The Guardian reveals opening of Deathly Hallows?
The Guardian reveals opening of Deathly Hallows? With extreme caution for lack of authenticity, we bring you this article from The Guardian's online website. It holds, what they say, is the opening to Deathly Hallows dated October 23rd, 2006.

According to their site, this small portion can be seen in video from the upcoming JK Rowling documentary we told you about a few days ago.

We've posted it in the black area below in case it is removed from The Guardian's website. Highlight in between the arrows if you wish to read.

-->'Chapter One. The Dark Lord Ascending. The two men appeared out of nowhere, a few yards apart in the narrow, moonlit lane. For a second they stood quite still, wands pointing at each other's chests: then, recognising each other, they stowed their wands beneath their cloaks and set off, side by side, in the same direction.

"News?", asked the taller of the two.

"The best," replied Snape.'
<--

Please remember that it is still unknown as to whether or not this is real. Interesting, nonetheless. Thanks to everyone who e-mailed with the tip!

Emily's edit: I emailed Andrew saying I didn't think the excerpt was real. Here's why: There is a mixture of British/English grammar - the British spelling of "recognise" and the American use of "a few yards." There are also odd punctuation errors - a colon after "chest" and then ?", when only a question mark before the quotation mark would be used. Would Jo really make these errors? We'll find out soon.

rob15: I KNEW IT!!!!!

Posted by lotte26 Jul 15th 2007

Fake, Fake Fake.... Aw is it just me or is anyone feeling thoroughly depressed and gutted that its only 5 days 17 hours and 7 mins to go? *Howls* I don't want it to end... soo bad... i can't beleive it.... hmmmm anyways JK rowlings style isn't like that she describes alot more and i cant think of her saying "snape replied" she would more likely say "snape said" or "said snape"...

Posted by hallowsaint Jul 15th 2007

i don't understand why all of these flippin people keep putting links to flippin spoilers on here and then after they put it they have the nerve to say don't go to it

Posted by jklatham Jul 15th 2007

LOL Rob! Ok heres the picture the Narnia one =] Dw everyone no spoliers here: http://i12.photobucket.co m/albums/a204/jklatham/Al bum%202/TheVeil.gif & Go to this link for more wierd Harry Potter Icons: http://www.freewebs.com/j klatham/fUnNyHpPiCs.htm

fliippin is my middle name....or was it danger?....no, that was yesterday

Posted by magical_mel Jul 15th 2007

That sounds so fake. JK rowling is a better writer than that. No way is that real.

Posted by harrypotterprincess08 Jul 15th 2007

Ok, i'm weak. I read it. I literally highlighted it word by word trying to convince myself to stop. I have come to the conclusion that this is no more information then we normally get. Normally we have chapter titles or something so we NEEDED this. I hope that we get it authenticated one way or another. It would be cool to know if we can trust it or not. I do wonder who the taller man is. I wish you all "the best" in our anticipation.

Posted by PaintedBlack Jul 15th 2007

Oh and P.S. when Jo introduces a character in any chapter she would never use their name like that. It wouldn't just be, "replied Snape" she would most certainly describe the character first and then say "replied the second of the two men, who went by the name of Severus Snape" or something like that. Glance over how Bellatrix and Narcissa are introduced in Spinner's End!

Posted by Yoyosama Jul 15th 2007

In my opinion I think it's real. Ahhh now I really really REALLY want to read the book.... Even more than I did before I read this, and then I didn't think it was possible to want to read it more.

Posted by hallowsaint Jul 15th 2007

hey have you noticed that half of the spoiler websites have different chapter titles and that the page numbers for the end of the book are all wrong

Posted by iggyboi Jul 15th 2007

I dunno, I really doubt this thing is real. I don't think she would have revealed and important character talking that quickly. She's more subtle than that in the beginning. Although I could be wrong. But she usually describes the character for a bit and then we find out who it is after guessing and figuring out who it is. But hey, I hope it is real JUST to know the title of the first chapter. We never got ANY info on the book as in Chapter Titles and stuff.

Posted by Ravleen Jul 15th 2007

I happened to be at a computer where something on yoru site doesn't properly work, and there were NO SPOILER TAGS. So I saw it without wanting to and that sucks. I thought I could trust mugglenet, but I'm definitely sticking to leaky from now on. Please save other people grief and remove the post!

Posted by PerriHaughter Jul 15th 2007

HEY GUYS!!? Forget spoilers listen to this Indian and Chinese guy argue http://video.goo gle.com/videoplay?docid=- 5759891719796904525&q=por k+prank+call&total=9&star t=0&num=10&so=0&type=sear ch&plindex=0 way more insight into the books if you ask me.

