The Guardian reveals opening of Deathly Hallows?
The Guardian reveals opening of Deathly Hallows? With extreme caution for lack of authenticity, we bring you this article from The Guardian's online website. It holds, what they say, is the opening to Deathly Hallows dated October 23rd, 2006.

According to their site, this small portion can be seen in video from the upcoming JK Rowling documentary we told you about a few days ago.

We've posted it in the black area below in case it is removed from The Guardian's website. Highlight in between the arrows if you wish to read.

-->'Chapter One. The Dark Lord Ascending. The two men appeared out of nowhere, a few yards apart in the narrow, moonlit lane. For a second they stood quite still, wands pointing at each other's chests: then, recognising each other, they stowed their wands beneath their cloaks and set off, side by side, in the same direction.

"News?", asked the taller of the two.

"The best," replied Snape.'
<--

Please remember that it is still unknown as to whether or not this is real. Interesting, nonetheless. Thanks to everyone who e-mailed with the tip!

Emily's edit: I emailed Andrew saying I didn't think the excerpt was real. Here's why: There is a mixture of British/English grammar - the British spelling of "recognise" and the American use of "a few yards." There are also odd punctuation errors - a colon after "chest" and then ?", when only a question mark before the quotation mark would be used. Would Jo really make these errors? We'll find out soon.

By the way, I don't think we should believe the 'summaries' of chapters that are being posted. Apparently 'Hermione gets hit on by drunkards' er...sure, whatever.

Posted by narsaksas Jul 15th 2007

Should I read it.....? Oh the torture!!

Posted by sweets7 Jul 15th 2007

Snape is a git regardless of his allegience. There is no way he is in charge of hundreds of children and there is no way that certain of the other characters (won't name names) would intrust their children to him,

Posted by Sakibou Jul 15th 2007

Eviegrl941: Where does it say in the epilogue that Severus became headmaster? Anyhow, even if he DOES at some point become headmaster, I highly, highly doubt it'd be in the middle of the book, and would instead be at the very end. Making someone headmaster right after they kill the previous one? That seems kind of off the wall.

Posted by Eviegrl941 Jul 15th 2007

performingmonkey-- I see your point. I didn't say to believe the descriptions. The actual chapter title has to do with a battle. As for the rest of you guys/girls: I'm leaving for the night, and I expect to find another thousand comments tomorrow morning. Don't let me down! *ahem* let me make this clear, I'M JUST KIDDING!!!

Posted by performingmonkey Jul 15th 2007

But how could Snape become Headmaster??? Harry saw him murder Dumbledore. Everyone else accepted that Snape murdered Dumbledore. How could he possibly become Head of Hogwarts?? Unless....it is in Dumbledore's WILL that Snape succeed him as Headmaster!! Wow...that would be insane...too insane to be in the book, surely. Even if it was in DD's will, no-one would accept a killer and betrayer like Snape as Headmaster. I think this detail proves the Epilogue is FAKE.

Posted by Sakibou Jul 15th 2007

Oh, wait. Yeah, I see it now. It says that Harry Severus (Oh, God) was named after 'two headmasters'. Don't know why that didn't register the other few times I read it. But still, my previous comment still stands.

Posted by Sakibou Jul 15th 2007

*Albus Severus...Definitely shouldn't do that crappy epilogue justice by making one of its equally crappy names better...XP

Posted by sweets7 Jul 15th 2007

It also implies in the chapter summeries that a certain character is with child, Now unless there is a specfic story reason for this. I seriously doubt that her or her partner would consider having a child in the middle of the war, a good idea. Birth rates traditionally always soar after the end of a war.

Of course, The Guardian is a reputable newspaper, (thank God the Daily Prophet isn't real . . .)

Posted by Lily123 Jul 15th 2007

That's quite... intriguing, now I REALLY want the book! :)

Posted by lchatt Jul 15th 2007

Um...somebody on another site has pictures of her with the book...i don't know how she got a hold of one...but she confirms that this IS the actually first few paragraphs.

Posted by Rice12345 Jul 15th 2007

wow. i have read way way too many spoilers on some random spanish site. all seemed reasonable. also looked at the epilogue. why did i go do all that?? WHY?? the names of PERSON's offspring are REALLY CORNY! i can't believe this is JKR material! then again ti was written long ago -_-

Posted by snapeward777 Jul 15th 2007

most likley not it. im gunna slap myself silly if i read it. gosh my face is gunna hurt tommorow.

Posted by Siblin Jul 15th 2007

Where, lchatt?

Posted by bachwiz18 Jul 15th 2007

To anyone who is indecisive about whether to highlight it or not: it gives nothing away. It just says something about Snape and some other guy talking in an alleyway...something about Snape having good news. That's it.

