The Guardian reveals opening of Deathly Hallows?
The Guardian reveals opening of Deathly Hallows? With extreme caution for lack of authenticity, we bring you this article from The Guardian's online website. It holds, what they say, is the opening to Deathly Hallows dated October 23rd, 2006.

According to their site, this small portion can be seen in video from the upcoming JK Rowling documentary we told you about a few days ago.

We've posted it in the black area below in case it is removed from The Guardian's website. Highlight in between the arrows if you wish to read.

-->'Chapter One. The Dark Lord Ascending. The two men appeared out of nowhere, a few yards apart in the narrow, moonlit lane. For a second they stood quite still, wands pointing at each other's chests: then, recognising each other, they stowed their wands beneath their cloaks and set off, side by side, in the same direction.

"News?", asked the taller of the two.

"The best," replied Snape.'
<--

Please remember that it is still unknown as to whether or not this is real. Interesting, nonetheless. Thanks to everyone who e-mailed with the tip!

Emily's edit: I emailed Andrew saying I didn't think the excerpt was real. Here's why: There is a mixture of British/English grammar - the British spelling of "recognise" and the American use of "a few yards." There are also odd punctuation errors - a colon after "chest" and then ?", when only a question mark before the quotation mark would be used. Would Jo really make these errors? We'll find out soon.

I agree with all the people who said it was fake. J.K. is not American. SAhe wouldn't use the whole waited a second. Besides, Deathly Hallows is super top secret. Even though it comes out in five days, she wouldn't let something that hidden slip out.

Posted by RHodgson Jul 15th 2007

When something like that comes out, there is no way i can't not read it. But I don't think it is part of the book even though it doesn't reveal anything because the taller one couldn't be any one.

Posted by coleygirl Jul 15th 2007

That link above is a HUGE spoiler- is has alot of info. i went there and it had pics. of the what looks like the actual book.... idk what to think now cause the "The Dark Lord Ascending" sounds really fake but the pics. look pretty real.

Posted by Weasley_Is_My_King Jul 15th 2007

Ooh. Wow. If it's real, that's pretty exciting. If not, it's still sort of interesting.

Posted by Thaliowen Jul 15th 2007

The spoiler site posted above is also fake. Read the last page. The names are repeated incessantly, and the writing is extremely jumpy. They jump between seeing his children off at the station to mentioning that he'd never told his children, to rambling about his scar. It's simply not Jo's style to do such things, and it would be extremely easy to simply print out a few pages of fake things (how many realistic fanfic writers could pull it off?) and download a font. This book being released is /huge/. With all of the security measures put on the books, someone's bound to put up a hoax like this to crush every fan who finds it. And Wikipedia, something anyone can edit, would be a perfect place to advertise it, with such a popular topic of search, don't you think? Seriously, though, if that's how Jo's going to write the last chapter, or the book in general, I'm going to be extremely disappointed. It hardly seems emotional at all; nothing someone would cry over in a hotel room, regardless of how long she'd been writing it. Would her publishers really accept that?

I think that I'm going to go live in a cave until my book comes. Anyone want to join me?

Posted by purpledog100 Jul 15th 2007

I admit, I couldn't help myself and I read it. It's not like it says all that much or spoils the book. I'm so excited, though, because I actually knew something before Mugglenet did! I was on a message board, laughing at all of the obviously fake DH spoilers and came across this. It seems to be real. The guy who posted the quote also had a bunch of chapter titles and a few pics, but they weren't confirmed to be real. **5 More Days**

Posted by rsaioxkreual Jul 15th 2007

I really hope this is all BS. Because, like an idiot, I clicked on the stupid thingy. Ah, my poor eyes. Granted, it sounded like really bad fan fiction, but whatever. I could almost have sworn that the writing was childish and terrible.

Posted by wildcatwizard Jul 15th 2007

THIS IS FAKE!!!!!!! If this is supposed to be a source from Britain, they wouldn't be using our units "yards" they would use meters instead. But interesting still none the less.