Posted by rob15 Jul 15th 2007

sounds like an interesting begginning to a story she, i mean the imposters, brainwashers, faggots, spoilers, bit- probablly wrote it while eating cheesecake with a bat dropping sandwich

Posted by AnnOminous Jul 15th 2007

I hope we get confirmation on whether this is real or not soon. =O

Posted by xbecause_of_youx Jul 15th 2007

that sounds so fake it is ridiculous. if it is part of the book id be highly disapointed. its really, really, poorly written if i do say so myself

Posted by The_Oddball Jul 15th 2007

I hope this is not true. I really hope this is not true! I want Snape to be good! SNAPE IS GOOD!! Ahh I want the book NOW!! Man has a Saturday ever come slower?? AHHH Book 7!!

Posted by dracosfling Jul 15th 2007

that's so frakin awesome! I suppose we'll see if it's real of fakw in about 6 days! It doesn't seem like her writing style, that much, but you know, people's style change. Maybe Jo's did!? That'd be kinda kreepy... Tho it's already going to be hard, cause I'm used to fanfic writing style and plotlines. Ya know, like, evil dumble's, and "Harry goes to Azkaban"... Anyway, I can't wait!

Posted by zephystephy Jul 15th 2007

I really don't think that this is the real begining. Jo usually introduces the characters as if we don't know them yet, so she wouldn't just start off refering to him as "Snape". Just my thought.

Posted by jklatham Jul 15th 2007

This whole topic makes me crack up! lol! I have been here since the thing was posted, & i should be packing my suitcase!!! Great advice: Until the the book is released, cut your self from all things Harry Potter news related if you don't want spoliers!

Posted by Ravleen Jul 15th 2007

I thought Mugglenet would only post official spoilers, not rumors or passages that leaked in articles. Why? :( I really wish I hadn't seen this. If anyone knows of any mind-erasing techniques to make yourself forget something, do tell me. ;( ha

Posted by jordyn Jul 15th 2007

BAHHH! EXCITEMENT! this is the perfect little tatste! doesnt really give anything away just gets your mind going... and too Ravleen I happened to be at a computer where something on yoru site doesn't properly work, and there were NO SPOILER TAGS. So I saw it without wanting to and that sucks. I thought I could trust mugglenet, but I'm definitely sticking to leaky from now on. Please save other people grief and remove the post! c'mon the second you saw the headline you knew what it was and if you scrolled down thinking it would be blocked then when you saw that it wasnt you could close your eyes in a second without reading it YOU SPOILED YOURSELF you chose to read the paragraph no one forced you so be nice :D

Posted by rob15 Jul 15th 2007

WHILE YOU WAIT FOR CONFIRMATION, WATCH THIS, ITS HILARIOUS: http://www.youtube.com/wa tch?v=xnF7awwu3RQ

Posted by bringmethehorizon Jul 15th 2007

Snape doesn't need to be introduced! Everyone already knows who he is.. I like this starting right where if left off...

Posted by DO2the3JEW Jul 15th 2007

deeeeeeeeeeeep breath. oh dang. less than a week and well know for sure

Posted by Junigatsu Jul 15th 2007

Fanfics.. that makes me think.. maybe this is part of someone's fanfic that The Guardian posted. If it is, it's a very poorly written one. I'm not into fanfic anyway.. I prefer to keep 100% canon.

Posted by fatsbkc Jul 15th 2007

wow. i kinda believe this. seems plausible. just got to wait and see i guess.

Posted by iggyboi Jul 15th 2007

UMMM . . . it does say in the very beginning of the article. With extreme caution for lack of authenticity. Why complain that it may not be dun dun dun "Authentic"

Posted by kforkatherine Jul 15th 2007

I read the last word. Something about Snape. I would have *never* guessed.

Posted by Jimmer Jul 15th 2007

After spending the last 7 years with Harry Potter(and I know a lot of you have spent longer) I must say I'm not entirely sure if this is authentic. At first read it does seem like Jo's style-but then I see the ' The two men appeared out of nowhere, a few yards apart in the narrow, moonlit lane. For a second they stood quite still, wands pointing at each other's chests: then, recognising each other,' and I really cannot say whether this is Jo's style or not-but the stowing away of the wands definitely seem like her!!!! Well-we'll either have to wait for confirmation on this or the 21st-personally, I'd prefer the 21st. But it wouldn't be the first time the beginning of the book has been released prepublication-but that was done by her publishers.

Posted by whatsername276 Jul 15th 2007

jklatham- I'm gonna side with you on this one

Posted by jklatham Jul 15th 2007

Ravleen I suggest visiting a hypnoses professional for memory removing.