Posted by sere21 Jul 15th 2007

I read the chapter titles and summaries and the scans look fake. Also while some of the titles seem plausible the order they go in seems completley out of place. I also read the summaries and all the things metioned seem either stupid, out of place, or unrealistic compared to cannon.

Posted by Nino44 Jul 15th 2007

You're not a true fan if you read it.

Posted by hotchilly Jul 15th 2007

Oh, so the people who run the site, all of whom probably read it, are not TRUE fans? Please. Get a life you pompous troll.

Posted by thiefofeddis Jul 15th 2007

Okay, that's it. . . I'm turning off my internet access until I've finished reading the book.

Posted by Frozen_Inferno Jul 15th 2007

I'd like to mention that this is from a manuscript back in October... Before any revisions and edits were made. Its also possible that the tabloid itself made a few gramatical errors.

Posted by GinnyPotter Jul 15th 2007

fake.

Posted by t0nksie Jul 15th 2007

Another proof that it's fake: 2 chapters of the alleged listing end with the word 'Tale'. I mean, editors would likely notice those little details! (CHAPTER 10 : "_____'S TALE"; CHAPTER 33 _____'S TALE)

Posted by hpfreak07 Jul 15th 2007

lchatt who claims to have it and who has pics?

Posted by _mugglecast_ Jul 15th 2007

Just thought I'd point out, it's weak sentence structure to start a sentence with "the", let alone starting a book that way. I find it hard to believe that this exerpt is genuine, but if it is, I'll be eating my words in about 5 day's time now won't I?

Posted by loby Jul 15th 2007

I'm not qualified to comment upon the 'fake or real' aspect of these spoilers, but I CAN tell you that it's ENTIRELY possible to produce EVERY SINGLE ONE of the alleged scans using a Photoshop program. And as for the picture some chick has posted of herself holding a copy of the book??? Heh ~ that would be even easier.

LONDON: A £10 million security operation featuring an army of guards, satellite tracking systems and draconian legal contracts has swung into action to prevent any leak of details of the seventh and final book about the tales of boy wizard Harry Potter. As millions around the world eagerly await the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on Saturday midnight, only its author J K Rowling and some 20 other people, including the book’s editors and illustrators know Harry’s fate. When the finished manuscript was taken by hand from London to New York, the lawyer for the American publisher, Scholastic, sat on it during the flight. With each successive Potter book, security has grown. Nothing has come close, however, to the arrangements for the finale, the Sunday Telegraph observed on Sunday. London-based Bloomsbury, which publishes the Potter books in Britain, has hired secure sites across the country to house the book prior to distribution early this week. Several dozen security teams will protect the sites round the clock. Experts say security staff will earn up to £30 an hour with a guard dog, up to £20 without. Print factory workers in Britain have been threatened with the sack if they leak any details, while German publishers banned mobiles and even packed lunches in the printing plant. Some employees reportedly had to work in near-darkness to prevent them reading the book. It is from Tuesday, however, when copies begin to be sent out to retailers, that the most crucial part of the security operation will come into effect. The trucks Bloomsbury will use are fitted with satellite tracking systems costing up to £1,000 pounds, which will reveal whether any of the vehicles deviate from their intended route. The books are on sealed pallets fitted with alarms to prevent tampering. At one of the world’s biggest booksellers, Barnes and Noble in America, the books are being kept in padlocked trucks at the insistence of Scholastic. Amazon, the online retailer...

"Rowling has reportedly received letters from people asking her to reveal the ending of the seventh book because their terminally-ill relative may not live until Saturday." lol nice try though.

Posted by cliffy22 Jul 15th 2007

Did anybody notice the site is KAOS KREW as in CHAOS maybe the makers of these fake pictures are trying to cause CHAOS?!?!?!?!

Posted by GABZx3 Jul 15th 2007

I read it, it seems too fake. It doesn't seem like JKRs style AT ALL. If this really is authentic, then im pretty disappointed =/

Posted by Koolteen200 Jul 15th 2007

GUYS OK LOL I'M NOT TRYING TO RUIN THE FUN HERE BUT HAVE U LOOKED FOR DEATHLY HALLOWS ON P2P FILE SHARING NETWORKS SUCH AS LIMEWIRE? I MYSELF WAS USING IT TO FIND A FILE AND MANAGED TO DOWNLOAD A "LEAKED BOOK 7 SCRIPT" FROM THE FILE SHARING NETWORK, IT OPENS IN MICROSOFT WORD AND IN ACROBAT READER, I HAVE OPENED IT AND ONLY SAW "CHAPTER ONE" THEN CLOSED THE WINDOW AND DELETED THE FILE FOR NOT RUNINING THE SURPRISE! jUST WONDERING IF ANYONE ELSE HAD DL IT FROM LIMEWIRE OR BELIEVES ITS REAL? BEWARE, OF IT THOUGH, DONT WANT ANYONE TO BE UPSET IF THEY MANAGE TO READ IT BEFORE ITS RELEASE, I'M JUST GIVING A HEADS UP ON THE INFO FROM WHAT IVE GATHERED. HOPE THIS HELPS SOME OF YALL!

