The Guardian reveals opening of Deathly Hallows?
The Guardian reveals opening of Deathly Hallows? With extreme caution for lack of authenticity, we bring you this article from The Guardian's online website. It holds, what they say, is the opening to Deathly Hallows dated October 23rd, 2006.

According to their site, this small portion can be seen in video from the upcoming JK Rowling documentary we told you about a few days ago.

We've posted it in the black area below in case it is removed from The Guardian's website. Highlight in between the arrows if you wish to read.

-->'Chapter One. The Dark Lord Ascending. The two men appeared out of nowhere, a few yards apart in the narrow, moonlit lane. For a second they stood quite still, wands pointing at each other's chests: then, recognising each other, they stowed their wands beneath their cloaks and set off, side by side, in the same direction.

"News?", asked the taller of the two.

"The best," replied Snape.'
<--

Please remember that it is still unknown as to whether or not this is real. Interesting, nonetheless. Thanks to everyone who e-mailed with the tip!

Emily's edit: I emailed Andrew saying I didn't think the excerpt was real. Here's why: There is a mixture of British/English grammar - the British spelling of "recognise" and the American use of "a few yards." There are also odd punctuation errors - a colon after "chest" and then ?", when only a question mark before the quotation mark would be used. Would Jo really make these errors? We'll find out soon.

I am reading the leaked 495 pages of the book right now. In the pics, the intro is the same, except it says "Severus Snape" instead of just "Snape." The taller guy is someone nemed Yaxley and they are going to Lucius Malfoy's house where the other death eaters are, and Voldemort. Someone dies in that chapter, and later in chapter 4. Im still on four right now. Ahh-someone else just died

Posted by harry_p_7 Jul 16th 2007

darn the thing that this one guy posted that you had to download, it wasnt the whole 467 pages just like maybe 20 or so are real!!! i read a coupl of pages and i dont think im spoiling for myself it just makes me want it all!! yet it did seem a bit fishy even though it looks real.... hmm WELL JUST FIND OUT ON JULY 21. FRIDAY, 12:01 AM

Posted by HermywhereHagger Jul 16th 2007

This does not sound legit at all. Strange grammer, mixed American and English phrasing. Plus, she would never say "replied Snape" in the opening chapter. She always introduces charaters even if we already know who they are. Either way, I have no will power and will read anything as whitnessed by this comment.

Posted by lotr_girl10107 Jul 16th 2007

Let me just say a couple of things! please nobody get offended! first of all, those of you who have read the so called "spoiler pages" should all be ashamed of yourselves. although i contemplated going to the pages, i a dedicated harry potter fan did not! these would be FAKE there is no way that they are real! there would be huge lawsuits and ppl would be on the lookout for this kind of thing!!! personally even though i cannot wait to read the book! i can wait! because it is the last harry potter book!!!!!! so get a grip on yourselves!!!!

Posted by scilmeara Jul 16th 2007

I vote fake, it isn't very good writing and as we all know J.K. Rowling is one of the best writers in existence, this style just seems too simplistic. Ha, now watch as I get the book and this really is the beginning and I just insulted her writing, wouldn't that be lovely.

Posted by Daleboy Jul 16th 2007

lotr_girl10107 & scilmeara how can you call 400+ pages fake??? And dont rebut with the whole photo shop thing. NOT 400+ Pages, a dedication, a poem that was rumoured. are yous that involved that you cant see whats black and whats white? whats fake and what clearly REAL?

Posted by Just_Cuz Jul 16th 2007

495 pgs. apparently some think are "fake" and its a book... theres bound to be mistakes, there have been in previous HP books...

Posted by ladykrystyna Jul 16th 2007

It sounds like to me that some of you are saying its fake just to make yourselves feel better about it and to help you not want to read it. Check my posted comment on previous page - LAST TIME OUT SOMEONE PUT THE CHAPTER TITLES IN THE COMMENT SECTION JUST DAYS BEFORE! I thought they were fake, but they turned out to be true. Luckily, the titles themselves didn't spoil too much (I already figured that Dumbledore was going to die - that's what you get for being a Star Wars fan!) - I certainly did not know HOW he was going to die. Anyway, we all should just calm down. It is only 4 days away (a little sooner for those of you who are not in the Pacific time zone!) - RELAX, it's coming!

