The Guardian reveals opening of Deathly Hallows?
With extreme caution for lack of authenticity, we bring you this article from The Guardian's online website. It holds, what they say, is the opening to Deathly Hallows dated October 23rd, 2006.According to their site, this small portion can be seen in video from the upcoming JK Rowling documentary we told you about a few days ago.
We've posted it in the black area below in case it is removed from The Guardian's website. Highlight in between the arrows if you wish to read.
-->'Chapter One. The Dark Lord Ascending. The two men appeared out of nowhere, a few yards apart in the narrow, moonlit lane. For a second they stood quite still, wands pointing at each other's chests: then, recognising each other, they stowed their wands beneath their cloaks and set off, side by side, in the same direction.
"News?", asked the taller of the two.
"The best," replied Snape.'<--
Please remember that it is still unknown as to whether or not this is real. Interesting, nonetheless. Thanks to everyone who e-mailed with the tip!
Emily's edit: I emailed Andrew saying I didn't think the excerpt was real. Here's why: There is a mixture of British/English grammar - the British spelling of "recognise" and the American use of "a few yards." There are also odd punctuation errors - a colon after "chest" and then ?", when only a question mark before the quotation mark would be used. Would Jo really make these errors? We'll find out soon.

WOW DONT POST SPOILERS PEOPLE PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!! is it real??
i just want to be able to enjoy the book with no rumors to be wondering about when i read it.
sirius_lee: b/c it's a spoiler, but good point--even if it IS real, could be a lot more drastic. And I really think it isn't, the more I mull it over.
I HATE SPOILERS BUT Y IS EVERYBODY MAKING SUCH A BIG DEAL ABOUT THIS I MEAN IT DOESNT GIVE ANYTHING AWAY CUZ WE DONT HAVE ENOUGH INFO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BUT PLZ DONT SPOIL!!!!!!!!!
Sectumbumprahaha ok good for you you know what happens but PLEASE I BEG YOU PLEASE STOP POSTING IT, PEOPLE WIO RANDOMLY COME ACROSS IT! please your going to make me cry.. thats it. i will only go on mugglenet to see news, but i will never go on the comments until i read DH. that is all, and this will be my last comment for a week.. good bye
Daleboy, it's not impossible. If a person has enough freetime on their hands, they can pretty much do anything they want. I have seen some amazing things done in photoshop. And, as I've said before, it's not impossible to recreate someone's drawing style. The ending doesn't add up to what JK said it would be at all. YOU'RE the one that's in denial.
I don't think it gives enough away to be any concern.
you know...in the end, if it is the real epilogue (which i think evidence proves it to be), you could just ignore it and stop at the last chapter before it. that way, you won't be angry and everyone's "future" can be decided by you...simple...yet again j.k. did say some would loathe the book. maybe this is exactly what she was talking about. over 1150 comments all about unconfirmed rumors...wow, if it's the real epilogue i'm starting to feel that j.k. will have death threats sent to her by these people commenting. this worries me...alot.
I doubt that that epilogue is real. The critics would massacre the poor women and apart from OOTP they have been pretty complimentary
wow... glanced at the epilouge and I didnt read it all the way through, just kinda spot read... just wanna be able to validate/discredit it as soon as i get the book... meh... nothing big except what I already thought in that __________ lives so yeah... I think it IS real because of the chap.pics... no WAY can you make a fake in photoshop and make it look THAT real... As I said before... "tread lightly"in these murky waters
harry_p_7, that person (Sectumbumprahaha) already said that he was lying. On another note, I don't see what everyone's problem with OoTP was. I actually really liked that one...o.o;
i guess we will all find out what will happen when DH comes out and we will just have to wait until then.
I like that epilogue so I hope that it's true! Yeah, I said it! If it isn't true, oh well! But I like it! And reading it makes me want to read the book even more because I have to know what happened to make somebody do a "180" like I've seen. Have you guys noticed that the same troll is fussing about the epilogue that is linked and saying that it's awful, but at the same time, he keeps revealing what's in it?