Posted by BRiANNAP Jul 15th 2007

yeah so if this is true.. then that goes to show that snape is bad.. because obviously he's telling voldemort what he just did (killing dumbledore) and again if it is true, this is kind of a bad way to start off a story// to remind us all again that a great man was killed

Posted by tristero07 Jul 15th 2007

Holy Crap, those chapter names are OFFICIALLY REAL?! Woohooooooo! I knew it, I must have Rowling Radar haha. That proves that this is DEFINITELY fake then. Although, I'm trying to figure out how Gobbledegook has a place in such a dark book. Who cares, though, this book sounds freaking a. Can't wait.

Posted by hallowsaint Jul 15th 2007

yeah normally when she starts out a book it gives surrounding before characters so i conclude that this is a fake....end of story

Posted by Corbus52 Jul 15th 2007

yeah....forget my comment....it's fake. "and set off, side by side" sounds too....badly written. I was just caught up in the excitement of the possibility of some tiny piece from the book we've all been waiting for for SO LONG!!! :)

Posted by nineoakcaroline Jul 15th 2007

Completely not her style. Not sentence structure, not word choice, not even in tone. Pacing, in particular, is too jumpy for her.

Posted by PerriHaughter Jul 15th 2007

Oh my God if this is the really the first chapter I will kill myself. I really think it's an insult to Jo if we even consider it to be! It's so dreadful the more I re-read it, the more it's clearly obvious that it's fake..I am wondering how stupid people must be to think it's real!

Posted by jklatham Jul 15th 2007

You think that the beggining of DH might be a little less... well like a normal HP book starting because Jo said that the books were like 2 parts of the same novel? Not that i'm suggesting that this is real, but just considering due to that statment.

Posted by LethiaMalfoy Jul 15th 2007

scrimgeour and snape much???? =]

Posted by ayumidah Jul 15th 2007

*snickers* ... Yeah. Snape = not evil. Anyway The weird thing is I had a dream that a spoiler was posted on Mugglenet last night and voila, here one is. I'm freaked out. XD

Posted by irinuca Jul 15th 2007

GUYS, DO NOT GO TO THE LINK LUCAS POSTED. POSSIBLE SPOILER!!! MUGGLENET PLEASE , PLEASE DELETE THAT POST.

Posted by confused Jul 15th 2007

i'm scared... lol...

Posted by theliongoesroar Jul 15th 2007

i doubt thats real... cause i don't think it sounds like jk's writing.. it just doens't sound good enough... like that first sentence? nah i don't think thats her writing.

Posted by aryana Jul 15th 2007

FAKE. It was kind of believable until one of them was referred to as "the taller one" and then the other was immediately identified as Snape. If JK wrote something like "the taller of the two", it would be her way of keeping their identity unknown and building some suspense for a while... I don't think she would immediately kill that suspense in the next sentence. And JK always writes the first chapter as if she assumes the reader hasn't read the previous books (like how she describes Harry all over again each time). So I am quite sure she would describe Snape first and not just say "said Snape".

Posted by hpgeek512 Jul 15th 2007

i'm so not gonna read it :/ ..... or maybe i will ;)

Posted by Xceptional Jul 15th 2007

I agree it is fake...... why would both men "appear from nowhere" and have their wands pointing at each other and then the other men asking for news? It makes you think this is rite after Snape apprates after the last battle in HBP however where is Malfoy? and why would the other men ask for news? Its defiantly fake!

Posted by nataliexkathryne Jul 15th 2007

interesting outtake. but it doesn't strike me as authentic. suppose we'll all find out in a few days wont we?

Posted by placebowiz Jul 15th 2007

fake...I need a drink!...can't wait (come on, come on!; cartman style)

Posted by Owl_Poster Jul 15th 2007

I really shouldn't read this and I won't...........I want it all to be completely perfect when I open that book up in 5 days time!