Posted by Daleboy Jul 16th 2007

Ladykrystna: It sounds like to me that some of you are saying its fake just to make yourselves feel better about it and to help you not want to read it. thats exactly it !!! Thats the best way to sum all this up

Posted by JJ171539 Jul 16th 2007

How many times do I have to tell you guys that these chapter titles are real. Why can't you guys live with that fact are you people stupid? They are real Did any of you even read the post I made on the previous page about the links that prove that these are the real chapter titles. Those two links actually show a person hand on the exact copy of the book and they are turning the pages. When the pages are being turned you see all the chapter titles and after the 36 th chapter it says THE EPILOGUE. It even lists all the people JKR dedicated the book to. You idiots seriously need to stop saying the opening paragraph doesn't sound like something JKR would right. That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. It is one paragraph you can't say what JKR would or wouldn't do from one paragrah. Anyway one last time I will post the two links since some of you are so stubborn and don't listen to the things people write http://rapidshar e.com/files/43233344/Cap1 -5.zip http://rapidshare .com/files/43235855/Cap5- 10.zip

Posted by harry_p_7 Jul 16th 2007

ya i think ur right. i no it must be real but i dont want to read it!! lol the only ones i rad were the first few pages andwhen it goes to the trio the last page of that where it read the warrior fallen sumthing like tat

Posted by JJ171539 Jul 16th 2007

If I keep hearing people say that no way these are real without even looking at the links then I will post a couple of excerpts from some of the chapters and I would love to hear everyone yell at me and get mad. They would deserve it for not listening to me in the first place. The fact that the majority of you guys think it is fake is completely pathetic and sad. I remember 2 years ago when someone release the chapter title "Excess of Phlegm" and I thought it was fake. I was completely wrong. You guys have been doing this since OOtp whenever several days before the book is released and someone posts spoilers about who dies and chapter titles you guys always say they are wrong. But they have always been right so why would this time be any different.

Posted by SlytherinForever Jul 16th 2007

Let them believe what they want.. I read the first 75 pages.Awesome book so far. The epilogue sucked but the beginning is awesome.

Posted by JJ171539 Jul 16th 2007

By the way to the stupid prats who said that it only has 759 pages. hello people the last chapter doesn't start at 784 pages it ends at 784 pages. Just thought I had to tell you since some of you are too slow.

Posted by Neurons Jul 16th 2007

I think its a sham!!!!!!

Posted by xLoony_Luna Jul 16th 2007

c'mon guys we'll find out in 4 days!!! stop getting all worked up about it being fake or real or whatever. i personally think that it is not Jo's writing style.

Posted by bringmethehorizon Jul 16th 2007

For every retarded you still hasn't gotten it through their fu.cking head... RECOGNIZING IS SPELT DIFFERANTLY IN THE UK. THEY DO USE YARDS.. AND IT DOES SAY SEVERUS SNAPE NO JUST SNAPE... NOW SHUT THE F.UCK UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Xceptional Jul 16th 2007

WHERE CAN YOU DOWNLOAD THE REST OF THE BOOK??? I GOT THE FIRST HALF WHERES THE LINK TO THE OTHER HALF??

Posted by bringmethehorizon Jul 16th 2007

*retard

Posted by amandafaye81 Jul 16th 2007

Well if they are real someone is going to have a very big lawsuit on their hands..........poeple with respect for the book and the author wold not think twice about not looking at anything that could possibly be the ending of the greatest series ever written I have patience to wait until Saturday when I have the book I bought and paid for to know I am spending my time reading the REAL BOOK!

Posted by Xceptional Jul 16th 2007

? its the real deal !!!!! is the other half online yet?

Posted by SyQo Jul 16th 2007

All of the accusations regarding authenticity can stop now. The zip files posted by numerous people are as legitimate as you could possibly hope for. With this in mind, I do not post this link to spoil the book for those that don't want it spoiled. Instead, I've "Webalized" the aforementioned zip file so that those who want to read it but are wary about downloading the file can enjoy the first 10 chapters of Deathly Hallows. Again, if you do not want to read the first 10 chapters of the seventh book in Rowling's excellent series, do not continue to the link below. The authenticity of this pictures is very hard to dispute; the hand placement is different in every image, the book changes position constantly, and it is -- as a whole -- quite obviously the real thing. I will admit, the way in which Rowling began this one is slightly different than the rest of the novels, as are the chapter titles which are -- at least in my opinion -- slightly short of par. Anyhow, the link is below. For those who do read it, enjoy; it really is quite good... |||earlyhallows . mypressonline . com|||

Posted by Xceptional Jul 16th 2007

^^ u cant post links on Mugglenet comments. Do you know where u can find the pgs after 495 the rest of the book?? Is it illegal to download it?

