a charectors name thats the last word. i mean it makes no sense to me. im just letting you all know. and anyone who can email jo (i never know how to do that) please tell her the name of the wbesite and to tell us if its even it. if its evedn true. thankx
THIS. HAS. TO. STOP! Quit fighting over who is right! It's pointless, and if it's fake, it's just giving the writer the enjoyment of knowing that he/she started a riot. I've been posting all day almost. I'm SICK of everyone fighting over whether it's real, and then ending, rather lamely, with "anyway, this just makes me want the book more."!!! All of us want the book so bad that at midnight everyone is going pass out or have a stroke or something because they've been brainwashed with an obsessive need for the final book. After this, there will be no more HP books. What are we going to do then? Sit around in pathetic heaps of emptyness? No one will be right until the book release unless Jo makes a public statement. I'm not forcing you to stop, I'm just saying, this is POINTLESS!
Sorry.. getting grouchy...unhealthy obession!!
teachdaisy, read the post right before yours. I have already admitted my mistake. lostfan4ever, JK also says that the epilogue will describe what happens EVERYONE, not just a few select characters. And, the epilogue doesn't really even describe what happens to them, as all it's basically saying is that all the major couples (Ron and Hermione, Harry and Ginny, Tonks and Lupin, Fleur and Bill) have children and send them off to Hogwarts.
by the way i was talking about the epilogue sorry if it confused anyone, and i agre completely with sakibou
I read the epilogue too. I HOPE it's fake because it's kind of disappointing and gives a lot away. But, it SORT of seems like JKR's style (some stuff seemed out of place, but then again there are things that Rowling has really written in current books that I think don't sound right either). Plus, it's short and a very clever way to tell about what happens to everyone (even if there are not many details). Plus the very end sounds right. It would at least explain why JKR doesn't want to reveal the last word. And it looks real. There seems to be one contradiction, but I can't really be sure that's a contradiction if I haven't read the book.
yaxley
I definitely agree with Eviegrl941. I posted something like that because people were fighting over who RAB is and it was DRIVING me nuts. Make your guesses, leave your opinions, and leave it be. Your not gonna know ANYTHING untill the 21st, and thats, that. It's 5 days away and you may say you can't wait (I do it too) but you can. You'll live untill than. (my dad told me that) and after this HARRY POTTER IS DONE! Thats the last and final book! So what is everyone gonna do? And dont go saying I hate Harry Potter, because I dont!
well....I guess this is for real..... just saying how sick it is of people posting spoilers online....like somebody actually posted picture scans of the book.....the posted it in this comment thing....PLUS the whole epilogue is on there....no offense...but thats just sad!! doesn't everyone appreciate waiting till the 21st??why ruin something we've been waiting for for so long...............10 years!! anywho..
i'm not reading it
albus severus.... i mean people WOULD HARRY REALLY NAME HIS OWN SON THAT??!??!?! and then lily and james... and then rose and then, al these names seem bogus to me. yes jk sometimes does things liek this but never liek this with names!!! please its not real people, and the pic isnt real either... and did you know that the last page is 759? the last page is suppose to be 784... letting you all know its fake
Smart move, ajaye -- Don't ruin it, even if it is fake. Seriously, people, HP will basically be OVER this time next week, and at that time I can totally understand everyone wallowing in sadness but...breathe...relax (or try to)...and get ready for a full night of speed-reading :)
Alright, I said to stop, but I don't care anymore. OOTP was supposed to be 896 pages, but mine's only 870. Why can't this one be the same? And who said that was the end of the Epilouge? Why does it need a name if it's the only Epilouge chapter? It may not be, but that was all the person had time to take pictures of before someone found them. I'm sticking with my theory: It's real and there's another chapter or two in the Epilouge.
There is really nothing in that epilogue that couldn't be guessed at. Couples have children. All those couples we already know about. I doubt they all survive though. Less then five days yeh.
**ALERT CONTAINS SPOILERS** http://boar dsus.playstation.com/play station/board/message?boa rd.id=offtopic&thread.id= 1832939 I don't know if it's true but the title of chapter one matches the one of the link above!!... These are most of DH chapter titles and a fragment from one of the chapters!... (Chapter Twenty Three) This is unauthorized information I accidently found on the web, it might not be true ;)
snape? i knew it! i knew there was something going on with him! lol jk the chapter sounds interesting! oooo spooky!! i cant wait!
How did this 'person' get this book anyway? aren't they supposed to have extra security to prevent this?
mmm. so excited.
Um, the end of the epilogue doesn't make it sound like there's supposed to be more. Besides, epilogues don't USUALLY (I won't say always) go on for more than one chapter. And USUALLY (again, I won't say always) they go more along the lines of...This is what happened to this character, this is what happened to that character, and so on and so forth. They don't really read like a full chapter.
eviegrl941 how can it be real??? if there is a chapter or two after in the epilouge then wouldnt it say it in thetable of contents????? and it DID have TWO names it was called at the top elpilouge and at the bottom it said nineteen years later. and then it says the way they got to nineteen years later is by using a timeturner, theyre all suppose to be broken #1 and #2 they wouldnt wan to skip nineteen years of their life if they won the battle and all of them were still surviving. and the pics were taking in order from beginning to end, so no way could someone find them and stop there.,, its fake
hajgkaldjga you guys are driving me nuts. I dont want to come on anymore. Im done with mugglenet! Atleast untill the book is out and i've read it. because there are too many spoilers and to much fighting and things that may be spoilers, i want the book to be a surprise to me, like the rest of them!