Posted by tristero07 Jul 15th 2007

Wait, I found two Chapter Names lists. One involving scans (The Dark Lord Ascending one). Those names sound more fake to me, but there's also scans and pictures. They also sound boring. Anybody know about this?

Posted by hallowsaint Jul 15th 2007

nobody follow the link to that website claiming that they know what happens in the 7th book cause it's totally fake....first off how would this person have gotten his hands on one of the books and second the writing style is totally bogus it's nothing like JO's and third at first it says that Ron dies and then later it says that Ron and Hermione get married and live happily ever after and have a child which of course couldnt happen if Ron was dead...........Does anybody hear the word FAKE

Posted by Lord_Godric Jul 15th 2007

i don't think this should be on mugglenet.

Posted by JonathanMalfoy Jul 15th 2007

OK. I still dont know if its fake or not. And by the way, there is a hint of british in it. It says "quite". Pretty british word. lol ok

Posted by ASnidget Jul 15th 2007

Snape doesn't talk like that, so I'm not convinced that it's authentic at all.

Posted by Thecharmed153 Jul 15th 2007

The end approcheses and I can't help but feel sad and happy at the same time. I'm happy cuz I really want to read the book but I'm sad cuz its the end. I remember when I first spotted the book. Was 10 and hated reading but had 2 read a book for school so I lpoked around and there I was a book called harry potter I had my dad buy it and wheni got home I opened it and began reading and couldn't stop. Now look at me a full hearty fan who has grown up with the books. Its been 6 years since that day at the book store and I now reality hits me there will be no more hqarry potter books but I know that I like most fans will not ler die harry potter will live forever in our minds and heats and I know we'll all read them over and over again because like a young ten year girl told her father about 6 years ago I just can't but it down I love this harry potter book

Posted by RHodgson Jul 15th 2007

I totally agree with the person posted above me she starts story's so you don't have to read the ones before to know what has happened.

Posted by severine7 Jul 15th 2007

How dim can you seriously be?? I can't believe someone said this would 'prove' Snape was evil; obviously if he is good he has to PRETEND to be on Voldemort's side. Haven't you even read the previous books?

Posted by jklatham Jul 15th 2007

AHHHH!!! drikgreen, those chapter scans look to real!!!! they can't be fake... Unless ur super good at photoshop... or unless that whole DH thing being released early is true. *gouges out eyes* HAHAHAHA Now i can't read spoliers!!!! And i'm gunna join whatsername276 in the cave!

Posted by fairose Jul 15th 2007

i want the book right now!!!

Posted by xdumbledoresarmyx Jul 15th 2007

nope nope nope, not gonna read it - fake or not, i will not succumb!

Posted by Pla303 Jul 15th 2007

I seriously doubt the authenticity of this. This opening was sort of a sputtering start. Jo's writing stype is flowy not full of jerky action...

Posted by Junigatsu Jul 15th 2007

This is a little drab for Jo... I don't think it's real. If it turns out to be real, no offense Jo... but it didn't flow as well as the rest of her writing.

Posted by BRiANNAP Jul 15th 2007

it better be fake or jk is losing her style

Posted by Hilere Jul 15th 2007

Hey ayumidah I had a dream that mugglenet posted spoilers last night too! What strage coincidence! It was actually quite a distressing dream.

Posted by hallowsaint Jul 15th 2007

plus on that website it says that Snape was in it for himself on whose side he should stay on and then Voldemort supposedly killed him when he found out..........but later on on the same flippin site it says that Snape's the headmaster of Hogwarts and that he saved Harry's life.......but it never said Minerva died and of course she would still be the Headmistress if she was alive..........so so so so so FAKE!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Lord_Godric Jul 15th 2007

way to avoid the spoilers warning gagandeep, way to spoil it.

Posted by severine7 Jul 15th 2007

Posted by JonathanMalfoy Jul 15th 2007