Posted by jeannie22 Jul 16th 2007

ummm... totally fake. It's not Jo's style at all.

Posted by JJ171539 Jul 16th 2007

THe people who are looking for the other half for some very strange reason a forum I went to deleted the topic where the person posted the chapter lists and there excerpts. I only have chapters 1-10 from the book. I suggest looking on limewire or something for the rest of the book. Also once again to the idiots who can't get it through their skulls that these are real I will post the links again http://rapidshar e.com/files/43233344/Cap1 -5.zip http://rapidshare.com/f iles/43235855/Cap5-10.zip

Posted by JJ171539 Jul 16th 2007

jeannie it is real dumbass didn't u read the previous posts I made that completely proved that this is real. What you were too lazy to click on the links so you just decided to jump on the bangwagon and agree with everyone that the this is fake just because of one paragraph. I can list 20 opening paragraphs from previous books that are not as bad as the one that was just shown on the first page.

Posted by SyQo Jul 16th 2007

Logic follows that if you cannot find a way to prove the image wrong, it must be a real image; so, I ask anybody who denies that these are real to spot an inconsistency in the images on Early Hallows...

Posted by julieannlovesjo Jul 16th 2007

please no one yell at me, i didn't read all 1,527 comments. i don't think this is real. what with all the security surrounding book 7, i highly doubt that this would be leaked. plus, isn't the guardian a tabloid? we're harry potter fans, goodness sake. we're smarter than that!

Posted by SyQo Jul 16th 2007

Security? You think the security is tight? Bah! I believe the news post is ninth down on the main page. In the case of no-name libraries (which happens to be the majority of libraries in existence, actually), there are given the books and told not to open them. How secure is that, honestly? We must be realistic here...

Posted by Xceptional Jul 16th 2007

its real unfortuantely........ i am harry potter fan not a huge one but still anyways....... disappointed

Posted by SyQo Jul 16th 2007

Why be disappointed? The only thing that comes from this is giving yourself the pleasure of shortening the waiting time to nill...

Posted by julieannlovesjo Jul 16th 2007

where's the fun without the ridiculous costumes and clocks that "must be broken, since it should DEFINITELY be midnight by now"?

Posted by jeering_drip Jul 16th 2007

It's fake. JK. Rowling does not write like that. Anyone who has read the books would know. this link--->http://img2.fre eimagehosting.net/image.p hp?1d117ceaa5.jpg shows how easy it is to create the "pictures" of the harry potter books. (remember to delete the spaces)

Posted by JJ171539 Jul 16th 2007

It is real are you sure you downloading the files I posted like 5 times already. Trust me if you download both of them you will see that they are real. Why would there be a picture of the book with someone's hand on it and everything that is normally in the books be shown.

Posted by SyQo Jul 16th 2007

jeering_drip, I'm glad to see you haven't taken the time to even visit any of the links supplied here. Not a single page at Early Hallows (earlyhallows . mypressonline . com) looks anything like that...

Posted by julieannlovesjo Jul 16th 2007

wow, are they paying you guys to promote their site? lol

Posted by SlytherinForever Jul 16th 2007

darn people. Why feel guilty? I already paid for my book. I'm only reading it earlier because I was curious and it's not spoiling my enjoyment of it. For those who don't want spoilers, don't click on the links..simple as that. There's no need to discuss if the pages are real. You would have to be INSANE to fake over 500 pages of reading material, with each page at a different angle, with text. Be intelligent: the pages are real. I read a few chapters already (easier on a laptop, you can angle the screen to read the text better. The book is awesome. I will enjoy flipping through its physical pages when I get it Saturday.

Posted by SyQo Jul 16th 2007

It happens to be mine, funny enough, and paying myself seems rather trivial, so my answer to that is no. It's actually providing a service, when you think about it. Honestly, though, have you even visited the site?