Posted by James_Padfoot Jul 15th 2007

ATTENTION: THIS IS GENUINE. LET'S JUST SAY A FRIEND OF A FRIEND OF A FRIEND WHO HAS AUTHORITY TO CONFIRM THIS HAS CONFIRMED IT. THE FIRST CHAPTER IS THE DARK LORD ASCENDING AND IS FOLLOWED BY 37 OTHER CHAPTERS PLUS 30 SOMETHING PAGES OF EPILOGUE. THAT'S ABOUT THE SPOILERS FOR THIS BOOK. .. This is the first time actual text has been released so I'm a bit surprised. I thought chapter titles was as far as it would go. I'm not going to be irresponsible and unveil further chapter titles though, tho for most part the are ambigious and very, very, very interesting. But don't fret, JUST 5 more days to go!

Posted by Ravleen Jul 15th 2007

jordyn: actually, i was just browsing, didn't see the headline so i read it, for a split second not realizing what it was, and then it dawned on me and i quickly looked away but i had gotten the gist of it. partly my fault, i'm not saying that, but the thing is, i was udner the impression that mugglenet would not post non-official spoilers. i have limited the sites iwould visit this week and having used this site for five years, trusted it not to post anything, but it did, against the policy i thought it posted. oh well. if its true it doesn't confirm snape as a baddie or anything, the "other person" is obviously a DE and he would have to keep his cover anyway.

Posted by muggleprefect Jul 15th 2007

aw c umon u guys, its only 5 days to go...*sob* I DONT WANT IT TO END! *sobsob* ...*wont read*.. i cant help msyelf..i realy want to highlight it...dam..*must resist temptation*

Posted by tristero07 Jul 15th 2007

Eh, if anybody saw the chapter title spoilers without wanting to, I have reason to believe they're fake. It has nothing to do with the names, but there's no title page after the table of contents like there usually is. The names do sound bad, now that I mentioned it. Although they're so random that it would be weird for someone to think it up alone... Now I really can't wait for the book. Stupid ambiguous spoilers, why can't anything be obviously real or fake?

Posted by qazplm91 Jul 15th 2007

Ummmmmmmmm....something just tells me that this just isn't real. I dunno, it just dosent' seem like J.K. would write this way. Even though is kinda is her style i just immidiatly thought, "nope, not Joe". Somethin just didn't feel right about the sentences of this.

Posted by Jimmer Jul 15th 2007

I'd hate to be one of the people who think this is fake and have the ordasity to insult it. What if it is real(I don't know either way)and you're insulting Jo-what would you do? And where are all these chapter titles I'm hearing about?

Posted by harrypotterlover9105 Jul 15th 2007

ok wtf i dont want to read any spoilers. they suck and its the last book, like take that shhh off!!!! ~mary~

Posted by harry_p_7 Jul 15th 2007

i dont care if its real ORNOT! it makes me excited!! imagine people... this time next week some of us will be at the devastating end of harry potter and the deathly hallows..... OMFG I CANNOT WAIT I WANT IT NOW!

Posted by Loutre Jul 15th 2007

There's only like 5 pages of Epilogue, I don't know what James_Padfoot is talking about. I saw the entire thing in an unavoidable form, along with basically every major and minor spoiler. Sadface

Posted by James_Padfoot Jul 15th 2007

Why why why why why why why did I have to highlight it? It's driving me batty. Oh my god. I am going to keep away from the internet. Starting like now >_

Posted by Rineesh Jul 15th 2007

This is fake. IT HAS TO BE FAKE! DON'T DO THIS MUGGLENET!!!! anyway...doesnt sound like JKR to me. *calm down its just fake, just a fake...*

Posted by Ravleen Jul 15th 2007

LOUTRE: If I take your comment means you've seen/read the book (?), can you confirm/deny this "spoiler"? Is this really the opening?

Posted by Kalikala Jul 15th 2007

The writing style doesn't sound like JKR at all to me, especially as an opening chapter.

Posted by starslightskies Jul 15th 2007

it doesn't sound like something JK Rowling would write to me, but i don't know. it still makes me want to read it SO bad! :[

Posted by rob15 Jul 15th 2007

WHILE YOU WAIT FOR CONFIRMATION, WATCH THIS, ITS HILARIOUS: http://www.youtube.com/wa tch?v=xnF7awwu3RQ

Posted by Jimmer Jul 15th 2007

OK-I don't get it why everyone's making a big deal out of this! It's just the beginning and it doesn't tell us ANYTHING!!!! I wouldn't mind if I knew the beginning of the book or a few chapter titles-but Jo did say she doesn't want anything released about this book.....

Posted by Xceptional Jul 15th 2007

wow good job mugglenet u ruined the book for me!

Posted by SesNeith Jul 15th 2007

Seems a bit... I dunno, it doesn't seem quite in JKRowling's style.