Posted by weasleychick92 Jul 15th 2007

I doubt that it's real...but if it is...AHHH!! I really can't wait!!! Five more days...

Posted by SheWhoVisitsFrequently Jul 15th 2007

I think that it would be foolish to assume that this is the real deal.

Posted by performingmonkey Jul 15th 2007

Here's why everything is fake - if someone was going to scan something it would be of the final confrontation and/or a death, not the Epilogue, or the opening lines, which tell us nothing important. Also, the first thing anyone this stupid with the book would do is reveal the deaths just like DD's death was revealed. I know some people have said what deaths happen but they're so obviously just guessing.

Posted by kreachyweachy Jul 15th 2007

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAHOOWHWOAHOAH, i cant wait for this, gaah im going to invite a time machine to travel to friday, WEEO WEOOOOWE WEOOOO. snape snape snape snape

Posted by celticraven Jul 15th 2007

We can't just evaluate whether it has Jo's writing style because editors canj be he ones responsible for mistakes like that. But still, most likely this Guardian claim isn't accurate. At least we'll see for sure in a few days. It makes sense that many claims would arise shortly before release.

Posted by hallowsaint Jul 15th 2007

DANIEL RADCLIFFE ON CNN SHOWBIZ RIGHT NOW!!!!!

Posted by princeofdarkness Jul 15th 2007

no- you can tell by the first six words of the excerpt, that ain't Jo's style. she wouldn't open book seven like that, might be somewhere else in the book..

Posted by Rictemsempra Jul 15th 2007

I'm pretty sure that's bogus... I mean... there were all those grammatical mistakes... and the writing style was just so..... choppy..... it didn't really seem like something Jo would write... and if the first chapter is called "The Dark Lord Ascending" I don't even know if I'll have enough faith to read the rest of the book... I mean please.... "The Dark Lord Ascending???!!!" Well... THAT'S creative.... :P

Posted by ToiletWater Jul 15th 2007

SPOILER WARNING This could be considered a spoiler, I have from a source that I saw months and months ago about hints about the book, Which is the Title of the First Chapter, which is called "An Eye for an Eye" It takes place from the point of view of Mad Eye Moody aslo the book will contain in the beging and creepy Seven Line poem in the beging regarding Deathly Hallows, which will be repeated again in the book. You dont have to trust me but this is serious post and I think that this is going to happen I'm sorry I dont have a link to the website it was a long time ago that I read this.

Posted by Jimmer Jul 15th 2007

hmmm.... for that edit-maybe the person writing the article made those mistakes-not Jo....

Posted by harry_p_7 Jul 15th 2007

ok now that all the spoilers are done i guess ill start commenting again.... does anyone here know any good book stores in west covina that are holding midnight release parties for DH?

Posted by dumbledoreISdead Jul 15th 2007

ahhh im convinced this is all real and i want to slap myself so hard for thinking that i wouldnt find spoilers on mugglenet comments ahhhhhhh and its not like i went and read the epilouge, in fact i didnt read it at all however some idiots decided to so kindly reveal whats in the epilouge in their wonderful comments i dont think ive ever been so angry over a harry potter book

Posted by ej020506 Jul 15th 2007

i dont think that will be it...i just dont...it doesnt seem ryt coz it was too...blunt, for a lack of better word. its just so simple and i dont think jo will write it like that. cmon! a momentous moment reduced to a starter/ i dont think so...

Posted by Rictemsempra Jul 15th 2007

ToiletWater- Yeah I heard the same thing... lol I actually read it in one of the comments months ago.... I guess we'll have to see if it's true when the book comes out on midnight Saturday!!!!! :D

Posted by harry_p_7 Jul 15th 2007

dumbledoreISdead dont worry the epilouge is NOT REAL. there are so many things that point out that it isnt real yet i wont post it for 1- ive posted it alot and 2- in case i dont want to spoil it even though i think ie done it a bit so sorry if i did b4 a bit excited i was... but the epilouge is however NOT REAL

Posted by dumbledoreISdead Jul 15th 2007

well it just looks so real to me however, the if the epilouge is only like 6 pages i will be heavily dissapointed does anyone remember when Jo showed us the folder of the last chapter years ago? it seemed quite thicker than 6 pages...

Posted by Nymphadora92 Jul 15th 2007

I'm not trusting anything until I have that book in my hands and read it for myself. Still this is so exciting!!!!!! I can't stop thinking about it and have to execute so much will power not to read or listen to any spoilers! 5 days!