Posted by Xceptional Jul 16th 2007

ok its not fair that others got to read it and they can spoil it for others................... .... and those going to Midnight parties i would advise you DO NOT cause certain people could and probably ruin it for you guys by shouting out spoilers! so personally i dont blame anybody and i am NOT DISAPPOINTED AT ALL THAT I GOT TO READ SOME OF THE BOOK EARLY! (is it illegal?? can someone let me know) I am STILL GOING TO BUY THE BOOK and still going to probably re-read it

Posted by julieannlovesjo Jul 16th 2007

no, haven't. i'm waiting for the 21st, the legal way.

Posted by SyQo Jul 16th 2007

How, then, d'you justify your criticisms?

Posted by Xceptional Jul 16th 2007

what website??

Posted by julieannlovesjo Jul 16th 2007

i'm sorry if you felt i was criticising, i never intended to. we're all harry potter freaks, we have to stick together! :)

Posted by SyQo Jul 16th 2007

Early Hallows (earlyhallows . mypressonline . com), a site that makes the first ten chapters available for immediate viewing rather than downloading...

Posted by loby Jul 16th 2007

Well .... I still see how this could all have been faked ~ with an awful lot of skill and effort, mind you ~ but it IS possible. I've read about all that I intend to, trying to catch all of the words on those pictures is putting my eyes out. I don't feel terribly guilty because I have my copy of the book reserved for me at my local bookstore that I will still most definetly be purchasing and I have absolutely no intention of shouting out any of the (possibly purloined) knowledge that I've gained. If it turns out that this IS for real, then I'll enjoy leisurely turning the physial pages and savouring the tale this weekend; if it's a fake ~ then after I enjoy the REAL book, I'm going looking for the author of this mock-up and read the rest of their fic, because to be honest it's rather good (IMHO). I love HP and while I should probably have qualms over reading what I have (technically, I imagine it's akin to recieving stolen goods), I can't bring myself to be very sorry. Life, as they say, is short ....

Posted by JJ171539 Jul 16th 2007

Hey everybody in case you haven't noticed at the top of the page there is a messagae from mugglenet saying that we can post details and comments about what actually happens in the book. So don't get mad at me because I am about to post what happens in the first 10 chapters. So before you read on I have the permission of mugglenet to post the imformation. Okay here goes the things the events that take place in chapters 1 to 10 1. In the first chapter "The Dark Lord Ascends" Voldemort and the death eaters are at a meeting at the malfoy's house(or bellatrix's don't remember) and on the last page of the chapter we see the old muggle studies teacher and lv uses avada kedvra on her. 2. Earlier in that chapter Lv for reasons takes lucius's wand from him 3. Harry's owl hedwig dies very early in the book so does mad eye moody(at least the trio thinks that he is dead). 4.George Weasley loses his ear while trying to escape from Death Eaters 5. At the end of the chapter "The Wedding" Kingsley Shacklebolt sends his lynx patronus and the patronus says in his deep slow voice "The Ministry has fallen" Scrimgeour is dead 6. While hiding out at Grimmauld place because the trio thinks death eaters have to do with his death they come across a sign outside regulus's bedroom The sign says don't enter and when they go in the finally find out that he is RAB 7. Kreacher is summoned by harry and he tells harry that dung stole the locket, the photos of bella and cissy, and lots of other things. Well that is all I will say for now people in case you are interested you can keep asking me what you would like to hear.

Posted by starsgirl97 Jul 16th 2007

I can confirm that this is the exact opening because of pictures of the first 494 pages I have found on a Harry Potter search in a program I use to file share. And because I don't want to stare at a screen and read the book, I'm waiting until Saturday morning, I only skimmed the first 2 pages and saw the character in question is a guy with a name like Yarbly and they are going to the Malfoy's.

Posted by JJ171539 Jul 16th 2007

That death eater's name is yaxley. I think he was one of the ones on the astronomy tower. All we know is that he wasn't the "big blond".

Posted by dumbledoreISdead Jul 16th 2007

ok so this supposed "epilouge" is that fake? im convinced that the 495 pages are all real, however, i hope the epilouge is fake- i havnt read any of it, but a lot of people on these comments have said what happens in the 6page "epilouge" and it sounds extremly cheesy and can someone confirm that the 495 pages that guy posted conflicts with the information in the "epilouge"? i heard it does , however i have read neither so i wouldnt know i dont want to know details i just want to know if anyone can tell me that it there is conflicting info from what i believe to be the actual first 495 pages of the book and what i believe to be the fake "epilouge"