It doesn't seem to be her writing style; however, if it is..it just makes me super excited to see my favorite character in the world. *sigh* Yes, I'm totally obsessed with him..tis so sad...but at least everyone knows (and my bf doesn't even care! yay!) But back to what I was saying, if JK was so worried about secrecy, I don't see her accidently allowing a sneak peek to be shot, do you? She would make sure that no one saw it, or at least wouldn't allow them to use it. In my opinion, it's not legit.
tristero07-- YOU ARE RETARTED!!!!!!!!!!!! I JUST SAID THAT THEY DIDN'T USE THE FU.CKING TIME TURNER!!!!!!!!!!!! I KNOW WHAT EPILOUGE'S FU.CKING DEFINITION IS TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU'RE BITING OFF MINE AND HARRY_P_7'S HEAD WHEN YOU'RE THE FU.CK HEAD!!!!!!!!! FIND SOMEONE ELSE TO ARGUE WITH, LIKE SOMEONE WHO HASN'T SAID PREVIOUSLY THE SAME THING YOU JUST SAID!!!!!!!!!!! I'M SO PISSED AT YOU AND EVERYONE ELSE WHOSE DONE THAT AND I'M GLAD I RECHECKED THE COMMENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!
on j.k's site on may 14th, she predicted these spoilers would happen...i say we stop discussing and posting them. that's what she wants. i surely hope you didn't just read the real ending of the harry potter series before you even read the book. i feel for you...
Yeah OOTP was fine but it had a few major problems. POA and HBP were probably the best written books. That epilogue would have all the critics baying for blood. It is fine as a sweet happily ever after ending though. Everyone we care about lives happily ever after? I doubt that myself.
Where is the staff... I've been spoiled enough thanks to these comments. I wish they'd disable them.
I'm actually not saying that the illustrations are Photoshopped. I think that they were hand drawn.
I really don't think this is from the book, it doesn't sound like something she'd start off the book with. She would have waited until the "taller of the two" said Snape's name before she started to use it herself, and she wouldn't start off the book with "the two men," what two men is it talking about? The content itself doesn't make sense. It's apparent from the "taller of the two['s]" first word that something's wrong, he says "new?" like he and Snape had been having conversation before they Apparated, in that case, why would they have drawn wands on each other once they got to the "narrow, moonlit lane[?]" And it's like a few people have said, it's just not Jo's style of writing...
yaxley
I sent Mugglenet a message, asking that they find out if this supposed epilogue 'leak' is true or not. I hope they respond to it soon.
when you think about it its not really giving anything away, so i wouldnt freak out about it or anything. and besides, we dont even know if its true. so im just going to wait until the book and enjoy when i read it.
The beginning that was posted has perfect grammer and is very well written. I don't think you can fault it on it's English.
Hey Check this Out! I dont know how many of you are familiar with TheMasterSword who leaked out spoilers months ago, but it seems he was right about there being a creepy 7-line poem at the start of the book. After looking at the scans of the table of contents that were leaked yesterday, i noticed that there was some writing on the next page. I blew it up in photoshop and adjusted the contrast and noticed that it was indeed 7 lines. It doesn't rhyme tho. Anyways, after much squinting, i was able to discern much of what it said. here it is | | Death in one...the weeds?, as friends do ___ because they live in one another will...that love and live in that which is...in this ___ in this ___ the glass, they...and their conscience? free as well as is pure/ This in the ____ of friends then through they ____ said in die, you ____ their friendship and society are in the best ____, ever present because... | | I know it doesn't make much sense, but ___ means there is a single word that i cant discern and ... means there are several words I cant read
I loved OOTP! It was the best book in the series! And I enjoyed it because I wasn't obsessed about these freaking spoilers. I like to read them, only because I'm dying for any canon info in DH, but this is MADNESS! One spoiler caused all this? I can't believe it. Agreeing with harry_p_7: STOP WRITING ABOUT JO'S WRITING STYLE LIKE YOU CAN READ HER MIND, AND STOP SAYING THE FULL NAME THING!!! IT'S NOT ORIGINAL, AS IT'S BEEN POSTED 500 TIMES, AND, GOD.DAM.N IT, IT'S NOT TRUE!!!!!!!!
sweets7: Actually, no it doesn't. There definitely shouldn't be a colin in there.
Mugglenet should just close the comments section for this week for all of the posts. That would be best. There are a few people that can't seem to just read the supposed spoilers and keep from blabbing about them in the comments section.
oh no...i gave in and read it...doesn't really give away much..but i hope it's fake because i really wanted to read the book start to finish in a single night....=[
wow... this is like the HUGEST amount of comments ive ever seen on Mugglenet....WOW and i don't think that it's true. she would never start out a book with "The two men..." it's such a weak sentence to begin a story with... hummmhiimmmmmhmmm
I liked OOTP but it was the weakest of the series. It needed a lot more editing. It was convuluted, stodgy, flowed badly, badly strutured. HBP whether tou like the actual story or not, is a much better written.
Rayvontae--Yea, I just don't get it: they close the forums, but not the completely interactive comments section that isn't read before it's posted.