Eviegrl941, people aren't going to stop talking about things just because you ask them to. There are TONS of people who come on websites, and half of the people writing stuff don't read any comments, they just write them. ------------------------- ------------------------- ------------------------- ---------------- Harry_p_74, you're a jackass for posting all that stuff from the epilogue, (which I don't want to be real and which could probably be fake, but am still not assuming it's a hoax) and you must be a dumbass if you can't understand why JKR would not want to reveal that last word.
I was more hoping for something along these lines: Chapter One - The Dark Lord Ascending Lord Voldemort stared blankly ahead as the escalator pulled him slowly upwards. Not really remembering why or how he'd managed to end up on such a ridiculous Muggle contraption, nor at this point aware of how long he'd even been on it, he ascended ever upwards, thinking evil thoughts.
HP_isl0ve7, why would you avoid the entire site just because of the comments people are posting? Why not just stop reading comments...?
Snape, Snape Snape. Still being mysteriuose are we? Well That will all come to an end come the last chapter of DH. Or at least we think it will. Hmmm. I am not sure if tis is Jo's style though. Snape would not openly talk about important news in the middle of the street now would he. Well it sure gives us something to think about now doesn't it? If this is the real first page I will personally eat five pickles for you picklepack members out there. We shall see.
didn't JKR say that her final chapter would consist of what happened to the remaining living characters? This does nothing to tell us what happens.
What? Time - turners only work in reverse and they are all broken. They were purposely taken out of play in OOTP.
Sakibou, they are addicting. And I've pretty much memorized the entire site from reading it last year and reviewing everything this week.
That doesn't seem to be JK Rowling's style. She doesn't name the characters like that. Anyways, can't wait to read the book.
tristero07 its my comment and if you dont wan to read it dont. if you dont wan to know what it says just skip to the next comment its not my fault you read it. last i checked your free to comment on anything on here and alot of people other than me have posted about it. and how the hell is *well* something that jo wouldnt tell us about??? if scar she said was one and so "Well" wouldnt be something that she couldnt say.
Okay, whoever keeps saying they used a Time Turner is a flippin liar!!! They didn't skip 19 years of their life, THEY LIVED THEM AND THAT'S WHERE THE EPILOUGE PICKS UP!!!!! Epilouge is what happens a while after the end of the book, not what happens immeadiately after. And harry_p_7-- I KNOW the Epilouge has 2 titles, that's WHY I think there are more Epilouge chapters. They didn't list "Nineteen Years Later" as a chapter title either, but for some reason, it's THERE.
The fact that they didn't list Nineteen Years Later as a chapter title is one of the many reasons why I'm quite sure it isn't real. And, they wouldn't have a bunch of chapters and not include them in the ToC, which is why YOU should know that the epilogue isn't supposed to continue on.
eviegrl941 the people who posted the epilouge and everything else on that one site said they used timeturners, not me, it was that site that posted all this stuff but ya, i jhust htink its fake thats all..... just doesnt seem jo'ish to me, but if it the real thing, i hope theres more to hte epilouge
I would consider this "something that happens to the remaining living characters." For one, it's more convincing than a list. It's a storyline, and after reading it I realized a list would not be JKR's style. This would be more likely. Second, she's not going to tell us what happens to EVERY single living ccharacter. "Mundungus continued to steal cauldrons...Luna grew up and took over the Quibbler" (those are based on absolutely nothing), that's just overkill. I would like to know what the characters' jobs are, but this scenario (a pciture from their future) is plausible. The chapter pciture looks familiar though...and it doesn't quite seem to fit the text. Then again, it definitely fits the mood of the text (I know that sounds stupid but I can't explain myself without spoilers).--------------h arry_p_7, where does it say ANYTHING about time turners? By the way, all the chapters have two names: Chapter 1--so and so. Chapter 2--da-da-da. Why is Epilogue-Nineteen Years Later so implausible? I udnerstand why you would be skeptical, but there are SO MANY better reasons to mention (they're all spoiling of course, but you don't seem averse to that harry_p_7). Every little piece of "proof" mentioned on this website, whether of Harry having to live in the last book or certain spoilers being hoaxes, is so trivial! It's seriously frustrating to read such low-level arguments. Try to take an intellectual step up, please.
Okay, this is now going to be called "Battle of the Raging HP Fans." We're at each others' throats, even when we agree. This is what happens when you sit at a computer all day. No wonder my brother has rage issues (not diagnosed, he just has a bad temper). At least I've taken a break; I can still see clearly, too. Just saying: Some people agree, but they still fight each other, as well as those who disagree. Alright, let the mindless fighting continue.
Come on people lets get to 1000 posts :D
tristero07, it says on this website (ht tp://www.kaos-krew .net/harry/) that they're supposed to have used time-turners. Also, what's wrong with the ToC is that it DOESN'T name Nineteen Years Later, it just say 'Epilogue'.
They don't mention their careers. Ah well, I was more interested in that then what they would name their children. Maybe we find out their careers in another part of the book.