Guys, listen. Either the clip in the main MuggleNet post is right, or the leaked spoilers are. One of them is wrong. The original post says that the opening is this "The two men" thing, but on the table of contents spoilers you can see part of the next page and it starts out with a different word(s). One is wrong.
Psh. I think they're BOTH wrong. And, I didn't think OoTP was weak at all. I enjoyed reading it...o.o;...Funny thing is, even though it was the longest book, I finished it more quickly than almost any of them. THAT'S how much I liked it.
soundss amazinggg. but 'recognized' it not even spelled right. Hmmm?
This is the poem aristali is talking about. It's by William Penn, 18th century Quaker and founder of Pennsylvania (just some trivia for you). I love it, personally. Note that the first six lines of this poem (in brackets) do not appear in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, however telling they may be (perhaps it is for that reason that they were not included). POEM ON LOVE AND DEATH by William Penn [They that love beyond the World cannot be separated by it. Death cannot kill what never dies. Nor can Spirits ever be divided that love and live in the same Divine Principle; the Root and Record of their friendship. If Absence be not Death, neither is theirs.] Death is but Crossing the World, as Friends do the Seas; They live in one another still. For they must needs be present, that love and live in that which is Omnipresent. In this Divine Glass, they see Face to Face; and their Converse is Free, as well as Pure. This is the Comfort of Friends, that though they may be said to Die, yet their Friendship and Society are, in the best Sense, ever present, because Immortal
I really think it's fake because it's so predictable. I just think that some fan decided to try to write the first chapter adn somebody found it.
yeah the colon is incorrect but it was picked up on a video tape so in actual fact she could have a semi - colon there, which would make complete sense given the structure. She isn't really a fan of the semi - colon though so who knows.
hotchilly-- I'm prepared to bet (figure of speech) that "The two men..." is fake. They have a whole book on the leaked one, where the other one has only a few short sentences. I don't care how reputable the Guardian is, every source can have one mistake, and if that's so, it's minor compared to the leaked info.
I can't believe I'm still here. I PROMISED myself many moons ago that as soon as stuff like this started appearing, fake or otherwise, I'd force myself away from Potterdom until I had the book in my hands. I admit, I'm weak... By the way, if you don't like the Epilogue, you'll just have to deal with it because there's a possibility it's real. It LOOKS real. I'm sure if you read it after reading the whole book it will feel a lot better. As for the chapter titles, I refuse to believe 'The Life And Lies Of Albus Dumbledore' is a real title. The 'lies' of Dumbledore? No way. Or 'The Sacking Of Severus Snape', why the hell would that be a chapter title? And it seems whoever made them up (if they're made up) just took locations we're all assuming are in and used them as chapter titles, like 'Gringotts', 'Godric's Hollow', 'Malfoy Manor', 'The Wedding' and of course 'The Deathly Hallows' which we could all predict.
Loved the story of OOTP. Love Tonks and Luna. Structure wise though it had problems.
performingmonkey-I totally agree. the chapter titles are so fake, obviously written by somenoe who wants to ruin all the fun
I'm going to laugh so hard if those chapter titles are real. Bwahaha.
OMG!! this is exciting if you get what they are saying...... lol
OMG!! this is exciting if you get what they are saying...... lol
idk why but i highly doubt that this is really from the book... it doesnt seem like jkr's style. but for all we know it could be. either way we'll know in a few very very long days.
I think we need one huge nap until the day before the book comes out. X_x; It would do us all a world of good not to stumble on any spoilers/made up spoilers (the majority is the latter, I'm sure). I think Mugglenet should close the comment board though, or post another message saying, "AVOID THE COMMENT BOARDS, ASSUME THEY ALL HAVE SPOILERS SINCE WE CAN DELETE EVERY COMMENT!". o_o; But hey, all I know is I'm outta here. Too much risk going around. See you all after I finish book 7 (or on a comment board that probably won't have any spoilers)!
performingmonkey-- First of all, nice name! Okay, I'm glad that you see the Epilouge that way. Sure, the titles are iffy, but who knows, it looks real. And Dumbledore said that he's made many mistakes, so why should lying be a surprise. He's not perfect. "The Sacking of Severus Snape" could be important because, if you believe the Epilouge, Snape became Headmaster and not McGonagall. He's not losing a teaching position, he's losing a Headmaster-ness thing(?). That could be relavant to the next chapter title, which has to do with a battle at Hogwarts (I can't remember the actual name) and where Snape shows his bravery.
i don't know if the chapter names are fake but the epilogue obviously is...the page count is off by 25 pages...and there are 29 lines of text on a page instead of 28...that might not be a big deal but the page count definately is
it look fake to me, but im dying to read the book the real stuff
